Early last Sunday morning—three days before Christmas and 13 days after Daniel Penny’s acquittal—an infernal convergence of insane public policy and an unhinged perpetrator led to an eyeball-peelingly horrific spectacle on a Brooklyn subway car. Wikipedia has already named it the “2024 New York City Subway Immolation.”
Ample footage of the event exists—some from surveillance cameras inside the train car, some from police bodycams, and much of it recorded by gawkers who stood and filmed as a woman slowly roasted to death.
At a press conference later on Sunday, NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch called it “one of the most depraved crimes one person could possibly commit against another human being”: (more…)
