    Lauren Oyler’s Fake Accounts

    1,603 words

    Lauren Oyler
    Fake Accounts: A Novel
    New York: Catapult, 2021

Fake Accounts is a story about a standard neoliberal girl who discovers that her boyfriend secretly runs a conspiracy theory page on Instagram shortly before his death in a bicycle accident. The primary reason I decided to review this novel was the assumption that many writers and thinkers on the Dissident Right publish their thoughts under a nom de guerre or, at a minimum, keep the full breadth of their views from friends and family; obviously out of necessity. True Romance:
Why Everyone Thinks Sicilians are Black

Don Coccotti (Christopher Walken) confronts Clifford Worley (Dennis Hopper) in True Romance.

    1,193 words

A white friend of mine has curly hair. This eight-word sentence shouldn’t be too shocking, and her appearance is certainly nothing jarring when seen in public. In the era of limitless promotion of miscegenation and glorification of all things black, however, my friend is seemingly not allowed to be plain old white in the eyes of the average adherent to our oligarchy’s race-doctrine. “What are you?” is a question she’s casually received in reference to her race. When she flatly responds that she’s white, a typical retort is something along the lines of, “Oh, you look so ethnic,” and her curly hair is almost always referenced. (more…)

    Wyndham Lewis’ Tarr

    1,834 words

Finally getting to Kerry Bolton’s Artist of the Right was an honest realization of how little I knew of the history of dissident, Right-wing art and literature. One of the artists I was most intrigued by was Wyndham Lewis, and particularly his first novel, Tarr. Though it was originally published in 1918 and later revised in 1928, what makes this piece of literature as timeless and as relevant as ever is its inclusion of not only a place – Paris –, but an entire ideology and way of life as a main character in the story. Zero HP Lovecraft’s “Key Performance Indicators”

    1,194 words

Though he has a dedicated fan base from Twitter, Zero HP Lovecraft’s (ZHPL) long-form writing allows us to experience his words beyond a mere 280 characters. This is not to suggest that the extreme short form doesn’t have its merits, but for those who need more, ZHPL’s stories have a profound delivery. (more…)

Dr. Seuss, Wartime Propaganda, & Cancel Culture

Theodor Seuss Geisel during his wartime service in the US Army.

    2,055 words

Though it’s been almost a year since our crazed oligarchs decided that Dr. Seuss is racist and several of his books need to disappear, aspects of his cancellation are worth reexamination. Though it pales in comparison to other absurd proclamations from our deranged ruling class — most recently, the Anti-Defamation League schizoiding on the definition of racism, and yet more adults having to apologize for saying bad words –, what makes the Seuss fiasco so hysterical and ironic is that he was one of the Left’s own. Mark Gullick’s Bestest Boys

You can buy Mark Gullick’s Bestest Boys here.

    864 words

Bestest Boys is Mark Gullick’s first novel, released in 2015. If you’ve ever spent any time in London, the book is a must-read. It’s clearly written with the city’s grit, history, and culture in mind. The protagonist, Mickey Glasspool, and his drinking gang seem to be the personification of the English metropolis.

Mickey is a London bar manager in his 40s. He’s a functioning alcoholic, and descriptions of his morning hangover cure of Tom Collins at 6 AM will make you want to vomit. (more…)

    Mark Gullick’s Cherub Valley

You can buy Mark Gullick’s Cherub Valley here.

    748 words

Before it was overshadowed by social media, click-bait, and online shopping, the internet provided the dawn of the twenty-first century with limitless potential. It’s worth noting that there was a dark side to it as well, and Mark Gullick’s Cherub Valley shows its readers the creepy underbelly of the “invisible world of information.”

The novel takes the genre of techno-dystopia to a whole new level and leads the reader down a rabbit hole they’d surely avoid in the real world. It’s descriptive without being dense with terminology, which is a common flub of science fiction and cyberpunk writers. (more…)

    Hari Kunzru’s Red Pill

    1,863 words

    Hari Kunzru
    Red Pill
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2020

Though its origins lie in the big-budget science fiction film The Matrix, the now-infamous term “red pill” has recently undergone a subconscious attempt by center-of-the-Overton-window content creators to reclaim it from its primary users: the internet-based Dissident Right. (more…)

    Hari Kunzru’s Gods Without Men

    1,448 words

This year marks the ten-year anniversary of the publication of Gods Without Men by Hari Kunzru; it was published by Vintage Books, which is a division of Random House. Though the novel was nothing earth-shattering in the mainstream literary world, it was well-received and considered “wise” by The New York Times Book Review. Discussing the output of a “Big 5” publisher and citing legacy reviewers like the one just referenced may be an eye-roll for Counter-Currents readers, but it’s worth noting that Kunzru is actually a great writer and storyteller, even in an era where the commercial book industry is scrambling to publish works by anyone with a name that sounds as non-white as Hari Kunzru, seemingly regardless of their talent. Hypernormalization in Hollywood

    2,416 words

I came across David Cronenberg’s Videodrome relatively late in my arc of movie-viewing enthusiasm. It went well past the high school-aged fascination with low-brow horror (the original Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street) or college-years serial killer obsession (American Psycho or any movie derived from Ed Gein mayhem). Outside Capitalism

    1,280 words

Critique of capitalism has a long history. Broadly beginning with Marx and Engels, capitalism’s critics have morphed over time as capital itself continues to evolve. However, regardless of the source of discontent — ranging from nineteenth-century Communists, to twentieth-century socialists, to twenty-first century black-pilled intellectuals — certain themes pervade; (more…)
