In light of the recent Dublin riots, I thought I would write something Irish-themed and settled on Troy Duffy’s The Boondock Saints, a cult Tarantino knockoff movie from 1999 with Irish-Catholic themes. In the process of researching this I discovered the documentary Overnight about the making of the film — which is actually a far more interesting movie in itself. You can watch it here.

I was surprised at how much I liked Disney’s live action Star Wars series Andor, so I watched the Mouse’s next Star Wars series, Ahsoka. It was a trudge across vast, dreary plains of pulp, nostalgia, and estrogen-sodden wokeness — punctuated with peaks of genuine magic and drama.

The character of Jedi apprentice Ahsoka Tano, an orange-skinned alien, was created by George Lucas and Dave Filoni and first introduced in the 2008 animated film The Clone Wars, which focused on her relationship with Anakin Skywalker. (more…)

The United States Army recently overturned the convictions of 110 black soldiers for offenses committed during a 1917 mutiny in Houston, Texas. The supposed reason? Racism, of course. I’ve recently become bogged down in several areas — working, writing, etc. — and only my continued inspiration from Napoleon the Great and the Counter-Currents community has kept up my spirits. No self-pity or fishing for sympathy here; these moods happen to us all, and in due course pass into other, better seasons of life. As I was lying awake thinking about things that crowd the brain during the least crowded hours of the night, my mind’s eye summoned an imaginary staircase. (more…)

Growing up in a suburban commuter colony of Canada’s federal capital in the 1980s was good, for the most part. The first house that I lived in was an attached garden home in a brand-new neighborhood. Houses were in rows of five or six units. Every unit had a modest, fenced backyard; our house featured a beautiful Russian olive tree out front as well.
