As usual, it starts with an anecdote — a “friend of a friend” kind of story. There was a guy who raised pigs. He wasn’t a professional pig farmer, but he raised some hogs on the side. He lived in a town with a large cakes and sweets company. So, to save on pig feed, he’d purchase the cakes and sweets unfit for human consumption and their byproducts from the factory. We live in a time of artificial hysteria over many things, including the supposed murders of innocent black criminals by white “racists.” But a much more serious problem is obesity. In 1960, less than 15% of Americans were obese. Today that number is 42%, with a full two-thirds overweight. This is not simply because of high rates of obesity among blacks or Hispanics; according to CDC data from 2017-2018, 42% of non-Hispanic whites are obese. A Vice article published on Tuesday has reignited the debate over whether racism (or “pathological bias,” to use the clinical term proposed by psychiatrists) should be considered a mental illness and included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. I have been on the Carnivore Diet for about six weeks now. In case you don’t know, this is the anti-vegan, all-meat diet. My task here is not to argue for or against the “white sharia” meme, but I must offer a brief outline of what that discussion was about before I begin.
