In a world that seems more nightmarish when I open my eyes every new dawn, the news stories that really rip my guts from my stomach and string them along a clothesline to dry are the ones about babies and toddlers overdosing from accidental exposure to fentanyl that their junkie parents had carelessly left within their reach. Muslim thugs, responding to rumors of a “far-right riot” that never materialized, beat a white man outside a Birmingham pub on Monday.

Right when I think that people couldn’t lie any more audaciously than they do, that the gaslighting couldn’t possibly get more migraine-inducing, and that maybe things aren’t quite as bad as they seem, along come the English media and government to remind me that George Orwell was an Englishman.

First, let’s all take a deep breath and center ourselves. The riots that kicked off last week in England were rooted in the fact that a nonwhite male stabbed three white girls, all under age 10, to death. (more…)

I soiled these pages last Thursday with news that Liverpool authorities had charged 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana with last Monday’s gruesome stabbing attack at a “children’s Taylor Swift-themed yoga and dance workshop” in the seaside town of Southport, England. Three white girls ranging in age from six to nine were killed. Several others, including two white adults, remain in critical condition. (more…)

As someone who covers breaking stories under deadline, this much I know to be true: News travels fast online, much of it untrue.

England has seen a spate of riots over the past couple days. The most unusual thing is that most of the rioters appear to be white. From what I can tell, many of them seem to have been causing a ruckus based on false information. From what I can sense, their rage is genuine and based on what appears to be a ruling class that is entirely hostile toward not only their interests, but their continued existence. (more…)

Nearly two weeks ago after surviving an attempt on his life, it appeared as if Donald Trump had sewn up November’s election.

Then, on Sunday night, Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed the cackling biracial knob-gobbler Kamala Harris as his replacement.

On Monday, Illinois State Police released bodycam footage of a white male officer shooting a mentally ill black woman dead in her home. The shooting had occurred back on July 6, but in politics, timing is everything. (more…)

I’m still cynical about the idea that it matters who’s president when it seems obvious that the country is like a terminal patient waiting to die. In fact, I’m cynical about the idea that it ever mattered who’s president, when it seems obvious that bankers have always run the country. (more…)

As we all commemorate National Watermelon Month and finalize plans to celebrate National Watermelon Day on August 3, it has come to my attention that many black people are terrified of eating watermelon in front of whites.

What a strange thing to fear. I’d think it’s better than being tied to a post and whipped for getting uppity with your slave master, but I’ve never been a black slave, so I wouldn’t know. (more…)

In the all-white neighborhood of my youth, the faraway people who are now known as “Hispanics” . . . or, more dubiously, as “Latinos” . . . or, unforgivably, as “Latinx” . . . were referred to with the catchall slur “Spics.”

It wasn’t until I reached my mid-teens and found cause to boldly venture into the City of Brotherly Love that I encountered any real-life Hispanics, who all seemed to be Puerto Rican. When I started driving a cab in Philly during my late teens and early 20s, it seemed as if that crumbled city’s most blighted areas were mostly inhabited by Puerto Ricans rather than blacks. (more…)
