In 2019 the Hollywood Reporter gathered together seven Hollywood executives regarded as being among the most powerful in the business for a roundtable discussion, which is pictured here (click to enlarge). From the left, they are Scott Stuber, head of original films for Netflix; then-Disney Co-Chair Alan Horn; Tom Rothman, “Chairperson” of Sony Pictures; Donna Langley, Chairwoman of Universal; the moderator; then-Warner Bros. Chairman Toby Emmerich; then-Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos; and Amazon Studio Chief Jennifer Salke. All of the executives are Jews except for Langley, although she attends events at the Simon Wiesenthal Center; and Gianopulos, who is Greek Orthodox, although he has been “honored” by the Center. Horn, Emmerich, and Gianopulos have since all been replaced by other Jews.
In 1996, while hosting the “Weekend Update” segment on Saturday Night Live, Norm Macdonald made the following comment:
“Earlier this week, actor Marlon Brando met with Jewish leaders to apologize for comments he made on Larry King Live — among them, that ‘Hollywood is run by Jews.’ The Jewish leaders accepted the actor’s apology and announced that Brando is now free to work again.”
Macdonald later explained that this was one of his all-time favorite “jokes” because all he did was report exactly what happened. What actually happened was funny enough without the need for any extra setup or embellished punchline. (more…)
