In the distant and ancient era we now call the “mid-2000s,” there arose a phenomenon we now call New Atheism. New Atheism was militant; its adherents not only rejected religion, but actively sought to expurgate it from society, usually by haranguing the religious online. Star Trek: Discovery (henceforth referred to by the fitting abbreviation STD) is the sixth Star Trek television series, and a direct prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series. The first season premiered in 2017, and the second premiered this January. The plot centers around the exploits of the USS Discovery amid a war between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets.

Memetic discourse is historically unique, but there is a striking similarity between Social Justice Warrior (SJW) discourse and the totalitarian discourse of past eras. Political rhetoric in totalitarian societies is narrow and circular; everything that is said is just a reiteration of what’s already been said. By now, most have at least heard the highlights of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, where they listened to testimonies and questioned Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, over allegations that he had attempted to rape her in 1982. The hearing lasted roughly nine hours and included some very dramatic moments. I watched most of it, but stopped around halfway through Kavanaugh’s time on the stand because the questions had become so repetitive, and it was clear no new information was going to come to light. Antifa in New York City have doxed a White Nationalist, and this one is quite a find: an Orthodox Jewish doctor working at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx by the name of Dov Bechhofer. Bechhofer’s father is an Orthodox rabbi.

A few days ago, I came across an article from reason.com entitled “Leaked Internal Memo Reveals the ACLU Is Wavering on Free Speech.” It decries something that most on the Dissident Right are already quite aware of: that the ACLU is a Leftist organization which is now struggling to integrate its pro-civil liberties, pro-First Amendment mission with an illiberal, social justice agenda.
