    Europe’s Eastern Shield

Sándor Wagner, The Self-Sacrifice of Titus Dugovics (1853), depicting a Hungarian Knight who prevented the Turks from raising their banner from one of Belgrade’s turrets during the siege of the city in 1456, causing both Dugovics and the standard-bearer to fall to their deaths.

    1,909 words

Recently, I was speaking to a friend about the Russo-Ukrainian War and specifically, the effect it has had on Western nationalists. Many people calling themselves anti-imperialists have enthusiastically embraced the imperial project to annex Ukraine and erase Ukrainian nationhood, absorbing this people into the broader Russian imperial body. More people who until recently called for “no more brother wars” are now enthusiastically cheering as Russian and Ukrainian soldiers kill each other in a bloody brother war. (more…)

    Rammstein’s Deutschland

    1,859 words

Rammstein was formed in 1994 in Berlin by six men who were originally from East Germany. Their name came from the 1988 Ramstein air show disaster. They created a new musical genre called Neue Deutsche Härte (New German Hard Rock), which was basically a combination of hard rock with elements of techno. (more…)

Robert Brasillach & Notre avant-guerre: Brasillach at Nuremberg in 1937
    Remembering Robert Brasillach, March 31, 1909–February 6, 1945

    Robert Brasillach

    4,453 words

This continues the translation of Robert Brasillach’s Notre avant-guerre, portions of which have appeared here in three earlier installments.

    Preface

In our last episode, Brasillach was taking a motor tour of war-torn Spain in 1938 with two friends (Maurice Bardèche and Pierre Cousteau). (more…)

The Writers’ Bloc with Tim Murdock on the Russo-Ukrainian Conflict

    107 words / 2:09:48

Host Nick Jeelvy was joined by Tim Murdock of White Rabbit Radio on the latest episode of The Writers’ Bloc to discuss, what else, the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, with a special focus on the Russo-German relationship. (more…)

Why Russia Won’t Invade Ukraine, but is Still Winning

A CIA satellite photo of Russian deployments along the Ukrainian border.

    2,533 words

There are many reasons why I’m glad to not be living back home in America right now, and one of them is that I no longer have to listen to the American mainstream media — and worse, those normies who parrot their views in everyday conversations. (more…)

The “Fact Witness” from England’s Rust Belt

    3,039 words

    Fiona Hill
There Is Nothing For You Here: Finding Opportunity in the Twenty-First Century
    New York: HarperCollins Publishers, 2021

You may well remember Fiona Hill as a “fact witness” from Donald Trump’s first impeachment. I thought I would hate her, but after reading her book, I found that she is actually fairly reasonable and motivated by many of the same concerns that I am. I’ll explore the problems in her policy proposals and overall worldview at the end. (more…)

Během letu z Istanbulu do Minsku dočítám klasiku Anthonyho Burgesse Mechanický pomeranč. Mnohé výrazy Burgessova umělého jazyka „nadsatu“ (v českém překladu „jazyk týnů“), který vychází z ruštiny, se mi v Bělorusku docela dobře osvědčí. (more…)

Lothrop Stoddard’s Into the Darkness, Part 2

    3,064 words

    Part 2 of 2 (Part 1 here)

Then Stoddard describes the Hitler Youth and related organizations. Although there were some positive aspects to them, they also resulted in some regrettable family conflicts over politics stemming from friction with the churches, which didn’t want youths to be diverted into a secular organization. In that regard, making membership in the youth organizations compulsory was an overreach. (On the other hand, if we had an obligatory youth group like that today, then we wouldn’t have a wigger problem.) (more…)

Lothrop Stoddard’s Into the Darkness, Part 1

    Lothrop Stoddard

    3,135 words

    Part 1 of 2 (Part 2 here)

What was life like during the Third Reich? An accurate picture is fairly difficult to arrive at, given the propaganda saturation persisting generations after the fact. Watching Hollywood movies won’t provide a balanced take, for obvious reasons. Neither will reruns of Hogan’s Heroes on late-night cable TV. War fever tends to fade as time goes on. Throughout the 1970s, I never heard anyone exhorting anyone to “Remember the Maine!” as if the Spanish-American War had ended yesterday, for example. (more…)

Senile Joe & the Loss of American Deterrence

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin

    1,742 words

We are now nearly a year into Senile Joe’s presidency, and something highly alarming has already happened: America has lost its power to deter. “Deterrence,” writes Victor Davis Hanson, “is the ancient ability to scare somebody off from hurting you, your friends, or your interests — without a major war.”

The Russians — not “the Russians” who hack elections, but the real live sons of Czar Alexander’s valiant army — are carrying out considerable military activity in Eastern Europe. (more…)
