The Unprotected Class: How Anti-White Racism Is Tearing America Apart

Instauration, an underground newsletter that ran from 1975 through 2000, used to have a section called “Stirrings,” where editor Wilmot Robertson featured examples of our people pushing back against anti-whiteness. These brief write-ups were often about local activist groups forming, or academics who questioned certain aspects of racial orthodoxy. Perhaps the most important stirring of our times is a series of books about anti-whiteness released over the past year by mainstream publishers. Have whites finally started to fight back?
The Unprotected Class by Jeremy Carl is the latest book to point out anti-whiteness. But unlike America’s Cultural Revolution by Christopher Rufo and When Race Trumps Merit by Heather MacDonald, Carl specifically targets anti-white racism, as the title suggests. The Unprotected Class reminds me of another book I read 32 years ago (more on that later) that opened my eyes to the existence of people who did not just detail the anti-white nature of all American institutions, but also wanted to push back against it.
Carl is well qualified to write this book. A graduate of both Yale and Harvard, he is now a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute, where he studies racial issues. The author also worked for the Trump administration in the Department of the Interior.
Those of us already aware of anti-white animus will be familiar with the examples and statistics Carl provides. But they will no doubt be jarring to many normies and MAGA types who realize that bad things are happening to whites, but do not know the extent of anti-whiteness. To help them, Carl offers over 76 pages of endnotes that document the hatred and discrimination whites face on a daily basis from literally every United States institution.
In addition to an interest in plain justice, Carl offers this assessment of why he wrote The Unprotected Class:
What happens when those largely historically responsible for building American society and its institutions go from a dominant position to just one group among many, and a legally and culturally disfavored group at that? . . . If we do not correct the course we are on, I fear we are headed for the civil strife and racial violence that has characterized so many other multiracial countries over the centuries, including, in the past, our own.

Whites are now an “unprotected class,” meaning whites are in principle protected against racial discrimination by law, but in practice are actively hated and discriminated against by those enacting and enforcing these laws. Whites are targeted in culture as well. The author gives a depressing number of examples of what can only be called anti-white racism coming from the most elite institutions. He takes on issues such as affirmative action, enforced diversity, the history of civil rights enforcement, anti-white crime and violence, the Black Lives Matter scam, myths around redlining and home loans, and the ethnic cleansing of whites from many cities.
Now entrenched in all US institutions, Carl has separate chapters for anti-white animus in areas such as education, history, immigration, entertainment, the environmental movement, big business, health care, religion, and the military. The author packs a lot of information (with sources) into each chapter and, if anything, over-proves his case about the reality of anti-whiteness.
Those who imagine that we live in a colorblind society are sure to get a rude awakening on every page of The Unprotected Class. Some typical examples from each institution he profiles include:
Media
- New York Times journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones writes, “The white race is the biggest murderer, rapist, pillager, and thief of the modern world.” Not only does she keep her job, her anti-white “1619 Project” has made its way into American school curriculum.
Law
- Of the 97 federal judges approved by President Biden in his first two years, only five were white men while 22 were black women. This includes Nancy Adudu, who came directly from a career at the far-Left Southern Poverty Law Center.
Crime
- When a white man shot up blacks at a supermarket in Buffalo, Joe Biden visited the site immediately and condemned white supremacy. Around the same time, a black man who had made Black Nationalist social media posts plowed into a white crowd that had gathered for a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Biden did not visit the white victims or condemn black supremacy.
- Whites are victims in 74% of the stranger homicides committed by blacks. Yet, whites only choose black or Hispanic victims in stranger homicides 10% of the time.
- In a depressingly typical case of ethnic cleansing that took place all across the US, whites in a working-class suburb outside of Dallas fell from 98% in 1960 to 12% in 1990. 46 elderly whites in the suburb were raped by blacks between June and September 1982 alone.
Housing
- While blacks still complain about redlining (banks declaring whole neighborhoods unworthy of loans), over 90% of the victims of this practice in the 1930s and ‘40s were white (they were “redlined” over the perceived inability to pay back loans). Meanwhile, real estate agents targeted white neighborhoods with “block busting,” where they would plant blacks in a white neighborhood with the goal of generating panic sales among whites at lower prices than what their houses were worth.
- President Obama’s Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) act requires towns that the government thinks are too white to engage in the recruitment of non-whites through low-income housing.
Education
- The University of Michigan employs 163 diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) employees. Eliminating these bureaucrats could pay for 1,000 full scholarships for students.
- At the University of North Carolina, white students had to score 176 points higher than black students on their SATs to be admitted to the school.
Demographics
- In the 1960 Census, nearly half of US states were 95% white. 14 states were 98% white. Today the whitest state is Maine, at 90% white. Only 23% of children in California are white.
Big Business
- American corporations donated almost $100 billion to Black Lives Matter after the 2020 George Floyd riots. In 2021, 94% of new jobs among the top 100 US corporations went to non-whites.
Health Care
- Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston seeks to pilot the delivery of “preferential care based on race.” During the COVID epidemic, several states gave preferences to blacks and others for initially scarce vaccines.
Religion
- Brett McCracken, a senior editor at the Gospel Coalition, instructs white evangelical Christians to “listen to and defer to nonwhite & nonwestern Christian leaders.” An article in the Catholic magazine America claimed, “I believe that the cruel, brutal, immoral and monstrous havoc caused by white supremacist ideology needs to be presented with full intensity, without pulling punches.”
Military
- While it has the reputation of being a conservative institution, Carl notes that the military has a long history of anti-whiteness. This includes the hushing up of a 1969 beating death of a white soldier named Edward Bankston by 40 black Marines. Of course, the Confederate flag has long been banned on military bases, while BLM flags were proudly flown at the same bases. Military personnel must endure mandatory anti-white trainings such as “White Privilege: Unpacking The Invisible Knapsack.”
Even poetry is not immune to anti-white racism. In 2015, white poet Michael Derrick Hudson authored a poem that got rejected by 40 publishers. When he published it under the name Yi-Fen Chou, it was selected for that year’s issue of the Best American Poetry anthology.
Where does all this lead? The author writes:
For middle-class and working-class whites, and even for an increasing number of upper-class whites, this anti-white discrimination and racism is deadly . . . Anti-white racism interacts with lower incomes, unsafe neighborhoods, or an inability to send one’s kids to a good school (or all of the above) to create a toxic brew.
Solutions
Carl offers solutions to fight anti-whiteness in his concluding chapter. This includes things such as boycotts, civil disobedience, holding blacks and Leftists accountable for anti-white racism, using lawfare against anti-whites, reforming civil rights laws so that they protect whites, and ending affirmative action and DEI bureaucracies. He also hopes that Hispanics will come to identify themselves as white and that we can form an alliance with Asians around a commonality of interests. Notably, he calls for a “net zero” immigration policy of the kind long called for by Peter Brimelow and others. The author consistently weaves the demographic decline of whites (just 57% of the US population in the 2020 Census) into his analysis of the anti-whiteness of the nation they created.
Perhaps anticipating the response of existing white advocates, he writes:
Some passionate advocates may find these proposals insufficient. They may reasonably ask why white Americans should compromise at all on issues of white identity and culture when they have been the victims of full-scale discrimination and replacement for decades now.

Carl maintains that any strong embrace of white identity could entail violence, since America is already multiracial.
I noted at the beginning of this review that The Unprotected Class reminds me of a book I read back in 1992. Paved with Good Intentions is not a White Nationalist book, though its author, Jared Taylor, is now known as the preeminent white advocate in the United States. Paved made many of the same points that Carl makes without advocating for white identity. However, Jared Taylor did warn that “White Americans will eventually lose patience. . . . Only for so long will whites watch blacks use race as a weapon before they forge racial weapons of their own.”
Coming on the heels of several other books that acknowledge anti-whiteness and question America’s racial orthodoxy, The Unprotected Class may well be a sign that whites have lost patience and are finally ready to make racial weapons.
Unlike 30 years ago, there is now a dissident Right network of podcasts, social media accounts, publications, and media pundits that have helped promote Carl’s book. This was not available when Jared Taylor wrote Paved with Good Intentions. Back then, only underground newsletters such as American Renaissance and Instauration took on these issues. It is worth noting that Carl does not mention or even acknowledge Jared Taylor, Sam Francis, Greg Johnson, or anyone else who walked point on these issues and paid a high price for doing so.
Maybe that is the cost for having a mainstream publisher and endorsements from Tucker Carlson, Christopher Rufo, Victor David Hanson, Charlie Kirk, and other respectable conservatives.
Jeremy Carl has authored an excellent book that is reaching many new people. I would encourage all Counter-Currents readers to buy a copy and share it with family and friends. Still, a question I would like to ask the author is this: What if anti-whiteness persists despite your good efforts?

A nation that sets such men on a high tower to inspire men to be even greater.

His book might have useful information but the end goal, like Tucker Carlson, is never a true embrace of White identity which is the only solution to the problems we face.
This really feels like yet another controlled opposition piece that’s intended to placate the White man for a few more years until the demographic situation is even worse.
I honestly don’t think people know what ‘controlled opposition’ means anymore. Carl is an opponent of White Identity Nationalism. I don’t know what the word ‘controlled’ is supposed to add to this basic fact.
So, I think it’s fair to ask why is Carl opposed to White Identity Nationalism?
Carl maintains that any strong embrace of white identity could entail violence, since America is already multiracial.
Now, the simple fact is that the Powers That Be do not care about violence as long as its violence against Whites.
This is part of the anti-White system that Carl seems to have documented quite well, but, being a biological jew, Carl possesses no visceral appreciation for the daily impact violence against Whites has on Whites, even when they are not directly injured.
Which, really, is the point of allowing non-Whites to engage in seemingly endless and unpunished violence against Whites: To cur the White race into submission.
So, Carl’s concern about the advancement of White Identity Nationalist sentiments and politics is largely disingenuous.
The ‘violence’ is already occurring.
He simply prefers that Whites not respond.
As for ‘America’ being ‘multiracial’, this an attempt to convert a bare ‘fact’ into an element of the natural order itself.
But the bare existence of a ‘fact’ such as ‘multiracial America’ is no guarantee of its continued existence as such.
The question for a genuinely revolutionary politics is whether this ‘fact’ need remain the status quo.

You’ll find a similar kind of split in the work of Charles Murray, co-author of 1994’s The Bell Curve, who described the problem of class/cultural division between Whites in 2012’s Coming Apart and who made it abundantly clear from the data in Facing Reality: Two Truths About Race In America, just out in 2021, that Blacks, as the most intellectually dim and most violently criminal race, cannot live on terms of equality with Whites. (Thomas Jefferson clearly stated this in his 1821 Autobiography.)
Despite all the data-based reality, this totally Scots-Irish White American concludes that the worst response to our plight would be… White nationalism.
So the idea that non-Whites should have an infinite license to access White lives? White territories? Every objection I encounter to White Nationalism is a core value for pro-Whites comes down to preferring the status quo to actual pro-White revolutionary politics. The fundamental principle of White Nationalism is whites possessing their own territories and Whites ruling Whites in the interest of Whites. It’s not a re-hash of any ‘conservative’ or ‘liberal’ or ‘marxist’ or ‘judeo-christian’ ideology. It’s its own thing. A revolutionary thing. Fundamentally, Whites have to relearn how to care about each other. Allowing any other concern to interfere with that process is just collaborating in with anti-Whites. What binds Whites together has to be their bio-cultural inheritance, not ‘the West’ no ‘Christendom’, not ‘history’ or ‘philosophy’ or any of the efflorescences of Whiteness that we so often dwell upon. But all of that is dispensable compared to the bare fact of being White together on a global scale. If we cannot – or will not – do that, then the enemies of Whites can always find some point of friction (like ‘Scots-Irish’ versus ‘Yankee’) that can be used to put us at each other’s throats. In order to make sure that Whites do no allow ‘outsiders’ to decide their fate, we need to know who is an ‘outsider’ and who is an ‘insider’. In my view, every White person is an ‘insider’ because any other approach invites factionalism and exploitation by outsiders.

I cannot find my source for that claim…yet. I read it somewhere but I don’t know where. Here is the substance of the claim: Jeremy Carl’s family has jews within it. However, he was also described as ‘Christian’ (which to me is just another version of ‘jewish’).

I am particularly interested in energy and nuclear policy, and it looks like Jeremy Carl has written some very worthwhile stuff on many topics including Race that we can absolutely learn from.
But as far as “Movement” leadership goes, or what one could term “controlled opposition,” the triple parentheses question remains the paramount aspect if winning remains the goal.

I recommend studying and training from activists who are effective activists which have not been White American Conservatives , the “ respectable Right”:which includes this latest apparent Je@ just writing polite books that restate the problem .

There’s actionable stuff to be found in the book. The rules themselves are pretty concise and self-explanatory, and the rest is commentary. As noted above, one of them is about picking someone to be the public face of something bad he’s doing and harping on it incessantly. Some other items are basically Sun-Tzu 101.

Relatedly. Matt Walsh is a White male Catholic commentator from Daily Wire who has a YouTube show with 2.86 million subscribers. His claim to fame, along with his very sardonic sense of humor, is his anti-trans documentary, What Is A Woman? He has increasingly and now regularly aims his commentary at anti-White attitudes and behaviors and names them specifically as anti-White. A good sign.

This frustrating. All that White Nationalists and other dissidents have available to us is our language, and it is disheartening to see Carl using our enemies weapons so carelessly.
I perhaps understand why he is using it? Because Whites enter a state of panic when that so called word is seen or uttered, and due to some foolish sense of fairness, think – “all racism bad”.
But this in itself is circular, it feels like a Kafka trap, as *racism/racist* ( no such thing exists ) are THE pre-eminent anti-White slurs that has done untold psychological damage to White people(s).
Liberals have simply pathologised Whites taking their own side, which is normal, healthy, and natural for any organism that wishes to persist. They have not only made us cattle, they have made us dysfunctional.
Secondly it is not so much a word, but a tool, as the word itself does not matter, and be used interchangeably with “Nazi”, “White “Supremacist” etc.
What is important under hegemonic, anti-White, Liberal, regime(s) is that the term dictates “behaviors” of the target group, which is White people(s), globally.
By using this so called word *racism* Carl and others like him justify it’s legitimacy, but it is not only illegitimate, it was created “specifically” to psychologically abuse, to psychologically paralyse, prevent resistance to, and ultimately prime White populations to accept social conditions that perpetuate harm against White life.
I will never forget that Dahmer, after being found guilty of kidnapping, drugging, killing, mutilating, butchering, storing, and cannibalising, it was important to note, on record, that he was in fact, not a racist.

Short answer: No.
People like this who write books like this don’t believe that Whites actually have a right to be the majority (or only) people in the USA, or any of our other countries. They’re 100% ok with non-whites taking everything we built, mixing with our women, holding every office, and outnumbering us “so long as Whites aren’t mistreated.”
They’re still ok with Brazil and South Africa being our future, and they would condemn any calls, or actions taken, to keep the USA majority White, and demand that Whites be in charge of the country.
Therefore, I don’t see benefit to these Fox News style books and utterances about “anti-white racism” actually helping us. They might as well say nothing
This is movement in the right direction, it raises awareness of serious issues and incontrovertible facts, it’s the most that anyone in the mainstream is ‘allowed’ to say, and arguing commonality, using their words against them, “not by the color of the skin, but by the content of his character”, arguing from their principles of egalitarianism, the construction of multiculturalism (which turns out to be much like the construction of communism, in that it is never completed) may be hard to stomach – but they work to bend the bars of ‘acceptable opinion’, of course to our benefit
Such works may be slightly destructive, in appeasing dissenters, in strengthening the hope in the movement for reconciliation and accommodation with the system – but they are much more constructive than the usual fare of new mainstream political and scientific works on relevant topics – we would much prefer this in the front of every Barnes and Noble than some new tract from Ibram Kendi or Robin DiAngelo, and you can rest assured that it will find such places by the silent work of librarians who are, again, widening the bounds of acceptable thought
I’ve noticed a trend among Jewish authors (the few ones who are more intelligent than the average of their Tribe ) and who fear that the non-white hordes they have fostered and imported will escape their control and harm them. (as they see as an “ avant-goût “ with the pro-Palestinians).
So they concede a few rights to the persecuted whites, while firmly condemning any genuine white nationalism, racialism or separatism.
Note that all these Jewish authors ( Ron Unz included ) promote miscegenation with Hispanics and Asians ( even though the latter are just as anti-white ).
Their aim is clear: the creation of an underclass of half-white, half-Latino peons, a very ugly superclass of half-whites-Asians (archetypally the repulsive Mitch McConnell) with a “ zest “ of mischlings… while above them the tribe would continue to reign while being careful not to intermarry.

Reminds me of a Scotsman I knew who could be simultaneously enraged that the English stole the Stone of Scone in 1296, but gleeful that the stone they stole was actually a decoy (according to him).
I’ve watched a couple of the interviews of the guy making his rounds. He came across as not at all emotionally invested in the problem. Learning about his background may provide an explanation. His tag line is that he wrote this book to, “Wake whites up and get them to stand up for themselves.” It is an odd phrase. The litany of vicious abuses of our people and he has no anger, no righteous and justifiable rage – a meager, “Hey whitey, go out and spend decades acting like MLK led black activists.”
It only stirs more anger and deserved anger. You would think he would anoint himself as the vanguard and the head of a movement. That he doesn’t tells you he is only interested in selling books. I hesitate to buy it and send it to friends and family, because while he seems to describe massive injustice and our dispossession and frankly historically unprecedented abuse by our government and our elite, his takeaway is something I don’t want to recommend to anyone.
Maybe the book will create some new young men with a revolutionary spirit. We already have some in men like Thomas Rousseau who have fiery rhetoric and seem to command a disciplined group of street activists.
I suppose this book is progress even though these abuses have long ago been documented. Something that doesn’t offer the reader a viable focal point for the anger it must inspire is suspicious. Another thing I hate is that the book capitulates that we are a multi-cultural society and that it warns against white anger and reprisal. It is just another person saying that what they really think is wrong is not anger at the massive injustice done to us but the specter of us having, “a backlash.” They are only provoking a just reprisal.
Most of the reviews by his buddies at American Mind are also mostly capitulations to living in a multi-cultural and multi-racial democracy. They are ceding defeat and they don’t seem to bothered by it. There was one decent response by Pedro Gonzalez. He rightly and properly calls out Trump’s Platinum Plan as another anti-white grift and even warns Carl and writers of his ilk not to play with fire. His warning is that what can be looked to as a possibility if authors, politicians and other grifters do not properly address white’s grievances is Zimbabwe.
There continues to be an opening for some elites to step in and adopt a far more fiery and assertive rhetoric, ala Thomas Rousseau. The person who has the means and comes from the existing elite that does so will be uncancellable and unstoppable. Capitulating on the multi-racial democracy is both a confession and a surrender that we do not welcome.
How we push this new shift in the Overton Window to an advantage is unclear.
I’ll buy his book when it’s titled “Jew Stop Destroying White Countries.”
This book appears to be similar to one that I reviewed last year, Ed Brodow’s “The War on Whites” with the main differences being that Carl discusses the role of immigration and advocates immigration restriction, and that he criticizes Civil Rights Law without heaping praise on MLK and the idea of “colorblindness”
It’s encouraging to see a former government official saying that Whites must organize as Whites. Carl, correct me if I’m wrong, seems to have written a kind of “Uppity White Folks Manifesto” to use Dr. Johnson’s term. https://counter-currents.com/2020/11/uppity-white-folks-manifesto-part-1/
Could the fact that Carl, according to F Roger Devlin’s recent article at Amren, has at least partial Jewish ancestry be the reason for his opposition to White Nationalism? I suspect that we will start to see some right-wing Jews begin to promote immigration restriction on the grounds that immigration is bad for Whites and Jews (as immigrants tend not to care much for Israel) while at the same time opposing White Nationalism. They may hope to form a White-Jewish alliance, and convince conservative Whites that Jews are really “on their side”.
Obviously, I’d much prefer Jews to start championing White interests instead of opposing them at every turn, but the normalization of White Identity politics, while necessary, is a means to an end and not an end in itself.
