In the Summer of 1942 — while the Germans were at the peak of their powers, totally unaware of the approaching fire storm that would turn their native land into an inferno — the philosopher Martin Heidegger wrote (for a forth-coming lecture course at Freiberg) the following lines, which I take from the English translation known as Hölderlin’s Hymn “The Ister”:[1]
“The Anglo-Saxon world of Americanism” — Heidegger noted in an aside to his nationalist/ontological examination of his beloved Hölderlin — “has resolved to annihilate Europe, that is, the homeland, and that means: [it has resolved to annihilate] the commencement of the Western world.”
In annihilating the commencement (the origins or breakout of European being) – and thus in annihilating the people whose blood flowed in American veins — New World Europeans, unknowingly, destroyed the essence of their own being — by disowning their origins – denigrating the source of their life-form, denying themselves, thus, the possibility of a future.
“Whatever has commencement is indestructible.”
Americans destined their self-destruction by warring on their commencement – by severing the root of their being.
But Europe — this unique synergy of blood and spirit — cannot be killed, for her essence, Heidegger tells us, is the “commencement” — the original — the enowning — the perpetual grounding and re-asserting of being.
Europe thus always inevitably rises again and again — like she and her bull from under the waters, which sweep over her, as she undauntedly plunges into what is coming.
Her last stand is consequently always her first stand — another commencement — as she advances to her origins — enowning the uncorrupted being of her beginning – as she authenticates herself in the fullness of a future which enables her to begin over and over.

The opposite holds as well.
America’s annihilation of her commencement revealed her own inherent lack of commencement.
From the start, her project was to reject her European origins — to disown the being that made her who she was — as her Low Church settlers pursued the metaphor of Two Worlds, Old and New.
For Heidegger, America’s “entry into this planetary war is not [her] entry into history; rather, it is already, the ultimate American act of American ahistoricality and self-devastation.”
For having emerged, immaculately conceived, from the jeremiad of her Puritan Errand, America defined herself in rejection of her past, in rejection of her origins, in rejection of her most fundamental ontological ground — as she looked westward, toward the evening sun and the ever-expanding frontier of her rootless, fleeting future, mythically legitimated in the name of an ‘American Dream’ conjured up from the Protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism.
Americans, the preeminent rational, rootless, uniform homo oeconomics, never bothered looking ahead because they never looked back. Past and future, root and branch – all pulled up and cut down.
No memory, no past, no meaning.
In the name of progress — which Friedrick Engels imagined as a ‘cruel chariot riding over mounds of broken bodies’ – American being is dissolved in her hurly-burly advance toward the blackening abyss.
Yet however it is spun, it was from Europe’s womb that Americans entered the world and only in affirming the European being of their Motherland and Fatherhood was there the possibility of taking root in their “New” World – without succumbing to the barbarians and fellaheen outside the Mother-soil and Father-Culture.
Instead, America’s founders set out to reject their mother. They called her Egyptian or Babylonian — and took their identity – as the ‘elect’, the ‘chosen’, the ‘light to nations’ — from the desert nomads of the Old Testament — alien to the great forests of our Northern lands — envious of our blue-eye, fair-hair girls – repelled by the great-vaulted heights of our Gothic Cathedrals.
The abandonment of their original and only being set Americans up as the perpetual fixers of world-improvement — ideological champions of consummate meaninglessness – nihilism’s first great ‘nation’.

While Heidegger was preparing his lecture, tens of thousands of tanks, trucks, and artillery pieces started making their way from Detroit to Murmansk, and then to the Germans’ Eastern front.
A short time later, the fires began to fall from the sky — the fires bearing the curse of Cromwell and the scorched-earth convictions of Sherman — the fires that turned German families into cinders, along with their great churches, their palatial museums, their densely packed, sparkling-clean working-class quarters, their ancient libraries and cutting-edge laboratories.
The forest that took a thousand years to become itself perishes in a night of phosphorous flames.
It would be a long time — it hasn’t come yet — before the Germans — the People of the Center — the center of Europe’s being — rise again from the rubble, this time more spiritual than material.

Heidegger could know little of the apocalyptic storm that was about to destroy his Europe.
But did he at least suspect that the Führer had blundered Germany into a war she could not win? That not just Germany, but the Europe opposing the Anglo-American forces of Mammon would also be destroyed?

“The concealed spirit of the commencement in the West will not even have the look of contempt for this trial of self-devastation without commencement, but will await its stellar hour from out of the releasement and tranquility that belong to the commencement.”
An awakened, recommencing Europe promises, thus, to repudiate America’s betrayal of herself — America, this foolish European idea steeped in Enlightenment hubris, which is to be forgotten (as a family skeleton), once Europe reasserts herself.
In 1942, though, Heidegger did not know that Europeans, even Germans, would soon betray themselves to the Americans, as the Churchills, Adenauers, Blums — Europe’s lickspittle — rose to the top of the postwar Yankee pyramid designed to crush every idea of nation, culture, and destiny.
That’s Europe’s tragedy.

Once Europe awakes – it will one day – she will re-affirm and re-assert herself – no longer distracted by America’s glitter and tinsel, no longer intimidated by her hydrogen bomb and guided missiles – seeing clearly, at last, that this entertainment worthy of Hollywood conceals an immense emptiness — her endless exercises in consummate meaninglessness.
Incapable therefore of beginning again, having denied herself a commencement, the bad idea that America has become is likely, in the coming age of fire and steel, to disintegrate into her disparate parts.
At that moment, white Americans will be called on, as New World Europeans, to assert their “right” to a homeland in North America — so that there, they will have a place at last to be who they are.
If they should succeed in this seemingly unrealizable fortune, they will found the American nation(s) for the first time – not as the universal simulacrum Masons and deists concocted in 1776 — but as the blood-pulse of Europe’s American destiny.
“We only half-think what is historical in history, that is, we do not think it at all, if we calculate history and its magnitude in terms of the length . . . of what has been, rather than awaiting that which is coming and futural.”
Commencement, as such, is “that which is coming and futural” — that which is the “historical in history” — that which goes very far back and is carried forward into every distant, unfolding future – like Pickett’s failed infantry charge at Gettysburg that Faulkner tells us is to be tried again and again until it succeeds.

“We stand at the beginning of historicality proper, that is, of action in the realm of the essential, only when we are able to wait for what is to be destined of one’s own.”
“One’s own” — this assertion of ourselves — Heidegger contends, will only come if we defy conformity, convention, and unnatural conditioning to realize the European being, whose destiny is ours alone.
At that moment, if we should succeed in standing upright, in the way our ancestors did, we will reach ahead and beyond to what is begun through every futuristic affirmation of who we European-Americans are.
This reaching, though, will be no ‘actionless or thoughtless letting things come and go . . . [but] a standing that has already leapt ahead, a standing within what is indestructible (to whose neighborhood desolation belongs, like a valley to a mountain).”
For desolation there will be — in this struggle awaiting our kind – in this destined future defiantly holding out a greatness that does not break as it bends in the storm — a greatness certain to come with the founding of a European nation in North America – a greatness I often fear that we no longer have in ourselves and that needs thus to be evoked in the fiery warrior rites that once commemorated the ancient Aryan sky gods, however far away or fictitious they have become.

Very incisive and poignant, Michael. You have locked onto many of the fatal flaws in the Anglo psyche, and thus shown the herculean task in trying to ‘save’ an intellectually crippled people from themselves. Intellectually and spiritually toxified, the aberrant, self-negating Anglo-American population engaged in one of the most genetically destructive and ideologically warped “crusades” that they, and their Jewish “friends” could possibly have engaged in. In committing the matricide of Europe, they in effect, heaped-up their own funeral pyre. Those Anglo/Whites alive today are wallowing in the contaminated debris of that cataclysm, still believing in, what is in effect, a collective genetic and cultural death wish.
Aside: I would not mention Adenauer in the same breath as Churchill or Blum. Adenauer was not responsible or plunging Europe into a war. In the years of his chancellorship he did the best for Germany that was possible under the circumstances of occupation and political dependence. He was very bold towards the former Allied powers, and even towards Israel (famously stating in a TV interview that one must never forget that “world Jewry is a major power”). He also openly spoke out about Allied war crimes committed against the German people in a magnificent speech held as early as 1949, in which he also emphasized that a people without a “national feeling does away with itself”. Q.E.D! He had nothing in common with the German chancellors that were to follow, each one in quality below the predecessor, down to the traitorious scum that rules Germany today.
Ad Heidegger: I think he is very difficult to translate into another language. Translating Hölderlin is impossible.
An aside noted and accepted.
Historical ruminations at this level of philosophical generalization leave me cold. It wasn’t “Americans” who made Western Civilization’s vastest mistake – releasing The Jews from the ghettos – it was Heidegger’s “Europeans”. By and by, when international Jewry’s effort to grease the skids of globalization via debt-creation blows sky high, there will be a reckoning. I think Heidegger – and O’Meara – would/will be agreeably surprised by the number of armed American whites who take part in this ultimate settling of accounts. By contrast, a disarmed white Europe is largely at the mercy of the Jews and their ethnoid spear-carriers.

Fascinating observation. It’s almost as if you are saying, when we have lost everything, we will lose any need to support the status quo. Pain is an excellent teacher.
The “disarmed white Europe” is at the mercy of their Racial Enemies, which will soon turn London into New Londonistan, with Paris as the second capital of Algiers, and Berlin as the second capital of Turkey.
Considering the American future, “historical ruminations at this level” quietly inspire me, as I need not waste any effort in trying to stop Goliath from committing suicide. I can be freed up to focus on something much more important, such as Harold Covington’s model for the Northwest American Republic.
If that requires “fiery warrior rites that once commemorated the ancient Aryan sky gods,” then so much the better. The Priesthood of Wotan is a leading thought we can work with.
Parenthetical note: the idea of a new Church, based on the Next Christianity, formed from a foundation of the Gospel of John, with various Orders doing various Good Things, does seem to complement Heidegger’s ideas, and O’Meara’s analysis.

We’ve turned a corner. On C-SPAN two nights ago the head of the American Bankers Association remarked in an expansive Keynesian presentation to a full room that we have to man up and “deal with” Social Security. Elsewhere a lawmaker has bleated for extra time and security–for what? For the dirty business to be done.

Counter Currents Publishing beats all for illustrating the meta backdrop before which the scene passes. The spirit and awareness housed here are vital.
Paths are opening up. They lead through desolation it is true but they reach homeland and glory.
@Ceres: perhaps I’m insufficiently IQ’d to “get” Heidegger. The fact that he allowed himself to be surrounded by Jewish accolytes ( read: controllers) like Marcuse, Jonas, and Arendt makes me, however, instantly suspicious. This is one of the principal Jewish MO’s: they sense something or someone who is/might be a threat to their Tribal interests, and they cluster around like killer antibodies. The recent flickering of Jewish antennae toward WN (cf: Ilana Mercer’s latest book) is another and ongoing instance. As to Europe and America, the Jews were out of their ghettos and taking over European finance well before the American Revolution. They did not begin their takeover of American finance until the early years of the 20th century, via the Federal Reserve system. Politically, the Tribe got control of the democrat pty in the late 1940s (mostly via direct purchase) and the republicans (mostly via the neoCon infestation) are a more recent Jewish acquisition. The Northwest Project? While I have absolute respect for Covington as a man and activist, this would be a doomed White Bantustan. We either take all of North America back from organized Jewry and its imported ethnic stormtroopers, or they will destroy us utterly. I have Jews married into several branches of my extended family, and we have discussed these issues at some length. Their purposes are lethal.

True enough. Their entire focus is on organization; ruthless, relentless, and effective. We, on the other hand, are not allowed to organize along explicitly Racial lines. They do so, as they are a Race, among themselves, and followers of a Religion, among us. We can learn from this.
Chuck Pearson, Linder’s Master in Matters Judaica, said as much, and he is right. The Swarm – nice Alinskyist tactic, that – is their forte. They then encapsulate any potential opposition, using the technique of dynamic silencing – “Yes, thank you for your comments. Now, summing up, Rabbi, do you have any words to leave us with tonight?” BOOM. THEY define the Agenda, THEY define the Words and Definitions, and THEY get the last word, which is the only one anyone will remember. Your position has been destroyed, and you have been neutralized, at best, and ostracized henceforth, at worst, all without firing a shot.
THAT is a seminally important observation. They MUST get out front and define White nationalism to THEIR satisfaction, for the same reason they don’t want the German people to read Tacitus’ “Germanicus.” Once they get the idea that it is possible, they could really run with that ball. Notice how not ONE Republican candidate speaks against Affirmative Action, and, in office, vote to expand the Affirmative Action bureaucracy? Let them realize “It’s Alright, To Be White,” and see what happens.

That elegant idea didn’t quite earn Washington’s approval.
More on point, ten dollar a gallon gasoline will make us an outpost hardly worth the trouble. Washington will have its hands more than full with the collapse of the Mexican State. We might even intervene in their developing Civil War. THAT will further drain the Empire, and make us something well worth ignoring.
Fires start with sparks, living, viable, forces that transform what stands before them until they run out of fuel, and are exhausted. That spark MUST be carefully tendered, and allowed to develop strength and viability before it is let loose to serve Mankind; for example, by clearing a forest for our Families, with the ashy soil rich in nutrients needed to support agriculture. The American Nation has been an extension of Europe, which is an extension of the outworking of the process of Western Civilization. We have had several Cultural Moments, each with its own currency, and its own Constitution. This one is dying, and lacks the power to rebuild itself from within. can you imagine Detroit being anything other than what it is? How about South Central Los Angeles? East St. Louis? Should we waste one minute of our lives, even one of our hard-earned dollars, in such futile endeavors? No, of course not.
We can not even take back one square FOOT of South Central. Try it, and see what happens.
The Mormons could not hold or take back Nauvoo, the city they built from wilderness swampland, which grew bigger than Chicago, attracted the ruthless, and was destroyed. The Mormons fled Nauvoo, facing horrific hardship, dying like flies from exhaustion, exposure, and starvation. They went to an empty desert section in the Valley of the Salt Lake.
A horrific and very challenging beginning, but they seemed to have done alright for themselves, in part because of brilliant leadership, and because they were motivated by a transcendent Common Vision, in the fulfillment of a metapolitical order. Yet, it took that Core of true believers to make that happen. People sacrificed their all, even their lives, in the fulfillment of that vision, pulled forward by that sense of Destiny, and DUTY in the fulfillment of that Destiny.
They weren’t doing it for themselves. they were doing it for their Posterity. (Note, by the way, that the Mormon Church, and the Great Trek of ’47, were motivated by economic calamities in the American nation.) Yet, they did not waste their time trying to convince others they were right; they did not fight futile battles against the greatest military and intelligence power the world had seen to that time. No. They focused on doing what they could, starting where they were; a good example, for all of us.
I see the Northwest Republic as an Analytical Model, one I use to counter the demoralization of the news I received daily. I react by framing the issues in terms of how I would see this problem, and solve this problem, in a Northwest Republic.
“Taking America back” is the work of centuries. Would it be worth it? Caramba! I think we have much better uses for our time, and our lives.
I think not. I would rather see the Northwest as the embryonic foundation of a New Civilization, a Civilization of the North. This requires one thing we have all been missing, until Covington mentioned the IRA.
A religion. To be precise, OUR religion, which would be consistent with what helps the Race to fulfill the Duty to transform the Earth in accordance with the metapolitical order. The religion?
Christianity, to be exact, but a Masculine, Patriarchal Christianity, based on the Gospel of John, with complementary commentaries from Yockey, and a few others.
This makes elegant sense. We can do amazing things with a religion, particularly when it has specialized Orders – the living, spiritual equivalent of corporations – to work with the division of Talents, the division of Abilities, the division of Labor. The most effective colonizer in the New World was the Roman Catholic Church, and no one of the nation-States of Europe.
“Take America back?” How do you propose to counter the demoralization of decades? WE are the Common Enemy of what America has become.
No, make yourself into the Living Foundation of the New Nation. Bury the dead with the dead, and become one of the Living. Don’t be a victim. Don’t be Charlie Brown, waiting for Lucy to play fair with you.

When CompassionateFascist, who I think is intelligent, young, and on our side, figures out what’s wrong with his moniker, maybe at the same time he will figure out that the Jews were not ’emancipated’ until 1789; that the Mormons, however naive the sophisticates consider them, are (or at least were) one of the finest demographic reproductions of Nordic North America; and, most important, as you so well keep saying it, everything — EVERYTHING — is going to change for us the moment our spirit begins to change.
And as luck has it, the collapsing economy is fastly changing the dominant spirit. Great changes can already be glimpsed on the horizon.
I am an atheist, anti-Catholic papist who defends the ‘faith’ — the faith whose spirit we are — and who takes as his ideal, ARN, the Knight Templar, who, in the spirit of Gothic Christianity, salutes FoC for this marvelous thought — whose ‘truth’ we Heideggerian Goths and Celts describe as ‘unconcealing’ — in its understanding of that something always becoming and being and never possibly captured in a moment — in its understanding of a truthful preparing.

Our Spirit IS changing, and will form the foundation of the next Cultural Moment for the West, drawing power from the Gods of the Northern Mythos, who must just be champing at the bit, saying, “Son, THEY want to turn you into sheep. I have been stunned at how many men who were formerly mainline churchgoers are “watching” pagan rituals, and pagan organizations, develop beneath the radar. They KNOW they have been cast overboard, and are finding the sense of Masculine Purpose in the fulfillment of Destiny, even if they don’t know quite what to do with it, yet. (They will!) Very masculine Orders of Priesthood are developing, and these guys strip everything down to the bare essentials.

For the first time, they are looking at a System that has used them, and thrown them overboard. With a proper outlet, amazing things can be done. I saw one man standing before a campfire – in the space of that evening, he had become a new Man. What he said to me as he was leaving was this – “Goddamn, I feel twenty years younger, and twenty years wiser.” He lives on less money than he used to, but is at peace with his sense of Purpose. He also cut back on his prescription tranquilizers, and said, “I can handle the anger, now. Yes, yes I can.” By now, under medical supervision, he should be off them altogether. The Quickening took place in one night; the Awakening will take lifetimes. Good.
He can’t go back, and he will go forward. As he said, “I gave my old life to a thankless shrew, and a corporation that threw me over the side the minute someone in Bangalore could do my job. Fine. I’ll build my New Life on simplification, and do what works for my new Family, the Race.”
You DO realize what he just said, don’t you?

It won’t be the “work of centuries”. The Jews have badly overreached in their rush to universalize/globalize humankind via Finance Capitalism….this after their FAILURE to do it via revolutionary socialism. Result: gigantic debt-bombs about to go off in both Europe and America. I can’t say what’s going to happen when the EU disintegrates, since the european whites are mostly disarmed and will be at the mercy – at least at first – of the various national oligarchies and their hired killers. In the US, tho – and this despite the most desperate efforts by Soros, Bloomberg, Schumer, Feinstein and Co. – we whites remain heavily armed; indeed, gun and ammo sales have skyrocketed since the ’08 election. The NRA – >5 million strong – is an implicit White Army, and there are other hundreds of militia units scattered about the country. Many – like the NRA – with police and National Guard connections. When the Universal JewPonzi collapses, and/or if/when Obama squeaks thru to a 2012 EC win while losing massively in the popular vote – Texas will secede, closely followed by the High Plains states, most of the Midwest, and most of the South. Meanwhile the big lib cities – LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, DC, Phila, NY, Boston – will, when the EBT cards no longer work, lapse into bloody chaos (already beginning with the anti-Wall St demonstrations), with blacks and latinos butchering ea other, and slaughtering off the urban cosmic whites and Jews as well. National Guard and militia units from the New Confederacy will then blast thru the beltway corridor, liquidating the ethno-remnants of the Old Regime, then do up the rustbelt states, and finally take down Mexifornia and the W. coast cosmics. Needless to say, the body count will be high on all sides; I would not be surprised to see the population reduced by 1/3 or more.
As to my conversations with Jew in-laws, I used the same, stepwise escalating, passive-aggressive techniques I recently applied to Ilana M. at her Barely a Blog site. Gradually drew her out about Israel, Jews, until she exploded: “Fuck Off, CompassionateFascist! You want to kill a whole People! Don’t come back!” I begin chuckling every time I think about it. Jews are EZ, once you know how to handle them. In fact, ultimately, they will self-destruct. Look at Israel, right now.

Two quick comments:
One, the Jews still have Plans for you. Handle them today as you may, but our focus must not be on what we are against. It must be on what we are For, and that must be explicitly linked to The Eternal.
Two, Israel is going to extract a very high price for their demise. Their demographic demise is written in the cards, and their Solution, in part, is to send their children to Los Angeles, Miami, and New York. As well, arrangement must be well underway for them to flee to America, and extract comfortable livings for themselves.
