Years ago, when a young woman set out from Alabama to go to college in California, her uncle told her the story of how California was born. America, you see, was populated by people who just did not fit in back in Europe: religious fanatics, horse thieves, bail jumpers, fortune seekers, and other footloose folk. When they settled on the East Coast, the ones who didn’t fit in there moved a little further West and settled. Those who didn’t fit in there, moved still further West. And so on, and so forth, until they reached the West Coast and couldn’t go any further. Then they started collecting. And that’s what explains California, the great cultural granola of fruits, nuts, and flakes.
I laughed, of course, when she told this story, because as a native Westerner, I know that it is true. I grew up in the inland Northwest, but when I first visited the West Coast, I knew that I was at home. The West Coast of the United States, from San Diego to Seattle, is the closest thing I have experienced to an earthly paradise. We have the best climate in the country. The temperature is almost always mild, no matter where one’s area falls on the spectrum from steady sunshine to perpetual gloom. Aside from the coastline itself, we have some of America’s most beautiful landscapes, ranging from deserts to towering snow-capped volcanoes to rainforests. We have America’s best food and wines, some of its most beautiful cities, and some pretty formidable cultural resources. No, we do not have the art museums of New York City, Washington, D.C., and Boston. No, we do not have the Metropolitan Opera. But we can always visit them during the two weeks of the year when those cities are neither freezing nor sweltering, then hasten back to where living is easy.
The West Coast also has a lot of white people. Seattle and Portland are the whitest large cities in the United States, and outside the cities, Washington and Oregon are even whiter. California, of course, is now majority non-white, although whites remain the largest ethnic group.
The racial quality of Western whites is also very high. Furthermore, white Westerners really are more “laid back” and fun-loving. Western friendliness is not just politeness. It is combined with genuine openness. City folk out West tend to be much less pretentious than city folk back East. Even in San Francisco.
Many White Nationalists hope that when the United States falls apart, a White Republic will emerge in the Pacific Northwest, encompassing Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and parts of Montana and even some parts of Northern California. Harold Covington is the chief promoter of this idea, but he is not its originator or sole proponent. There are White Nationalists moving to the Northwest who are not part of Covington’s Northwest Front.
The chief objection to the idea of a Northwest Homeland is that West Coast tends to be socially and politically liberal, even though the inland West tends to be socially and politically conservative. So, the argument goes, the Pacific Northwest is less hospitable to a White Republic than other, more uniformly conservative areas. (Of course the creation of a White Republic will be an uphill battle anywhere in America.)
White Nationalism is, of course, overwhelmingly associated with the political right both in Europe and America. But White Nationalism will never triumph if it remains confined to the political right. White consciousness must become hegemonic up and down the political spectrum. White liberals and leftists will have to realize that their values are not universal aspirations of all mankind. They are, instead, expressions of a distinctly white consciousness and will not survive or flourish in a non-white society.
Denis Kearney
There is nothing absurd about the idea of a racially conscious left, much less a racially conscious left on the West Coast. Indeed, it has already existed, and its headquarters was right here in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was here that Denis Kearney, 1847–1907, an immigrant from Ireland, founded the California Workingman’s Party to combat Chinese immigration. It was here that Jack London, 1876–1916, wrote passionately on behalf of both socialism and racialism (and experimented with ecologically sustainable agriculture). It was here that Michael O’Meara was born in 1946 and began his intellectual odyssey from Marxist and revolutionary syndicalist to White Nationalist and prophet of the White Republic.
Furthermore, I have noticed that today’s West Coast White Nationalists tend to be socially and even politically more left-wing than White Nationalists from other parts of the United States. I’ll never forget the evening in 2003 when, at a David Irving lecture in San Francisco, I met a daughter of the ’60s counter-culture who told me that her two favorite books are The Lord of the Rings and Mein Kampf.

- West Coast White Nationalists tend to be more strongly concerned with environmental preservation, healthy and sustainable lifestyles, and combating animal cruelty than White Nationalists in other parts of the US. If Savitri Devi were alive today, she would be smuggling stray cats into an organic gardening commune in Berkeley.
- West Coast White Nationalists tend to be more critical of the workings of unrestrained global capitalism. We are pro-labor, protectionist, pro-zoning, and pro-small business.
- West Coast White Nationalists tend to be more non-Christian and to be more honest about it than other White Nationalists. I know atheists, agnostics, neo-pagans, New Agers, and even some who have made extensive study and practice of Eastern philosophies and religions. Religious pluralism and tolerance would definitely be features of a West Coast White Republic.
- West Coast White Nationalists tend to be more tolerant of homosexuals, bisexuals, “androphiles,” and “none of the aboves” who put their racial identity first.
- West Coast White Nationalists tend to be more tolerant of drugs like marijuana and psychedelics.
- West Coast White Nationalists are far less hung up on sub-racial distinctions and Old World feuds than White Nationalists in the East and South. We tend to think of ourselves as whites first and foremost.
These are, of course, generalizations based on personal experience, not sociological surveys. They are, furthermore, tendencies, not general rules or universal generalizations. There are obviously many exceptions. But White Nationalism is the stuff of dreams anyway. So with that caveat, I think there is reason to believe that, if a racially conscious left arises again, it will be on the West Coast.

Good article Greg. I still wish that we (whites) could somehow hang on to the contiguous United States. Myself, I’m from Michigan. I do like it out west though.

I agree; losing the Pacific coast will be especially tragic. I love San Diego.
Perhaps it is nothing but idle fantasy, but sometimes I find myself thinking that if displacements and conflict are inevitable in the distant future, we might as well go “all in” and take back every square mile east/west and north/south. Although it might not happen, I see no reason why seizing as much territory as possible should not be the goal

While I agree that White consciousness needs to be hegemonic across the spectrum, I do not know how how one would even begin to radicalize the liberals. When Tim Wise wrote his genocidal screed, the liberals on the Daily Kos praised it with hundreds of favorable comments. The same screed, in contrast, was met with scathing anger and outrage on Free Republic. Moreover, Morris Dees, Mark Potok, Leonard Zeskind and other professional anti-White Jews rarely attack the far left in this country; on the contrary, they are constantly attacking and working to discredit the right, even though the right is not explicitly racial or close to it. This strikes me as evidence that the Jews are not worried about the emergence of White racial consciousness on the left but do see a potential threat on the aracial right.
You are definitely correct about the present circumstances. And raising the racial consciousness of White Leftists is definitely going to be an uphill battle. But the whole battle is uphill, and I still believe that we will not win as long as race is an issue of the right. A first step toward racializing the left is to look at history for examples like Kearney and London. There are many others out there. If something actually happened, it is ipso facto possible, and it can recur if the correct conditions are met. What are the conditions under which a racially conscious left might (re)emerge?
Greg, I don’t know, but I do think you are on target. The key conditions are probably whatever conditions lead them to an awareness that their values are not universal. From there, they would have to realize the things they care about like access to abortion, gay marriage and stewardship of the environment will never survive under a non-White hegemony. In a way, this is the key to radicalizing all Whites. They need to understand that whatever they want and care about, they will never get it unless Whites organize and struggle for power as Whites. But, those are political issues. Where the liberals are really killing us is on the cultural front (your speciality). In collaboration with the Jews, the liberals are the ones who pump out most of the cultural poison. A decisive shift in our favor among this group would be worth a million political activists and analytical essays. If you can win over just one talented screen writer and director with your CC project, it will help a lot.

One of the factors in the racialising of the left 150 years ago [or so] is that it was the ‘old left’. It was fighting for the working man. Not just any working man. A particular one—the white working man. Compare this to the current ‘right kind of white.’ Importing coolie labour to combat the ‘wrong kind of white.’
If we say that one of conditions for white racial consciousness on the left was the threat of non-white labour perhaps a version of this will be integral for the current white left. The ‘colour of crime’ comes to mind. However, this is problematic when noting their ‘lifestyle’ of gated communities. Yet, one can’t run and hide forever.
The above of course is only one condition, the most obvious in my mind. There are bound to have been many more of which I don’t even know of. A labour historian turned racialist could investigate this further. I know of at least one of those…
Great article! If ‘White Nationalism’ is ever to develop into anything serious it must break out of its conservative ghetto. It must also though avoid neo-nazism and associations with German National Socialism, a failed ideology from 70 years ago and completely irrelevant to the plight of European-Americans in the 21st century.
I am one of these people you speak of. We can crawl out of our leftist liberal pits and take our own side. Once I became racially aware and really looked at how good we have it in our white enclaves I became deprogrammed. The globalists are being obvious now so all these people who are halfway to being racially aware will come on board quick as it worsens. The social costs are huge to do so, but the truth always wins out. I just hope we don’t loose track of our real enemy, the globalists/Jews, while we get caught in race quagmires.
