What is it about disaster movies that we find so fascinating? In real life we do everything we possibly can to avoid being in a disaster, yet we can happily spend an hour or two watching people suffering in the most horrific situations on a screen. But this is also the very reason we love a good disaster movie: They remind us that we live in a broken, fallen world. Some disasters we bring on ourselves, some are inflicted on us by others, and others are what used to be called “acts of God.” (more…)

I was at one of my Twelve Step meetings the other day, and as happens to all such groups sooner or later, they are going through their “God is sexist” moment.
In case you don’t know, all the Twelve Step groups – Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, and a host of others – are “God-based” programs. (more…)

Jestliže se bělošským nacionalistům nepodaří zastavit a zvrátit stávající demografické trendy, bílá rasa vyhyne. Nakonec. V delším časovém horizontu.
To však představuje značný problém. (more…)

Most Americans’ lives, from cradle to grave, are spent immersed in clichés about “American values.” We are force-fed egalitarian propaganda and glutted with hyperbolic mythologies about historical people, places, and events. Few ever question the All-American operating system that their hard drives are programmed with, and fewer still find the courage to “buck the system.” (more…)

(more…)

What would politics be without sex scandals? Everyone knows lawmakers often engage in lurid affairs and try to keep their private lives out of the public eye. When they get caught, it’s front-page news and red meat for late-night comedy.
The latest political sex scandal is different from the past ones, however. It doesn’t feature a powerful man frequenting high-end hookers or jet-setting off with a hot young staffer. (more…)

So what are the greatest acoustic guitar intros in pop music? Not exactly a conundrum I’ve pondered much until I stumbled across Rick Beato’s YouTube channel. Beato is a musician and producer whose breadth of musical knowledge I admire. He likes to do lists, and during his greatest acoustic guitar intros video, I had a revelation. (more…)

Geoffrey Bache Smith, Tolkien’s Inspiration1,432 words
Dark is the world our fathers left us,
Wearily, greyly the long years flow,
Almost the gloom has hope bereft us,
Far is the high gods’ song and low:Sombre the crests of mountains lonely,
Leafless, wind-ridden, moan the trees;
Down in the valleys is twilight only.
Twilight over the mourning sea;Time was when earth was always golden,
Time was when skies were always clear;
Spirits and souls of the heroes olden,
Faint are cries from the darkness, hear! -

I was arrested to prevent me from delivering this talk at The Scandza Forum in Oslo on November 2, 2019. The Norwegian Security Police somehow divined — without knowing the topic or even the title — that this lecture would lead to political violence if delivered. Judge for yourself. For a fuller account of my arrest, see “Anarcho-Tyranny in Oslo.”
