I once knew this kid from Vietnam. We were both in our early twenties and we worked together in a rural area of the American South. He was nice enough, and we used to hang out a little despite not having much in common. (more…)

One of the advantages of reading biographies is that even if they’re not very good, there remains the consolation of having learned something. Sadly, this is one of the few positive things that can be said about the recent biopic Tolkien.
Biographies can be tricky to adapt for the screen. Filmmakers will want to adhere to the truth as much as possible while still being able to tell a coherent and thematic story. How much artistic license is too much? (more…)

The final installment of the massively profitable Avengers movie franchise, Endgame, offers three hours of superhero soap opera within a coherent, twisting, and surprisingly entertaining plot. Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely remain focused on leading us to a grand climax throughout the story while keeping the edge between wondering what will happen next and knowing what will happen next reasonably sharp. Unplanned has recently made a name for itself as an effective anti-abortion movie which has achieved success and popularity despite being suppressed by the Leftist media. It is an overtly Christian movie, based on a true story, and in many ways delivers what one would expect from a Christian movie: the pious characters, the constant sermonizing, the moral quandaries, the heartrending drama, and the inevitable redemption. Ever catch abuse from somebody famous? It’s not fun.
Last year, a fairly edgy and well-known conservative writer took me to task for something I had written. Basically, Omar revealed a powerful truth behind the support Israel enjoys in the US government – that it is more or less bought and paid for. (more…)

Years ago, my girlfriend and I attended a friend’s Hindu wedding. I remember all the colorful clothing and the strange dances and rituals the bride and groom performed. It was an enjoyable affair, but I have few specific memories of it. One from the reception, however, still stands out in my mind. I doubt I will ever forget it.

Part 2 of 3 (Part 1 here, Part 3 here)
In the first part of this series, I described my concerns for young people who identify as white and who are beginning to understand that they are being crowded out of the nations their ancestors had built for them. It’s an uncomfortable situation to be in, and will only get worse as white majorities continue to dwindle worldwide. (more…)

Jim Croce may be one of the most overlooked and underrated singer-songwriters of the rock era. This may be because his ideas often pre-date rock-‘n’-roll, and are in some ways anti-rock for eschewing themes pertaining to youth and rebellion. A cursory look at his best songs reveals that few songwriters are as adept at chronicling experiences which are uniquely and universally masculine. (more…)

The Republican Workers Party: How the Trump Victory Drove Everyone Crazy, and Why It Was Just What We Needed
New York: Encounter Books, 2018Any book that celebrates the 2016 election while denying the crucial role that race and ethnonationalism played in the rise of Donald Trump is just asking not to be taken seriously. (more…)
