The highly successful video game series has come to the big screen for the Christmas season. To the chagrin of the fanboys and fangirls, this is not a sword-and-sandals epic, despite being written by the team that created the unapologetically goyish retelling of the tale, Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014). That accounts for the fairly low review scores which tend to be in the range of 3-4 out of 10.

Anthony Mario Ludovici was born on January 8, 1882.

Translated by Guillaume Durocher
Translator’s Note: The following is an extract from Pierre Hadot’s excellent Qu’est-ce que la philosophie antique? (Paris: Gallimard, 1995, available in English as What is Ancient Philosophy?, pp. 381-84, under the heading “Philosophy as Servant of Theology.” The title is editorial.
Writing his Disputationes Metaphysicae in the last years of the sixteenth century, a work which would exert a considerable influence on many philosophers from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries, the scholastic author Francisco Suárez affirms:
American History X (1998)
Director: Tony Kaye
Writer: David McKenna
Stars: Edward Norton, Edward Furlong, Stacy Keach
Looking back at it, the 1998 film American History X might be a bit tricky from an Alt Right perspective. The story takes place during the mid-1990s and deals with a young Nazi skinhead whose time in prison forces him to reconsider his life. (more…)

Since the Alt Right tends to be a little extreme for the average pro-Trump blogger or supplements salesman, the loose collection of civic nationalists and cultural libertarians we’ve taken to calling the Alt Lite or Alt RINOs has started grasping for a label to give itself. (more…)
Alan Watts was born on this day in 1915. A prolific scholar and dazzling stylist, Watts is best known as the chief popularizer of Asian philosophy for the Beat and Hippy movements, but he was also an original thinker in his own right and a quiet man of the Right. (more…)

Nihilism: A Philosophy Based in Nothingness and Eternity
Colac, Australia: Manticore Press, 2016
The title of Brett Stevens’ new book, Nihilism: A Philosophy Based in Nothingness and Eternity, inclined me to think that this work would be in the same vein as other works of pessimist philosophy such as Thomas Ligotti’s The Conspiracy Against the Human Race, or Eugene Thacker’s Horror of Philosophy trilogy. 1. No More New Year’s Resolutions!
My readers know that each December I perform a solemn ritual: establishing ten resolutions (no more, no less) for the coming year. I have discussed this process elsewhere, and given advice on how to implement it yourself. In the past, I have formulated my resolutions well before the evening of December 31. This year, however, things did not go as planned.
There is a lot of confusion about the relationship of White Nationalism, the Alt Right, and the so-called Alt Light.
The “Alt Right” is a vague category that encompasses different tendencies of thought united by their rejection of mainstream conservatism. White Nationalism is one such tendency, and the Alt Light is another.
The Alt Light is defined by civic nationalism as opposed to racial nationalism. (more…)

Do you believe that you have the right to exist? Drexel University does not. This is one of the lessons from the recent furor that erupted after one of the school’s professors tweeted, “All I Want for Christmas is White Genocide.” By now you’ve probably heard something about it, but for those who have not, let me reiterate the details.
Assistant Professor George Ciccariello-Maher sent out that tweet on Christmas Eve. Then, on Christmas Day, he tweeted, “To clarify: when the whites were massacred during the Haitian revolution, that was a good thing indeed.” (more…)
We owe a great debt of gratitude to J. R. R. Tolkien, who embodied the medieval bardic tradition, and penned his epic tale in rebuke of mechanized modernity. I doubt even Tolkien could have predicted that some fifty years later, his story would look more like prophecy than fable. Then again, Tolkien probably sensed Europe had entered its twilight. The Great European Civil War of the twentieth century, which Tolkien fought in during its first phase, impressed upon him that modernity, with its unrelenting industry (capitalism) and hi-tech weaponry, was destroying the West.
