American History X

2,616 words

Director Tony Kaye’s anti-skinhead morality tale American History X (1998) is proof that propaganda is far from an exact science. Just as Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket caused a surge in Marine recruitment, American History X actually increases audience sympathies with neo-Nazi skinheads, despite its best efforts to present them as hateful hypocrites and losers.  Read more …

Asians Under Attack

A man defends his store from the roof during the 1992 LA riots.

1,336 words

Asians now fear walking the streets in San Francisco and Oakland. Locals continue to rob and assault them without warning. Assailants even target the elderly. The national media, which prefers to ignore crime waves, is horrified by this spate of attacks.

Left out of the coverage is the fact that pretty much all of the assailants are black. Instead, the attacks are blamed on whites, Donald Trump, and xenophobia. Read more …

Rush Limbaugh Remembered from the Right
(January 12, 1951–February 17, 2021)

Rush Limbaugh receives the Presidential Medal of Freedom, 2020.

1,694 words

Rush Limbaugh passed away from lung cancer Wednesday at the age of 70. No one did more to shape modern conservatism than the talk radio giant. Republican politicians bowed before him and sought his favor. Rush had the power to shape the opinions of millions, and one rant from him could scuttle a presidential candidacy or legislation. Blazing Saddles Comes to Wyoming

Phil Eiger Newmann, The Nu Sheriff, 2021.

1,444 words

As a bookish kid holed up in my bedroom, I used to pore over the family copy of the World Book Atlas of the World and found my interest especially piqued by desolate and depopulated areas. I was drawn to Canada’s Northwest Territories and Wyoming in the USA — I remember being fascinated that Wyoming had entire towns with only five residents. Read more …

Profound Insights for Troubled Times, Part II

April 1977 cover of Instauration.

3,326 words

Part I here

As the 1980s ended and the 1990s began, racial issues became more and more prevalent in the United States and around the world. Whites who could, of course, continued to move to the suburbs to avoid diversity and multiracialism. But it was becoming harder and harder to escape racial realities in a changing America. As always, Instauration offered clear-headed commentary on the unrelenting war against whites. Read more …

Millions of Dead Rappers

Phil Eiger Newmann, Stumpy G, 2021.

1,375 words

After the Atlanta-based one-hit hip-hop wunderkind who goes by the silly name of “Silento” was arrested and charged last week with murdering his cousin, his publicist referred to him as a “beautiful soul.”

To clarify, she wasn’t talking about the murdered cousin. She was talking about his accused killer, 23-year-old Ricky Lamar Hawk, a recording artist specialized in urban mating songs of the primitive call-and-response type. Read more …

To be young and white in America right now is to walk through life with a black cloud hovering over your head with every word you utter and every step you take.

One major cultural shift over the past generation is that except for a few isolated hills and hollers in Appalachia and the Ozarks, there is effectively no such thing as “poor white culture” anymore. Read more …

A Counter-Currents Writer Attends a Black Lives Matter Demonstration

Protest sign at a Black Lives Matter demonstration1,518 words

Oh, cruel irony of fate! I attended a Black Lives Matter demonstration just as the nation started to move into the holiday slumber. How did I get to such a point, you ask? I was visiting with family and one of the young ladies in my extended brood — driver’s permit age — had planned a demonstration near the town’s main thoroughfare.

The young lady’s mom and other relations deftly stepped away from any involvement in the affair, Read more …

As someone whose formal training is in journalism and who also likes to pretend that journalism at least still exists somewhere — even as a concept — I’ve bitten my lip bloody for five years as this “Black Lives Matter” chant has grown both ubiquitous and deafening, but not once have I heard a reporter do his job and say:

Since we live in a world dominated by white men — heck, even the rock-climbing world is “dominated by white men” — it’s odd to behold how openly hostile most of this world’s major institutions are toward white men.

Our objective news media has been warning us for years about the “far Right,” which is an extreme movement that is always on the rise and always threatening to erupt into cataclysmic violence, an ever-looming possibility that all People of Color must wrestle with, Read more …

The Only Honest Person in the Room

Donald Trump and Linda Lee Tarver

1,948 words

During the ongoing proceedings stemming from the fraudulent 2020 US presidential election, most of the actors involved have eschewed the topic of race. This is both good and bad. It’s good because if one side avers that race has been a decisive factor in this controversy, the other side would go ballistic and distract from the cases President Trump and his allies are bringing before the courts, the legislatures, and the American public. Black Gorilla Crime Syndicates

Phil Eiger Newmann, Gorilla, 2020.

Maybe it’s because I’m a racist, but I get intrigued when I hear that a part-time rapper who calls himself “Casanova” gets indicted on federal charges along with 17 other members of a street gang calling itself “Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation.”

Proof that I’m a racist is that I find it funny whenever black people refer to themselves as gorillas.

The Boondocks

1,959 words

HBO is planning a reboot of The Boondocks, an animated television series which ran from 2005 to 2014. Created by black cartoonist Aaron McGruder, the show was an interesting sociopolitical satire, lampooning blacks at least as much as whites. Although the series’ creator majored in the largely grievance-focused field of African American studies in college, it is not the unreflective blaming of whites for the problems of blacks that one might expect. The PJs was an animated television sitcom series that unfortunately ran for only three seasons, from 1999 to 2001. Who is Responsible for the Murder of Cannon Hinnant?

2,155 words

It happened on August 9th, a date that carries a lot of bad juju. It happened in Wilson County, North Carolina, which has a population of about seventy-five thousand. 55.83% white, 39.33% black. Median income $33,000. Of households with children, less than half are married couples. 16.5% have a female householder with no husband present; 30.9% are “non-families” (presumably, non-married couples). Opioid overdose fatalities have tripled in Wilson since 2012. In short, it is a poor county with all the attendant social problems that now plague rural America. Read more …
