Announcing the Decameron Film Festival 2022: Exploring the Magic of Movie Mind Control
Fróði MidjordThe film festival has already started, but there’s still time for you to get on board! On April 14th we launched the third edition of the Decameron Film Festival with a lineup of 29 guests who will be discussing great films every day for a month.
Why are these film discussions important? Because nothing is more powerful than culture, and no form of culture is more powerful than film.
You could argue that institutions of finance, the government, or the military are more powerful than culture, but I would respond that all of those institutions are ruled by culture. In fact, even the most powerful people in the world are ruled by culture.
This is a theme that I discussed with Morgoth yesterday while talking about Natural Born Killers (1994), a film that explores how the media blurs the line between entertainment and reality.
A fun fact for readers of this site is that, reportedly, Quentin Tarantino was inspired by Counter-Currents writer Jim Goad when writing the story for Natural Born Killers:
Quentin Tarantino has claimed his initial inspiration for the film came after reading the highly controversial magazine Answer Me! The two writers of the magazine, Jim and Debbie Goad, were a controversial married couple that blurred the lines between satire and reality. Creating works such as the Hate Issue. The Rape Issue. And the Murder Issue.
Upcoming episodes include Greg Johnson on David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia (1962), John Morgan on Lars von Trier’s Europa (1991), Mark Weber on Gone with the Wind (1939), Ricardo Duchesne on Andrei Tarkovsky’s Andrei Rublev (1966), and much more.
I first started the Decameron Film Festival in April 2020, when the COVID lockdowns began (hence the name), and it was intended as a one-off festival. But it turned out to be so popular that we’re now back for our third year in a row! And I invite you to join us.
Today I’m going to talk to Millennial Woes about The Secret Garden (1993).
