It claims to be a black comedy but Big Fan
is a horror movie. There are no supernatural creatures or masked serial killers, though there is violence and torture. The violence comes from the savage beating of the white protagonist by a black athlete. The torture is the characters enduring a vision of American life infinitely darker than American Beauty. There is no redemption, no one learns anything from the experience, and worst (or best) of all, you can’t help but laugh. (more…)
