The Wuhan Institute of Virology was in large part financed by the American taxpayer via the National Institutes of Health and EcoHealth Alliance and worked, Kennedy is sure, in collaboration with the Chinese military. He writes

Since the WIV only thinly veils its links to the People’s Liberation Army, both Dr. Fauci and Dr. Daszac and the spooks at USAID must have known that the WIV is the centerpiece of China’s biowarfare/biodefense program. The State Department issued a fact sheet in May 2020 revealing that the Chinese Communist Party had engaged in a national strategy of military-civil fusion intended to eliminate barriers between civilian research and the Chinese military in order to achieve military dominance.

There was, it seems, no distinction between civilian and military research in China. If that is so, and if the WIV research was to create an enhanced pathogen, then Fauci’s and Daszac’s contribution to the research is treasonable.

Daszac has stated under oath that he was unaware of any civil-military collaboration at Wuhan. Readers will judge for themselves whether they consider it likely that the Chinese military diplomatically looked the other way while gain-of-function research was conducted at the WIV. Apart from that, Daszac himself admitted to the NIH that he would not be able to hand over requested laboratory notebooks, electronic files and other unpublished data relating to his research at Wuhan because his Chinese partners would not release his data.

The impasse forced NIH to acknowledge that the bioweapons research it was funding was entirely under the control of the Chinese government, which refused to share the findings of both Chinese and US scientists with their NIH funders.

EcoHealth Alliance called experiments for which it requested and received NIH funding “Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence.” As Gary Ruskin, executive director of the consumer group “US Right to Know” commented: “This is a road map to the high risk research that could have led to the current pandemic.”

When the Chinese government reluctantly admitted in 2020 that the “new virus” was being transmitted person to person in China, the leading grant recipient in China and Daszac’s close collaborator, Shi Zhengli, had an article in Nature published titled, “Pneumatic Outbreak Associated with a new Coronavirus of Probable Bat Origin.” She had nothing to say however about a possible connection between her own work on bats at Wuhan and the outbreak of a new type of SARS Covid virus. She in an interview for Science magazine in 2020 she vigorously denied a connection, saying

U.S. President Trump’s claim that SARS-CoV-2 was leaked from our institute totally contradicts the facts[…] It jeopardizes and affects our academic work and personal life. He owes us an apology.

The virologist who contributed most to the theoretical aspects of the research at Wuhan was Ralph Baric of the University of South Carolina. By his own admission online he has “spent the past three decades as a world leader in the study of coronaviruses”. Baric was also, according to Kennedy, “Dr. Fauci’s most lavishly supported gain-of-function beneficiary.” Financial awards by the NIAID to Baric included an award in June 2013, worth $10.5 million for a five year published under the title “Characterization of Novel Genes Encoded by RNA and DNA viruses.” By 2023, says Kennedy, Baric had received 186 grants from NIH/NIAID totaling $215 million. Baric, who has been a major link between American and Chinese gain-of-function research, is an expert in the genetic engineering of pathogens. He filed a patent on engineered spike protein in 2015. He and his university worked in partnership with Gilead scientists to create a “broad spectrum” anti viral called remdesevir, which was widely applied during the years of the pandemic, in the view of Children Health Defense, with disastrous consequences. The Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation is a major stakeholder in Gilead Sciences. Kennedy quotes Baric’s own words from a paper available online called “Synthetic Viral Genomics: Risks and Benefits for Science and Society”:

Tools exist for simultaneously modifying the genomes for increased virulence, immunogenicity, transmissability, host range and pathogenesis. Moreover, these approaches can be used to molecularly resurrect extinct human and animal pathogens, like the 1918 human influenza virus.

Readers may never look at Jurassic Park the same way again.

In a paper entitled “Development of Mouse Hepatitis Virus and SARS-CoV Infections cDNA constructs” Baric described a concealment technique he had developed for installing “full length infectious constructs” that create new and infectious coronaviruses using a fine tuned no-see’m technology” . Baric boasted that researchers could conceal evidence of human alteration by using his method. This is how it is done in Baric’s words:

After restriction digestion and ligation, the foreign sequences are inserted into the backbone sequence at any given nucleotide, leaving no evidence of the restriction sites that were used to “sew” the new sequences into the MHV (Mouse hepatitis virus) backbone.

However, in 2022 researchers from Duke University and the Würzburg clinic in Germany revealed that human intervention could be detected and furthermore evidence of manipulation was found in the SARS.CoV-2 genome.

Put simply, this points to Covid-19 as a man made construct based on new methods of viral manipulation.

Baric is the scientist who solved the challenge of culturing coronaviruses. He was able to generate huge numbers of identical particles “enabling the potential production of stocks that were ideal launchpads for pandemics.” In 2013 Zhengli and Daszac managed to culture a bat like SARS coronavirus that could infect human beings by using the so-called ACE2 (angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 )receptor. The Covid-19 coronavirus was highly infectious owing to the existence of a furin cleavage site on the SARS-CoV-2 spike. Angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 is one of the most important receptors on the cell membrane of the host cells and its interaction with spike protein (SP) with a furin cleavage site enables a SARS-CoV-2 invasion.

This is a brief summary of a subject which Kennedy examines in detail. The takeaway from his book is that Baric provided the know how, Zhengli the practical work. Daszac the networking and Fauci the funding, their efforts culminating in the successful creation of an altered SARS-CoV-2 virus which met the criteria to be described as a fully functional bioweapon. A pathogen which need have been of little concern to mankind had been altered to enhance its pathogenesis, its infectiousness, its host range, and its virulence.

Kennedy writes:

Working closely with the Chinese military scientists during the first decades of the millennium, NIAID and US military and intelligence agencies spent millions of dollars on research to modify the spike protein of coronaviruses to infect humans, teaching the germs to bind to human receptors and to evade immune defenses. By cobbling together the pieces of wild viruses, NIAID funded scientists.. successfully engineered chimeric viruses to infect and inflict mass casualties in humans.

But never mind, writes Kennedy, it might have been far worse.

Dr. Quay outlines in congressional testimony the compelling evidence suggesting that in 2020 the Wuhan lab was experimenting with Nipah. The Nipah virus is one of the world’s deadliest diseases, with a 60% fatality rate….A laboratory-acquired infection with a modified Nipah virus would make the COVID-19 pandemic look like a walk in the park.

Although lengthy, this review has only touched on the main charges leveled by the author against many authorities and organizations. The fundamental conclusion is that the Covid pandemic resulted from gain-of-function bioweapon research in China funded in large part by the American tax payer.

The book closes with these relatively optimistic words:

As we emerge from the smoke of the COVID wreckage, I observe newly energized independent journalists rising to the challenge of unbiased reporting while their legacy media counterparts cower and issue copy-and-paste narratives dictated by their pharmaceutical overlords. These brave truth seeking independent journalists, fueled by the support of their readers, may have the power to draw the necessary public attention to activate the peoples’ will in tearing down the medical/military industrial domination over individual freedoms.

We, the people, hold in our hands the power to choose which future becomes our reality and that of generations to come. Let us use that power wisely.

Not only on the subject of the work at the WIV but on a wide range of subjects, what can be called “legacy” or “establishment” sources of information, including Wikipedia and professional journals, seem religiously attached to an interpretation of events which favors the powerful, the wealthy, the established and the orthodox. In the case of both aspects of the Covid pandemic, the origin and the measures taken to contain it, it is hard to distinguish public relations from propaganda. The Covid saga has widened an anyway growing rift between those who are now distrustful of all authority, not least scientific authority, and those for whom it is “all too much” and avoid so much as discussion of contentious subjects such as the origins of Covid-19. Official channels of communication offer a narrative but no debate. The author of this book is regarded with skepticism, cynicism and hostility by vested interests and media which speak for those interests, but to this reviewer’s knowledge Kennedy has not been challenged to debate by those who maintain that the work at Wuhan was innocent and/or the funding justified.

The book concludes with a hope but with no prediction, still less a plan. Many questions remain unanswered. They include: what can be done to make reporting on scientific research more transparent? What can be done to halt gain-of-function research or at the very least make it transparent and accountable, financially and ethically and why do gain-function laboratories continue to operate in the United States without appropriate scrutiny? Why do established media around the world continue to pour scorn on the character and efforts of the writer of this book to enact measures to restore the immunity of the American population? Perhaps most important of all-what is being done, what should be done, to prevent another pandemic? In view of the immense wealth and profits which the pandemic brought to a minority, there are good reasons to fear that certain groups would welcome a repetition.

The copious information provided in this detailed book should serve to arm those who read it with facts to strengthen the case that very radical measures should be taken to prevent another Covid like epidemic. Politicians around the world obviously want people to regard Covid as “just history” but regarding the pandemic as “just history” means that people have not learned from it and are powerless to prevent a recurrence. This sorry saga should not be allowed to rest, neither at a public nor individual level. It can only begin to come to rest when the likes of Fauci, Baric and Daszac answer to the extremely grave and plausible charges leveled against them by Kennedy in this book, not just before a panel or committee or a Congress hearing, but before a court of law.
