Spain’s Modern-Day, Taxpayer-Funded Reconquest by the Muslims

Up until this month, if you had said the words “Salt Riots” to the average Spaniard, the only bell it would have rang would have been amongst specialist historians of the Early Modern Period, aware of long-forgotten disturbances in the Province of Biscay between 1631 and 1634 over the excessive, state-mandated increase in the price of the once-valuable condiment in question. Today, however, the phrase “Salt Riots” possesses a whole new currency, as referring to a series of violent religious-racial disturbances taking place in mid-March throughout the small Catalan town of Salt, just outside the larger and more well-known city of Girona.

Events began when a supposedly “vulnerable” black African Muslim imam named Kalilu Diwara was evicted from his home in Salt on Friday 7 March for what was initially portrayed by his sympathizers as no good reason, but which later transpired to be for the trifling actual reason of his illegally squatting there without bothering to pay any rent for the past five years. Thinking he and his family had an innate right to live there off the largesse of the Spanish taxpayer nonetheless, on the evening of Monday 10 March, Diwara attempted to break back inside to occupy the residence once again, triggering off an alarm set by the landlord and summoning police, who promptly gave him a new roof over his head for the night inside their cells.

Alerted, a mob of around 200 people, both imported Muslim migrants and native Spanish leftists, soon gathered around Salt’s police station, throwing stones and eggs. Riot police units had to be deployed to try to control the situation, which spilled out into wider riots the following evening, when cops were attacked, and both private and public property and infrastructure were vandalized and set on fire.

Despite the whole thing being organized by an unholy alliance of immigrants and the far-left, the response of the local council, led by the left-wing Catalan separatist party ERC, was to hand the imam over a unit of “free” (re: taxpayer-funded) social housing immediately, even though he didn’t meet the usual eligibility criteria, in order to avoid “fueling the far-right”, by which they meant the perfectly mainstream anti-separatist, anti-immigration, anti-EU party VOX. So, a town burns at the hands of Muslims and Marxists, and the official political response is to give in to the criminals’ demands, because otherwise continuing race-riots may make the area’s leading anti-immigration outfit look as they might have a certain point to their rather sensible policy positions after all.

Being leftists, the main public rhetoric from Salt’s ERC council was to question the role of evil capitalist banks, investment funds, and landlords in evicting poor innocent immigrants from “their” homes. Rent evidently being a white man’s custom, it would be culturally inappropriate to expect black Africans ever to have to pay.

This has all upset many of the town’s traditional inhabitants – i.e., actual Spanish people – who, having to perform time-honored acts such as waiting their turn to get on public housing-lists, paying their rent, and generally just obeying the law, began to perceive that they now appeared to be laboring under the auspices of a classic two-tier justice system. The more historically aware amongst them might even have realized that was a bit like in the bad old days of al-Andalus, that bleak period of Islamic colonization of Spain by the invading Moors between 711 and 1492, when Christians, Jews and others living there all had to pay their extra taxes, knuckle down, and accept the official status of inferior, second-class dhimmi citizens under the rule of their foreign overlords.

The Pain in Spain Falls Mainly on the Plain

You can see why Salt’s rightful plain-skinned white residents may have arrived at the above conclusion. A pathetic six arrests were made during the mass violence, but this did not prevent some of the hundreds of rioters from openly making gloating observations like the following: “We are in Salt, look at everything we have destroyed, we have closed the streets, no-one can leave Salt. This is the fifth time the police follow me and I still do not enter the police station [under arrest].”

According to the local Tenants’ Union, the whole thing was an organic uprising of Salt’s downtrodden proletariat, sick of the capitalist kulak landlords’ insistence upon actually profiting from their business, rather than just randomly handing out people properties for free and then letting them live unmolested in them for five straight years without objecting. With landlords’ current cruel policy of charging money in return for services rendered, it was “difficult to understand” why there were not “continuous clashes” of this kind with the police every single night, the Union said.

Demand for housing locally was high, allowing greedy rentiers to push their prices up, leaving helpless families like the poor imam’s out freezing on the street, it was implied. The Tenants’ Union curiously did not mention, however, the minor demographic detail that, today, Salt is now a town of some 77 different nationalities (one of them might even be Spanish!), where 38 percent of the population are classed as being immigrants. As Salt’s official population is 34,000, that would seem to indicate that 12,920 of the current population have been artificially imported into the area; meanwhile, a disturbing 75.7 percent of births in the town are now to foreign parents. Simple common sense would suggest all this might just have something more to do with Salt’s present day housing crisis than the existence of the quaint old Catalan custom of people normally having to reach into their own pockets and actually pay for things, because that’s how economies work.

It appears bussed in Spanish leftists, rather than local migrants, were most to blame for the riots in Salt, the far-left Sindicat de L’Habitage being identified by some news sources for pursuing a wider campaign against property rights and capitalism in general under the convenient cover of ‘combating racism’. The ERC council then gladly joined in too, demanding major landlords in Salt hand over their rightful properties to be transformed into social housing, largely for Muslims and Africans; otherwise, the “far-right” VOX party would triumph. Thus, we can see the practical political benefit to Catalan Leftists of facilitating mass immigration into the region, as they have been doing: in an era in which ‘anti-racism’ is now constantly propagandized as being the great moral lodestone to live one’s entire life by, invoking its magic name in order to dismantle capitalism under its disingenuous rhetorical cover provides an excellent disguise for one’s real motives, and a handy shield from most mainstream media criticism.

This simple tactic gives today’s PR-wise leftist radical complete carte blanche to denounce evictions of squatters in general, whilst calling landlords racist and Islamophobic in particular for kicking out a defaulting black imam. According to the Sindicat de L’Habitage, the fact that tenants booted out by landlords are disproportionately foreigners is a sign of “institutional racism”; a more rational explanation might possibly be that sponging foreigners like the freeloading imam are those most likely not to pay their rent, but rationality never has been the left’s strong point.

In the Catalan Parliament, meanwhile, left-wing Catalan politicians help out further by openly siding with the rioting Muslims. As is well known, the Catalonia region of Spain has a large political constituency agitating for independence from Spain as a whole, and artificial foreign imports have become enlisted as a useful tool for helping achieve this. One of the main Catalan independence parties is the CUP, whose MP, Laure Vega, an “anti-fascist” feminist and proponent of a free Universal Basic Income for all, stood up in Parliament and openly applauded those who were throwing stones at police by repeating the sarcastic words of a local comedian, Manel Vidal.

As many pro-independence Catalans view the police force as a whole as being oppressive agents of Madrid, there is a tradition of regional antagonism towards them. Thus, when Vidal saw the immigrants attacking cops with stones, he congratulated them for thereby demonstrating “your full integration” with Catalan culture and tradition, hailing them as an “example” for all the backwards white natives to follow. By parroting Vidal’s words, Vega both legitimated future Muslim uprisings against the Spanish police force, and acted to misleadingly cover up the fact the main true agitators here were actually extreme leftists, not immigrants, whose role appeared somewhat secondary, being seemingly orchestrated by the Marxists. So, now the presence of black Africans and brown Muslims in the area gives infantile white leftists yet another excuse to riot against The System with express public political approval in Parliament – great!

The police union USPAC subsequently lodged an official complaint against Vega, demanding she be suspended from Parliament and fined 12,000 euros, in accordance with standard regulations, for making a statement that “legitimizes” and “glorifies” violence, whilst another union, SICPOL, sarcastically took Vega at her word and encouraged sane parliamentarians to begin hurling rocks at her own head if she liked seeing that kind of thing so much.

USPAC then went further, blaming the left-wing pro-independence politicians for the wider situation in Salt, which they characterized as a “lost city”, but certainly not one like El Dorado. They said the place had degenerated into a “powder keg” with conditions “more typical of a Third World country” than of a normal Spanish city any more – hardly surprising, as it was now full of Third World people. The recent riots were but “the tip of the iceberg” and a mere homeopathic-level “prelude” to the far greater immigrant-led waves of violence that were clearly in store for the place, said USPAC, and which had been brewed by the politicians themselves with their years of “cowardice and hypocrisy”.

Homage to Catatonia

Riots then spread to other Third World settlements in the area, such as Mataró, a city of 130,000 residents, many of them also colonizers from distant climes, who have successfully created several no-go areas for police and true locals in the settlement. The blame for this sudden Reverse-Reconquista was accurately laid by one unnamed resident as lying at the feet of “the politicians who live in a fantasy world”.

But what, precisely, is the nature of this fantasy world? We have seen above why the radical left might wish to encourage the mass immigration of outsiders into Catalonia in order to abolish capitalism, but why would Catalan separatist parties wish to collude in this self-destructive measure too, thereby sleepwalking themselves into inhabiting a future outpost of a neo-Caliphate, not a truly independent Catalan state at all? Granted, most of them are leftist organizations themselves, but, traditionally, the separatists have naturally stood up for regional people and their sacred traditions in the face of what they see as cultural oppression and marginalization from Madrid. Why would they be happy to see their own race replaced in their own homeland?

Bizarrely, it is because the traditional source of immigrants into Spain, namely Latin and South America, provided incomers who were considered far too capable of becoming well-integrated. As Latinos spoke Spanish, due to being from former possessions of the former New World Spanish Empire, they arrived straight off the boat familiar with Spanish cultural traditions and able and willing to speak the national language, as spoken countrywide. As such, should they stay long enough to gain citizenship, they were deemed unlikely to wish to vote for Catalan independence in the future.

Instead, Catalan separatist parties began actively encouraging culturally incompatible foreigners to begin pouring into the region, primarily from the Muslim world, particularly North Africa and Pakistan. As such people did not arrive being able to speak Spanish, they could be taught to speak the local patois of Catalan instead, the spreading of this regional tongue amongst the populace being a key political aim of the separatists. Then, when the next vote for independence came, those Muslims who had achieved citizenship would be more likely to be primed to vote for the separatist movement, it was thought – not only because they remained linguistically and culturally alienated from Madrid, but also because the comatose separatists promised to keep on throwing the floodgates open ever wider to let in more and more of what they considered to be useful client voters. VOX has put out an entire cautionary documentary about what such a continued process will inexorably ultimately lead to, Towards the Islamic Republic of Catalonia.

As a result, Catalonia today has the highest percentage Muslim population in all of Spain … and the highest percentage of foreign prisoners, foreign crime rates, and foreign jihadists too. And the highest rates of illegal squatting as well, funnily enough; half of all squatting in Spain currently takes place in Catalonia. There are a lot more rapes there than there used to be too. There always are.

In a 2024 interview, Alberto Tarradas, a VOX Member of the Catalan Parliament, explained the totally counterproductive results of this systematic program of what he accurately called “demographic substitution”:

The separatists who are so concerned about defending what is Catalan are not concerned that there are streets where there is not a single sign in Catalan, not a single Spanish shop, or where none of our languages are spoken [just Arabic, Urdu, etc] … It is not only a question of insecurity; it is also a loss of identity. We were in Salt this week, and the community festivals are the Muslim ones—they are no longer ours. In Girona, almost half of the births are not Spanish; we are talking about demographic substitution and loss of identity. Separatism only defends its business, not Catalanness.

And what is the “business” of separatism? Winning votes for separatism, even if the replacement voters imported to achieve this goal later end up colonizing the region anew. It is like the reported old line about US military conduct during the Vietnam War: “We had to destroy the village in order to save it.” Except, instead of a mere village, it’s now an entire region which has to be napalmed into “salvationary” oblivion.

Perhaps the most emblematic illustration of this trend came exactly a decade ago, in 2014, when, prior to one of Catalonia’s periodic independence neverendums, officials from Catalonia’s then-ruling CiU alliance made local mass-imported Muslims a tacit, behind-closed-doors offer: vote for independence, and we’ll give you your own mega-mosque, the third-largest such edifice in the world, in fact.

The promised mega-mosque was not to be built from scratch, however. Instead, it was to be constructed by converting, both architecturally and religiously, a disused bullfighting arena in Catalonia’s capital city of Barcelona, named La Monumental. Being good leftists, the separatists had outlawed the time-honored sport in the region in the name of the far greater modern-day cause of animal rights in 2012; apparently, they deemed bull-fighting ‘too Spanish’, unlike Islam. Another age-old Spanish tradition which didn’t matter to the leftists anymore was Christianity. The twisting spires of Barcelona’s still-unfinished cathedral, La Sagrada Familia, were due to be completely overshadowed by the proposed mega-mosque’s 985-foot minaret, thereby demonstrating which religion was to be the real boss in the city from now on.

Allegedly due to be funded to the tune of $3 billion by Qatar, the mosque would dominate Barcelona in every respect; with space for 40,000 worshippers within an interior space, and a further 80,000 out in an open-air arena, it would enjoy an even larger capacity than Barcelona FC’s massive 100,000-seat Camp Nou soccer stadium. As the state-owned Qatar Airways were Barcelona FC’s then-main shirt-sponsors, this effectively meant the Emirate would be funding both the area’s new main actual religion of Islam, and its rival secular faith of professional soccer. The proposed structure would have been so big it would still have space to house a Koranic study center, a conference room for Islamic scholars, and even a museum of Islamic art and history – that is to say, a probable triumphalist tribute to the glorious days of al-Andalus, in both its past and present-day incarnations.

And yet, according to allegations at the time, the only real concern of the CiU and other such parties was who the Qataris would end up handing some of the lucrative construction contracts over to; namely, they wanted them to be Catalan-based firms, not ones from elsewhere in Spain, particularly not the hated Madrid. So, in short-sighted and short-termist pursuit of both profit and (temporary) political independence, the alleged champions of the Catalan race were willing to sell their own people straight down the Euphrates or the Tigris in the long-term.

As Mowafak Kanfach, head of the Catalan Islamic Federation, had it, Barcelona residents “would have to be proud that Muslims transformed the pain of the bulls into a spiritual center.” In other words, the locals should just shut up, and accept and be “proud” that their own historic culture and civilization was being replaced wholesale with a completely alien but obviously far more morally advanced one, with the explicit aid of their own quisling leaders. In the end, whilst the 2014 independence referendum was won by the Yes side, it held no actual legal weight, and so the mega-mosque was thankfully never constructed. It is a curious thought that, if the region had legally voted for “independence” [sic], it would currently have been lumbered with a giant looming physical symbol of its consequent inevitable forthcoming subservience towards Islam.

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

A leaked police report from 2014 found that, should Catalonia indeed achieve full independence at present, it would have the third largest number of Muslims as a percentage of the general population in all of Europe. The Spanish police’s assessment of the matter was that local Salafist leaders would actively like this to occur, because then they would be well on their way to eventually establishing their own Sharia mini-state in the middle of mainland Europe without even having to expend any Muslim lives on trying to establish it by military conquest, as in the days of the Moors.

One Catalan Salafist preacher, Abdelwahab Houzi, was reported as openly admitting to his flock that:

We have to take advantage of the separatists because they rely on us to get votes, but what they do not know is that, once they allow us to vote, we will all vote for Islamic parties because we do not think about left and right. This will make us win mayoralties and … Islam will begin to be implemented.

But, for any concerned native Catalan to repeat Houzi’s words in slightly rephrased fashion as an act of warning to their fellow citizens about what the Salafists are up to appears to now be a criminal offence in the area. Last year, anti-immigration politician Silvia Orriols was fined 10,000 Euros by Catalonia’s leftist-run Department of Equality and Feminism (first Ministry for the chop under Sharia, one would think) for observing the following in a 2022 TV interview:

I believe that allowing the mass entry of Muslim immigrants is a mistake for which we could pay dearly, because basically Muslims do not recognize European democracies or our civil laws. They are governed by Sharia law, and when Sharia law supporters become the demographic majority, they can run for office and win at the polls, and therefore impose Sharia law, misogyny, and homophobia on the entire population. I don’t want this in my house, not for my children, not for my grandchildren.

Abdelwahab Houzi plots to do this for real, and nothing happens to him. Silvia Orriols seeks to expose this crime, and is herself treated as the criminal. By alleged “feminists.” Ironically, Catalonia’s Department of Equality and Feminism was at the time of Orriols’ fine run by a woman named Tània Verge, a Gender Studies professor who appears to be a walking argument against the whole notion of female suffrage in the first place – perhaps that’s why she’s so keen on sucking up to the Salafists?

Despite running a public campaign to encourage Catalan women to walk around topless in public, thereby to “fight against discrimination against women”, Verge also publicly campaigned against the deportation of a notorious Moroccan Salafist (and self-styled ‘anti-racism campaigner’) named Mohamed Said Badaoui, despite the politically influential Badaoui’s own competing publicity campaign to force women to wear the veil. Is Verge really so blind as to be unable to see the self-evident contradiction in her opinions here? Maybe she just hoped for a halfway-house compromise between the two positions, in which local females walked around with their faces safely covered but their tits hanging freely out, in the rough spirit of the late Maurice Bowra. [1]

Many Muslims still consider the former lands of al-Andalus to be their rightful property, arguing Islamic law gives them the right to return there and re-establish their forefathers’ rule. Memes like the following are common on Islamist social media:Mr Alkhalidiye doesn’t appear to be far wrong here, does he? The Islamists do indeed seem to have an entire army of fifth columnists ready and waiting inside al-Andalus – sorry, Catalonia – these days. The bemusing thing is, to judge by events currently playing themselves out in raped, immigration-ruined towns like Salt, their main leaders at present appear to be white, and not Muslim.

What, exactly, is the point of Catalonia achieving sovereignty from Madrid, before immediately then ceding it straight back over towards the far harsher yoke of Mecca instead?
