I love Conan the barbarian, but I will agree it’s not entirely authentic to Howard’s Conan. How is this movie marred by Hollywood irony? I don’t really see how it’s ironic at all. There is some camp humor, but that exists in Howard too. Conan the destroyer may be slightly more true to Howard’s Conan, actually. But that’s certainly a lower level of film.
Conan the barbarian is waaay better than the lotr movies, which are only less bad than the hobbit movies. I prefer to watch the old Tolkien cartoons from the 80s. You’d have to sit me there like on clockwork orange to watch the movies again.
