The Counter-Currents 2013 Summer Fundraiser
Reasons for Optimism

Greg Johnson
George Frederick Watts, "Hope"

George Frederick Watts, “Hope”

594 words

Since our last update, we have received fifteen new donations totaling $1,605. Our total so far is $14,376.50. Our goal is to raise $50,000 by October 31, so we are $35,623.50 away from our goal. That is a lot to raise, but we have the time. The conventional wisdom is that summer is the slowest season for White Nationalist activism and fundraising, although our web traffic has remained steady. The pace of giving will quicken once we pass Labor Day.

Three of these donations were the first of monthly pledges, which is one of the best ways to help Counter-Currents grow. (More details are available on our donate page.) I want to thank these recent donors, and all of our other donors — past, present, and ongoing.

* * *

Today I worked on typesetting and cover texts for our next book by Leo Yankevich, Journey Late at Night: Poems and Translations. Reading the glowing blurbs for this volume from recognized mainstream poets and artists underscores just how lucky Counter-Currents is to be publishing Leo, who is one of the greatest living poets in English.

Tito Perdue is another artist of similar stature. I believe him to be America’s finest living novelist. Although his early novels were published by mainstream presses to acclaim in the mainstream media, the dramatic intensification of Political Correctness eventually forced Tito to pursue alternative publishers like Nine-Banded Books, Arktos, Washington Summit Publishers — and, cross your fingers — Counter-Currents as well.

Earlier this week, I re-read the depressing tale of how Leni Riefenstahl, one of the greatest film directors of all time, was effectively prevented from working again due to a half-century of Jewish vilification, screamed from front pages and whispered in back rooms. The throttling of Riefenstahl’s talent was the artistic crime of the 20th century. But after the Second World War, there simply was no alternative cultural space and infrastructure to allow her genius to express itself on film.

In one of his last lectures, Jonathan Bowden reflected on the necessity of creating counter-cultural spaces where the creative greatness of our people can flourish again:

I’m quite certain that great works are being written now, are being performed now in the minds of certain individuals, are being conceptualized now, but they don’t have an outlet at this time. The point of groups like the New Right on the Continent, here, and in North America — particularly in California, on the far side of the United States — is to create the mental space whereby greatness can come back into culture. Is to create the mental space for higher works of civilization again.

It’s not necessarily to provide those works. That’s not its purpose. Its purpose is to provide the space that exists for them. Because if a people cannot affirm itself through great works, it begins to die . . .

Jonathan was, of course, talking about Counter-Currents out here on the far side of the United States. It is our mission to provide an outlet for creative geniuses suppressed by the mainstream. Yankevich and Perdue, I believe, are the first of many such refugees who will come our way as white dispossession intensifies. Counter-Currents needs to be there for them.

That’s why I need you to be there for us. Please make a donation today. If you were planning to give to our fundraiser this year, now is the best time. If you have already given, please give again.

You can visit our Donate page here.

Thank you for your continued readership and support.

Greg Johnson
Editor-in-Chief

I increased my monthly donation from $20.00 to $30.00 this year. Next year I plan to increase it to $40.00 per month. A little more each year as I can afford it; keep up the good work.
