Interesting! Mathematicians have high ability, ie lots of gray matter, but sometimes seem to have low general intelligence because all their neuron tissue is recruited to one highly analytical activity. They’re similar to chess players and musicians in this way. Also, with these sorts of people, math ability becomes a sort of moral virtue. It’s prized above all other considerations, so that other negative qualities like being a bad person or even a rapist or something are irrelevant compared with math ability. This is why Kazinski was so screwed up. He couldn’t see himself as morally bad so long as he was good at math.
as another example, I had some friends who were really good at chess when they were young, up-and-coming players. At this big international tournament, they met a famous Soviet GM in the hallway. He invited them to lunch. When they sat down, he asked one what his rating was, which was very high and he said “wow you’re gonna be good”. He asked the other one, who was high rated, but not as impressive, and he turned away without saying anything and directed all his conversation at the higher rated player for the rest of the time. The lower rated kid lost all human worth in his mind!
Thats the ethics of those folk. Magneto sort of symbolizes this ethics in the X-Men movies, if you listen closely. It makes sense, though, to them the highest good or the highest goal of life is mathematics.
ps, do you guys like hearing these off topic things? I like to philosophize a little.
Let me explain what the Real ID is all about.
Back in the 1990s when Arizona kicked off the modern immigration revolt, the Liberal counter-argument was “what does an Illegal Alien look like, Mr. Bigot?” The Left claimed that Brown people would be unfairly “profiled” by Immigracion and by every Cracker beat cop.
The correct answer was that to get an Arizona driver’s license in those days (post-1996) you already had to either show your immigration documents or your Birth Certificate, so this was sufficient ID to show U.S. Citizenship and okay immigration status for most purposes.
Therefore, no “profiling” is involved at all. You either are a U.S. Citizen or you are not, and the documentation is easy: Your AZ driver’s license. Sure, a passport and birth certificate or residency papers is better, but most people don’t have those on them if they are not doing international travel.
In Arizona, when a police officer stops somebody and they do not have a driver’s license (probably because they are an undocumented Illegal Mexican national) then they will be arrested on the spot if they were operating a motor vehicle. Often the hapless illegal alien will flee (or try to) if they are involved in an accident, so hit-and-runs are common with a certain Illegal Alien demographic. (They also tend to not enter Freeway on-ramps correctly so often get involved in head-on collisions. I don’t know if controlled-access highways are a thing in Mexico or not.)
Now, the documentation PROBLEM is brilliantly solved by the Star ID because previously NOT ALL STATES checked things like birth certificates or immigration documents to obtain a basic driver’s license or a state-issued ID card.
Before Real ID, states like New Mexico, for example, fit into this category of only needing to be a stateless warm body (with some driving skill hopefully) and a local mailing address to qualify to drive.
So now, the driver’s licenses or identification in ALL states complies with Citizenship or immigration documentation with the Star logo emblazoned on it. That is the main benefit of Real ID.
The fact that either a Passport or Real ID is now required to fly domestically is only icing on the cake.
I’m not a fan of TSA, but the real problem all along with the security or lack thereof leading to 9/11 was that literally anybody with an interest in U.S. tourism could take a break from Jihadi bomb-making class and enter the country with minimal documentation.
For example, at the Mexican border about thirty years ago all the Border Patrol did was ask you where you were born. Most Beaners were either honest with their answer or else did not figure out that all you needed to do to enter the United States without hassle was to tell the agent that your birthplace was stateside. If they did not believe you, or your English wasn’t too good, then a driver’s license issued by a U.S. state went a long way to pave over your thick accent. And the Border Patrol guy just waved you through.
With Real ID, the immigration/citizenship problem is easily solved ─ the ubiquitous national identification that Liberals dread, but that everybody carries locally to drive a car or use with a bank account, now handily documents your national citizenship. It is effectively National ID without using that scary totalitarian word.
In 2010, Arizona passed the SB 1070 law that made it illegal under state law to be in the state illegally (i.e., an undocumented alien). It wasn’t a question of racial profiling, although the Left presented this as wartime Nazi papers checkpoints. The simple fact that an Arizona DL (not one from most other states) actually already documented the bearer’s citizenship or legal residency, was extremely important.
And now ALL states have Real ID, so even better from the standpoint of documentation because everybody complies.
However, the Obama Supreme Court ruled Arizona’s SB 1070 to be Unconstitutional, so apparently the states can’t do anything on their own if some administrations do not wish to enforce U.S. immigration law.
But that does not matter any longer because President Trump was elected twice on get-tough-on-immigration policies, and now the Real ID solves an outstanding documentation problem. And the Feds certainly gave people enough time to get their papers squared away.
Yeah, it might be a little inconvenient that you need an ID to fly domestically, and now it must be Real ID compliant with the trademark Star, but so what?
Briefly on voting, Arizona DLs were good identification because you needed to show a birth certificate to get one in the first place. Now that is a moot point because the Star IDs that all states now issue requires such documentation.
Even my octogenarian mother, who no longer drives but has a driver’s license, had to show a certified birth certificate and even a certified marriage certificate because she uses her married name and not her maiden name as on her Birth Certificate. She is Real ID compliant and it was neither expensive nor required any real rocket surgery.
So now with Real ID, there is no excuse not to have valid and low-cost documentation for voting, citizenship, etc.
Otherwise, not everybody is a world traveller that wants to check out the slums of Paris or shop in Canada for some reason and wants to pony up the necessary cash for an actual passport.
Getting the Real ID is not that hard, and everyone should have a certified birth certificate with their home records anyway. They can be obtained by mail from the records office of the state where you are born. You might have to give them your Social Security Number or something like that. I don’t recall exactly what the requirements were but the fee was minor.
Real ID eliminates the Leftist argument that it was just too onerous for Beaners to get valid documentation when many if not most White folks didn’t have a certified Birth Certificate at home or in a safety deposit box either.
🙂
The election in Romania was so obviously rigged. NATO and the EU couldn’t afford to lose the country to “pro-Russia” nationalists because they have American missiles aimed at Russia. The mask of “liberal democracy” is coming off in real time.
