Off topic. Something I think is interesting I want to report. I watched the original black panther the other night bc Greg hood said it was actually a good movie, and I agree. The Kabbalism or revelation of the method that I’m always talking about(or delusional apophenia perhaps) was large. This is a year prior to Epstein’s death. I think they feigned his death. In black panther, at the beginning when they rob the museum, the robbers escape in an ambulance and put the head villain, the klause guy on a stretcher. This is how epstein left the prison of course. Later, t’chala or whatever(the kang) is thought to have died when he goes over the waterfall. Everyone saw him die! Later he is revealed to be alive on ice in a sister kingdom! I believe this is revelation of the method regarding the epstein affair. Also, certain parallels are drawn between the wakandans and Israelis I thought. They have spies imbedded in every country in the world. They use a certain kind of listening device you may observe. A fanatic ethnic loyalty.
Also if you watch Red Sparrow, I think it has threats against Putin. A far less good movie but I think this was unmistakeable.
Where is the threat against Putin in Red Sparrow?
Well, it’s sort of figurative. Notice the guy who is assassinated at the end bears a strong facial resemblance to Putin. The camera is right up in his face to make it unmistakeable. Earlier in the movie, he had the blond guy tortured. There is this Russian Jewish hedge fund expat in the US who claims Putin had his friend tortured to death. This is sort of the subtext of this film, I believe. It’s an implicit warning or threat. Would it surprise you if that happened sometime in the near future?
Easter Island scholar here. The story about missionaries burning the rongorono boards is actually not true. It was probably invented by the sheep rancher Dutrou-Bornier during his rivalry with the missionaries which eventually led to missionaries departing the island and Dutrou-Bornier remaining the sole authority. If anything the missionaries, especially bishop of Tahiti Jaussen have been instrumental in discovering and saving rongorongo.
What happened to them then?
First missionary, Eugène Eyraud, arrived on the island in 1864 and spend there several months. He reported hundreds of rongorongo tablets (it was an offhand remark in his report, he didn’t pay much attention to it). But it seems by that time nobody knew how to read and write anymore – 90% of population died as result of Peruvian slave raids and subsequent epidemics 2 years earlier. 1866 several more missionaries arrived on the island. Among them Eyraud, but he did not mention existence of the tablets to other missionaries. Eyraud dies on the island in 1868. Other missionaries also did not report anything about the tablets. By chance in 1869 one tablet gets into the hands of bishop of Tahiti, Étienne Jaussen (he was also responsible for ending the slave raids), he recognizes the importance of existence of writing and orders missionaries to collect as many tablets as they can. Unfortunately only several tablets seems to be in existence on the island by that time. Upon further inquiry it seems the rest was burned as fuel for food preparations.
The story that it was missionaries who encouraged islanders to burn the tablets seem to originate from a dubious character named Dutrou-Bornier, who arrived on the island in 1868. He managed to exile the missionaries and most of the islanders in 1871 and ruled the island until was killed by one of the remaining Rapanui.
Somewhat the story of missionaries burning or encouraging to burn the tablets has spread. Perhaps because of analogues stories from Mesoamerica where Maya codexes were burned by bishop de Landa, perhaps because many people have anti-Christian or anti-Catholic bias and found in this story their confirmation.
The missionaries left accounts of their evangelization proceedings, but they seem to be completely unaware or uninterested in rongorongo existence until the intervention of bishop Jaussen. Most likely most tablets were burned around 1865 as fuel for food preparation – the population by that time was completely decimated and things once sacred become sacred no more, just wood to prepare dinner for kids.
