Left-wing German media outlet Correctiv reported on January 12 about a private meeting that happened last November in Potsdam, Germany between prominent figures in Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), a rapidly growing Right-wing populist party that is now the second strongest-polling party in Germany, and Austrian identitarian leader Martin Sellner. It is amusing in a depressing sort of way to watch the current about-turn of the German political Right regarding Sahra Wagenknecht. Wagenknecht was a well-known politician of Die Linke, the Leftist uniparty — kind of post-reunification Germany’s version of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). But in recent years she made herself rather unpopular with her comrades, to the point of being threatened with being kicked out of her own party. In 2021 Wagenknecht published a book titled Die Selbstgerechten (The Self-Righteous Ones), her criticism of the modern Left’s betrayal of its former ideals. (more…)

The other most recent example of the progressive top-down technocratic elite transformation of society is the LGBT agenda. As the LGBT scholar Gary Mucciaroni explains, “sexual politics” in America is “a narrative about a heterosexist majority that has used religion and ideology to maintain its cultural and legal privileges.” The literature of the LGBT movement has always self-consciously identified itself as an elite, minoritarian revolution against this heterosexual majority. Since the American Alt Right fell apart, many commentators and outlets which formerly identified as “Alt Right” have started pointing towards European populism as an example to follow, and are often heard to say that the nationalist cause is much further ahead in Europe. As a European, I would like to comment on this, based on the Dutch populist movement, which is relatively strong for a Western European country. (more…)
