Suppression of the National Policy Institute’s conference on The Future of Europe by the government of President Viktor Orbán was an event unprecedented in the history of post-communist Hungary. It marks a watershed for the Identitarian movement, and perhaps even for the continent itself, as its rulers have now made unmistakably clear that they will not permit advocacy on behalf of European interests in Europe.
We do not know exactly how the decision came about. There are three basic theories. First, the EU authorities may have put pressure on the Hungarian government. Orbán was already in a bad odor in Brussels for suggesting that Europeans have children of their own rather than importing populations from outside the continent. He has also spoken positively about Europe’s Christian heritage. These outrages had already led to calls for his ouster. Someone may have drawn a line in the sand and told him that if he did not act to suppress NPI’s conference, he would be suppressed himself.
The second theory is that Orbán was acting to discredit his right-wing rivals Jobbik, the Movement for a Better Hungary, ahead of upcoming elections. A representative of Jobbik was originally to speak at the conference, and the ruling Fidesz Party was no doubt pleased to imply that their rivals were associating with “White Supremacists,” or whatever the current buzz-word is. Jobbik responded, not unlike American conservatives, by withdrawing from the conference and denouncing “racism.” Still, I urge you to note whether Jobbik improves upon its 20 percent share of the vote in the elections tomorrow.
The third theory points to Jewish pressure. The Jewish population of Hungary is proportionally higher than in any other European country except France. Israeli investors have also been buying up a great deal of property in the country. The leader of Jobbik, Gábor Vona, has objected to this, declaring that “these investors should look for another country, because Hungary is not for sale.” As a consequence, he and his party have been officially declared anti-Semitic. The World Jewish Congress met in Budapest in May of 2013, in part to highlight its hostility to Jobbik. Orbán is no doubt under considerable pressure to placate Hungary’s Jews in some way, and suppressing a conference in which Jobbik was to take part must have seemed as good a way as any.
And the three theories I have just listed are in no way mutually exclusive. All of them could be true.
So, what actually happened? First of all, the Hungarian authorities contacted their counterparts in the native countries of at least two scheduled speakers. Local police then warned the men, gangland style, that unpleasant things would happen to them if they showed up in Hungary. The Chairman of the National Policy Institute was also detained at Budapest airport and deported via an outgoing flight.
The day before the conference, NPI President Richard Spencer sent out an email inviting friends and supporters to drop by a certain pub. This event was not a part of the conference. Nevertheless, Spencer’s message was discovered by the authorities and twenty policemen showed up to detain him and take down the names of those present in the pub—a task that probably required no more than three officers. Some of the men were visibly embarrassed over what they had been ordered to do, and even apologized to patrons of the pub for spoiling their evening. I repeat, nothing like this has happened in Hungary since the fall of communism.
The legal basis of the government’s action is unclear. Spencer had lawfully entered a Schengen area country and traveled by train to Hungary, a nation which does not require Americans to have visas for stays of less than ninety days.
Spencer was eventually told that Viktor Orbán had declared him a “national security threat.” He says he laughed out loud upon hearing this. I would have, too. He was held for 72 hours, made to sign various Hungarian-language documents he could not understand and prohibited from entering the Schengen zone, which includes most of Europe, for a period of three years.
The future is up for grabs. I have heard talk of suing the Hungarian government, but whether this is possible or how it would be done I cannot say. The one thing I can state confidently is that we shall meet in Europe again. It is not a matter of our own convenience or pleasure. It is not even primarily a matter of free speech. Europe’s elites, like our own, are in the grip of a delusion that will destroy Western civilization if it is not challenged: that of the interchangeability of populations. They believe a successful society of the European type can be constructed of any human material whatsoever—even with people who have never succeeded in creating any civilization at all. If Homo habilis survived anywhere, our masters would probably be trying to import him as well.
This suicidal delusion is tricked out in humanitarian language about human brotherhood and help for the poor in order to make it palatable to the masses, who are motivated and led by sentiment more than by reason and observation. That this apparently humane ideology leads to a dysfunctional society composed of mutually mistrustful groups in fierce competition is unimportant. What matters to the believer is the positive sentiments, not reality produced by implementing the ideology.
Our job is to remind others of home truths which may sound harsh to them at first, but which when acted upon will lead to higher-trust societies composed of people who understand each other well because they are similar. A world of nations in which people feel at home.
I believe that what happened in Budapest represents a positive development. Twenty years ago, the governments of Hungary and the European Union wouldn’t have considered us worth shutting down. But times are getting harder for Europe’s elites. It is becoming obvious to everyone that they are unable to deliver on their promises, and many Europeans are looking around for alternatives.
The attempted suppression of NPI’s conference was a clumsy move which will only arouse interest in us on the “banned in Boston” principle. That something like half of the attendees showed up anyway is also a very good sign. We need dedicated men who are prepared to step up and take the necessary measures when the current system ceases to function altogether. What I saw in Budapest leads me to believe that we are getting nearer to having the critical mass necessary for the job.

Let’s hope it’s a positive development. I do have a problem though with misrepresentation and hazy definitions. A conference on the the “Future of Europe” with almost zero involvement from the big 5 (Germany, France, England, Italy, Spain) that reads more like an Anglo-American/Russian alliance.
If certain people decide that their new-world experiments are beyond salvation, and want to hitch their rides back to Europe… at least have some respect for the people who have lived there for thousands of years.
Nicely summed up.
It might also be worth exploring actions which could be taken to ensure the next conference takes place: everything from court cases to acts of civil disobedience.
Also be interesting to get some input from insiders in the Hungarian government as to the motivation behind shutting down the conference–as well as what can be done to outmaneuver such sanctions in the future.
The analogy to “Banned in Boston” is apt. White Nationalism and related movements are in the position of being the counterculture to the ruling system. Consider how during the 1950s-early 60s a series of court cases caused the collapse of the reigning orthodoxy on erotic works, contraception, prayer in schools, and etc., all followed by the “revolutions” of the mid-late 1960s.
When it comes down to it, WN now represents freedom–not just freedom of speech/assembly, but freedom for European peoples.
May I ask what elections Mr Devlin is referring to?
Municipal elections. Fidesz trounced Jobbik, in fact.
As great as it was to see our comrades overcome the oppression forced upon them, it would still have been better to have had a conference without interference. Like American Renaissance, the European Congress will need to find a venue that is rock solid- perhaps an impossible task given the Continent’s present legal climate.
There is the option of taking the approach of the London Forum, where advance publicity is avoided. Such events though aren’t enough, as even metapolitics needs faces to associate with our ideas. Outreach is crucial, and public events are a cornerstone in that effort.
It depends on what you call outreach. London Forum talks go on YouTube eventually, so anyone in the world can see them. But if outreach means courting advance press coverage, then of course you risk government and private interference, in which case you need a rock solid venue. American Renaissance and NPI have done conferences in government facilities which cannot discriminate on first amendment grounds. The Budapest event courted advance publicity, but it had no such assured venue. Nor did it have a backup venue in place, which is standard procedure in Europe for even discreet events. Of course, those precautions would not have mattered when the government decided to shut the conference down.
‘Eventually’
I know, I know
If human populations are interchangeable, why do they seek to change the one already there? Thus their actions belie their words and reveal the hidden malice.
You didn’t mention Dugin, does that mean you don’t believe he represented a possible reason for cracking down on the conference?
No, it doesn’t mean that.
Then what does it mean?
Anyone with half a brain could see that Dugin would be a problem.
Hungary just crushed their leftism.
“”…Jobbik breakthrough in Sunday’s local elections
Fidesz won landslide victory in Sunday’s municipal elections; the Jobbik party achieved a significant breakthrough and the fake socialist coalition (the atlanticists) disintegrated.
Today’s electoral success confirmed that the Jobbik party is no longer a regional party as it won seats in all parts of the country. He added that 17 out of 19 county councils Jobbik captured the second place and increased the number of mayoral seats fourfold comparing to the 2010 results….””

Probably this was the reason to throw out mr. Spencer and cancelling WN event. They did not wanted any surprise week before most important elections. Now the Left is ousted from everywhere and “western” nightmare may start

This is better than the early report I read. Still, it probably wouldn’t have hurt Jobbik one bit to support NPI.
EUROPES KOSHER RIGHT WING PARTIES http://wideawakegentile.wordpress.com/2014/09/14/europes-kosher-right-wing-parties/ Let Freedom Ring http://www.rense.com/general75/aahe.htm The only thing he accomplished was bad mouthing Hungay. Why did he have a meeting in a bar, why was he laughing as he was about to be aressted, why was the jew looking boy with him and waving laughing and not arrested, why wasn’t anyone else arrested, why did’nt he have it in some other country?
The conference oppression aside, it seems the Hungarian political leadership is more dedicated to its people than any in Western Europe. Perhaps there really is hope for our people in the East.
Mr. Orban looks like a typical Hungarian. If they are Turkic (as some seem to suggest) then I am a Chinaman.
No one ever said that the Hungarians are Turkic. They are descendants of the Magyars, a Finno-Ugric people from Eurasia that invaded Eastern Europe during the 9th Century, although in reality they are mostly descended from the indigenous Europeans (Pannonians, Celts, Vlachs) on whom a much smaller Magyar elite imposed their language and some of their culture. Genetically, they are indistinguishable from other Eastern Europeans, who also received some admixture from various Eurasian invaders.
I wonder if some of the smarter people in society, who are not won over by more emotional appeals to helping the poor, but are more susceptible to economical type arguments (“we need high iq immigrants to kickstart the economy”), would be susceptible to a pro European argument that draws the contrast between a mild/soft eugenics at home versus a genocidal import of intelligent third worlders who become the new generation of doctors, lawyers displacing the European native.
I think the swelling masses of low IQ immigrants is dangerous, but equally dangerous to our survival is the much smaller number of high IQ immigrants coming to our shores.
And the arguments for high IQ immigrants by, for example Economist magazine, is ultimately a eugenics program for “improving” the native population, but ultimately destroys it, that somehow escapes the Nazi epithet, even though it is fundamentally genocidal.
Anyway, I think a lot of higher IQ types, who have been taught to abhor eugenics could be taught that high IQ immigration is a eugenics program being directed against them and their descendants.
(Apologies to Mr. Devlin, this post was more off topic than I intended. It was triggered by a paragraph of yours)
the swelling masses of low IQ immigrants is not only dangerous but expensive to dues paying union members. I’m not saying that the employer planned it but its quite something to be made aware of “humanitarian ” immigrants going straight into hospital beds while staff (of all races) in the same institution are off sick and without financial support. I’m sure its unintended consequences but the end result of cut backs combined with humanitarian programs is that sick staff (of all races) are without rent money or dental and medical support while patients from the Third World are brought in to be a permanent burden on the tax payer. And of course the old parents are brought in and given free housing, medical and dental along with free education for the siblings. But I musn’t complain as its job security – as long as I don’t get too sick.
Agreed. The same concerns have often crossed my mind about the threat of high IQ immigrants, which I agree is more dangerous than the importation of Shudras. But elite dominance (as happened in Hungary with a military force) cuts both ways. Mass movements are often brought to fruition by a migration event (Mormons going to Utah, Jews moving to “Zion”, Parsis to India, the original Exodus, Puritans to New England) and these often have important Founder effects. If white nationalists really wanted to impose their will on a nation, 10,000 of our most intellectually gifted folk should pack up their things and move to a culturally alien society like Kazakhstan and form a new pro-natalist elite that maintains its biological separateness (as most of the groups indicated above did/have done). We could do the same thing in the US, but it would be difficult to avoid assimilation with the wider population.
Is it possible that the Hungarian political Right did not want an uncontrollable “inflammatory” event like the NPI conference just before elections? Was the timing of the conference inappropriate?
Hungarian politics mattered, pressure from the EU, US & Jewish groups mattered, but what weighed most heavily in Budapest’s decision to shut down the NPI conference is the fact – yes, fact – that it was crawling with Putin sympathizers.
Dugin is a Kremlin fixture while Jobbik’s ties to Russian intelligence are so obvious even the Western MSM has taken notice. Fidesz is understanding of Russian interests and Hungary is probably the most pro-Russian country in NATO and the EU at the moment, but this was pushing it too far.
Spencer has put himself and his group in bed with Putin. WNs may wish to discuss whether this is wise.
