    Etnofutur Conference 2020:
    For Estonia

    Tallinn, Estonia.

    1,514 words

When I think about Estonia, I think about Kalevipoeg, Estonia’s national epic by Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald. To me, this poem best represents the Estonian people, whose history, language, and mythology are distinct compared to the rest of Europe. The Estonian Declaration of Independence, created on February 24th, 1918, even quotes an excerpt from the last chapter of Kalevipoeg. (more…)

Jobbik: A Brief History of a Political 180

Gábor Vona, the former President of Jobbik, in 2015. Beginning in 2013, Jobbik began to soften its earlier militant image, in what was known in the Hungarian media as the “candy campaign.” These efforts to appear more centrist gradually altered the party’s rhetoric beyond recognition. Source: Facebook.

    4,685 words

    Translated by Guillaume Durocher

Long considered the most radical parliamentary party in Europe, over the course of only a few years, Jobbik has morphed into a centrist and pro-European Union party, completely abandoning its former radical rhetoric opposing the EU, NATO, the LGBT movement, and gypsy crime. Today, in fact, Jobbik is trying to ally with the liberal and progressive Left in order to topple Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his party, Fidesz. Thus, this article is a brief history of a political 180.

Over the past three years, Hungary has become well-known throughout the world for its resistance to illegal immigration as well as to the demands of the European Union, which has been attempting to force all of its Member States to accept quotas of migrants in spite of the fact that the majority of people in many of those nations are opposed to it. From Ásotthalom to Custodela
    European Solidarity in Hungary

    3,677 words

    László Toroczkai

    László Toroczkai

On the 19th and 20th of December, 2015, I attended a nationalist gathering in Ásotthalom, a small Hungarian town on the Serbian border and a crisis point in the Middle Eastern/African invasion. I first heard about the gathering from the mayor of Ásotthalom himself, László Toroczkai, as I stood among tens of thousands at the conclusion of the Warsaw 2015 Independence Day march on November 11th.
