Whenever I hear of a blatantly irresponsible and destructive policy—like “Defund the police”—I always ask myself, “What are they counting on?” By this I mean: “What are they counting on to avoid disaster/produce good results?” Since people respond to opportunities, and defunding the police will create more opportunities for crime, the predictable result is more crime.
