The word “technocracy” has recently become firmly established in Western political and media discourse. It’s tempting to define it as “rule by technology”, but that begs the question. The Ancient Greek word technē is the root of both modern words, “technology” and “technocracy”, and it means “to make or do, fashion or create.” (more…)

Following last week’s election of Zohran Mamdani as Caliph of New York, completely unrelated publications worldwide seemed all-too eager to demonstrate their Islamophilia by shoehorning spurious mention of him into their pages. Zohran Mamdani is a fashion icon, say fashion websites! Zohran Madani is a gay icon, say gay websites! And, of course, Zohran Mamdani is a soccer icon, say soccer websites! (more…)

In the autumn of 1961, businessman and author Carleton Putnam visited the Heidelberg Hotel in Jackson, Mississippi to deliver a speech to an audience of segregationists. Putnam’s book Race and Reason: A Yankee View had been released earlier that year. Mississippi governor Ross Barnett was among those who gave introductory remarks before Putnam’s address. (more…)

Critique of American Society
From its origins, Americans have held three fundamental beliefs: first, that America—the new promised land—is the prefiguration of the Cosmopolis, the future Universal Republic, and that the mission of Americans is to set an example and attempt to export the universal model of democratic “good” (more…)

For many years, Western governments promoted immigration as the key to solving their economic malaise. Leaders in countries such as the United Kingdom and Canada insisted that a steady influx of foreign workers would stimulate demand, raise productivity, and offset the demographic pressures of aging societies. Hours before I arrived in Porto, an African man stabbed a pregnant woman to death in one of Porto’s parks. It was yet another one of the countless acts of “random violence” in which a “random” black man “randomly” targets a European woman, child, or man. Indeed, such stabbings in European countries like Portugal are no longer even shocking. (more…)

James Watson, one of the great scientific minds of the past century, has died at the age of 97. In 1953, still in his mid-twenties, he and colleague Francis Crick discovered the structure of the DNA molecule. It was an essential precondition for just about all the advances made in genetics since that time. (more…)

Edited by Greg Johnson
Editor’s Note:
What follows is all my extant correspondence with Jonathan Bowden from 2010. Once he started sending me articles for Counter-Currents, Jonathan would typically send the entire article as an email. For brevity, I have included just the titles. The articles themselves are found on Counter-Currents. There is one exception: the play Straight as an Arrow as well as Jonathan’s introductory note are included in their entirety, because I did not publish them at Counter-Currents. (more…)

On November 4th, there were several special elections across the US that have inspired much doom posting in Republican circles. The most important wins are Zohran Mamdani for New York City mayor, Jay Jones for Virginia’s Attorney General, and Prop 50 in California, which will redraw Congressional districts to favor Democrats as retaliation for Texas doing the same to favor Republicans. But these elections were all in blue states, so the results were unsurprising.
In truth, these elections were bad news only for the Republican Party of Mitt Romney and the policy preferences of Montgomery Burns or the CATO Institute. They are not bad news for the nationalists and populists who are the future of the American Right. (more…)

“L’Italia è fatta. Restano da fare gli italiani.” – Massimo d’Azeglio
Italian tennis is in the midst of a golden age. It’s about damn time, too. For a country where tennis is quite popular, Italy has produced a disappointingly low number of tennis greats. (more…)
