Learning from Success

Nicholas Slattery

solidarismus2,022 words

Spanish translation here

In the third part of my essay I have given myself the more cheering task of putting down some notes as to what I want to see, which very statement can be a start of what needs to be done, to be aware less of what one is against, than what one is for, less concerned with what happened in the past and more concerned with what should change, and how one may bring desirable change about. We do not have to start from scratch. There are instances in different places not only of those getting it wrong but also of those getting it right. One of the first rules of policy should surely be, not only learn from the mistakes of others, but learn from their successes too.

Once a person is aware of what he wants, or wants to see, or wants to see different in the human world, the time is right to create or to join an association which seeks change in the direction he wishes change to take place. This is one of the roles of an association. I stress association and not political party. A party, as its name indicates, is a part only of a greater collectivity and can only hope to succeed where and when the cultural and social ground has been well prepared for it to succeed, because it asserts itself against other parts to take power of an entirety, whereas an association may have much humbler intentions and therefore better chances given its more humble and less divisive aims, of succeeding. Another role of associations is to create social cohesion among the like-minded. Social groups and associations which seek change or growth in a particular sense not only bring the like-minded together by their very existence, they foster the very conditions which they seek to promote. Groups like the French New Right, more recently the Identity movements, and in England, various cultural and social clubs are working in exactly this sense, and quite successfully, too.

In addition to the social or cultural association, the activist or lobby group is more political but in no way a political party. This is the group which has its finger on the pulse of the time and which is founded and works on one issue only. Unlike the association, it is publicity seeking and provocative. It provides the voice for many who fear their voice is not heard. Associations and lobby groups should be prepared to “expose” themselves to the extent of their maximum strength, by this I mean they should be conscious of their strength and be prepared to go so far as their strength will allow, neither on the one hand hiding from every challenge nor wildly challenging forces which can and will easily crush them.

The two greatest challenges with which “movement” associations and groups must be concerned are the population challenge, the phenomenal rise in the non-white global population and on the other hand the struggle for living space. These are the two interrelated issues of our time but as they manifest themselves in everyday life, they may appear differently. For example, black on white crime will seem to be a crime issue, while it is ultimately an issue of living space. The intellectual ground has been laid or is being laid in many countries. The French New Right has left a healthy legacy. There are numerous groups and publications, Counter-Currents is one, operating in the right sense.

There is a danger inherent to the associations, publications, and groups which “prepare the way” and that is that they will become “ivory tower “ groups, unwilling to pay great attention to the real world as events unfold within it and unable or unwilling or both to play a role in events. Such groups or associations may sink into irrelevance and may come to be regarded even by their opponents with indulgence as “irrelevant” because not involved in the world.

Associations and groups need to be paralleled in their development by pressure groups, activist organizations whose task is unlike that of the association, publicity seeking and provocative. Together and acting in an informal cooperation, the association and pressure group should fulfill the role of a political party. I see here as the area where the most work needs to be done.

An obvious case would be black on white crime in the USA or Turkish provocation of the indigenous population in Germany. As is undoubtedly well-known to readers of Counter-Currents but not well-known to the population at large, the established media show a marked bias in the reporting of crimes involving persons of different race. There is for the most part an effective and articulate alternate media and associations which will and do provide alternative reporting and alternative interpretations of events. What is lacking are the activists and activist lobby groups to publicize this message.

It is a point of debate but of currently little interest to Joe Six-pack whether such bias is a “ZOG conspiracy” or merely media owners terrified of the truth getting out about black crime, but such a point of debate should not be at the center of media concerns.

What should be at the center of movement concerns here is making Joe Public aware of the facts and the injustice. What is required here and what is largely missing is a two-pronged strategy. The first prong so to speak, is the public presence. Such a presence should be felt and seen at sites of crimes, in front of the camera where possible, it should be heard intruding wherever news reporters meet and it most certainly be present in front of court rooms. While it is true that the media have an anti-white bias, they are always tempted by a good story. Publicity stunts are hard to ignore by news-thirsty journalists. Publicity attracts new following. It also points to strength and strength in itself creates strength.

The second part of the strategy should be a non-publicity seeking, thoroughly reliable, and non-polemical sources of facts and statistics, a source so fair and reliable that in time it would be used even by establishment reporters.

Increasingly over the last 20 years or so, any attempt to discuss race in a manner favorable to white hegemony or white preservation has been violently challenged by a minority of the ultra-Left. What may seem to some to be a local development, typical of their country, is in fact a world-wide development. Recently it has come to the USA, traditionally viewed as the bastion of free speech. (The group American Renaissance could say a thing or two about that.)

It is known to psychologists that if a person becomes the victim of bullying, he or she is usually ill-advised to keep trying to “walk away.” Walking away from bullies is usually understood as a sign of weakness and an invitation to greater liberties. The bullied child at school would do better to fight back (and even lose) than constantly run away. Running away only makes sense for the weaker party when the weaker part can run away for ever. This is not an option with movement organizations and therefore they need to turn round and fight, however weaker they are and however likely they are to lose. Walking away, or ignoring intimidation is seen by those who practice the intimidation as a sign of weakness and an invitation to “up the ante.” Pro-white groups which are the subject of intimidation and violence will be subject to increased intimidation and violence until they are silenced forever, unless they are prepared themselves to react in kind.

In Britain, an organization the Socialist Workers’ Party has been in the forefront of anti-white campaigns, acting with impunity, recently organizing a demonstration in front of the American Embassy in London, demanding as they put it “justice for Trayvon Martin.” There are a number of political parties in Britain which claim to be pro-white as well as several associations. They should have been there to take up the SWP invitation for anyone to take the microphone and speak! Such action is vastly more important and constructive than futile and costly election campaigns.

The SWP feels comfortable enough to sell its publications at street corners, with no apparent fear of being harassed in any way. It may be that challenging organizations whether on a street corner or in front of the American Embassy will lead to defeat and it will certainly be the case that anyone arrested for so doing can expect unfair treatment form police and courts, but this is preferable by far to the current situation of walking away.

It is understandable that individuals walk away but not comprehensible that organizations do so. The energy and money invested in absurd election campaigns should be re-diverted and their vituperation and criticism should be turned away from one another and towards their real enemies, of whom, God knows there are more than enough to go round!

Activists not only have a crucial role to play in reacting robustly to any kind of bullying and intimidation, they also have a constructive and peaceful role to play. In this role, they should be seen as helpful members of society. There are many possible activities here. In Greece Golden Dawn has organized food parcels for Greeks. In England or the US, groups could keep a look out around public schools for drug peddlers. In France, the patrolling of suburban trains could be a welcome gesture of support to white women traveling by themselves. Such action should not shun publicity but also not seek it. It should be first and foremost what it claims to be: an action aimed at helping people. It will be especially hard for the media and others to attack (although we may be quite sure that they would do so).

Finally, a movement group, whether activist group or cultural or social association, would be a collection of individuals which other individuals want to join, want to become part of. It should offer help, friendship and even be a place for finding girlfriends and boyfriends. (Why do I write “even”? This is in fact of crucial and very underrated importance.)

The focus of activity and thought should always be on what is to be done, not on what was done in the past and above all not on organizations and historical events which belong to history books and cinema. Desperately needed are new symbols and new flags to replace the worn-out and discredited flags and symbols of the dying nation-states. Neither the Stars and Stripes nor the Union Jack nor the French tricolor should have anything to do with any kind of white renaissance movement. We should leave them to the Left, if the Left want them. But people certainly needs flags, whose function after all is to rally and provide identity so designing new flags should be a priority.

Nobody will wish to march in silence under any flag. We need music. We need songs. There should be no pro-movement in the world which would accept any member unable to master at least three or four songs and be able to sing them without the aid of a songbook. In this respect the situation in the movement is utterly dire, deplorable. Cooing over “pro-white” rock or folk music is no replacement for music which people should be able to sing in the streets themselves.

I finish with a plea. If you do not like what you have read, do not continue the tradition of introspection by writing in and telling (and depressing) readers by pointing out to them everything which is misguided or foolish or unoriginal about what I have said, instead write in with your own suggestions starting, “Why don’t we . . .” If, as I hope, some of this pleases you, then do not spend much time saying so, but help us all by continuing to he next step, that of putting theory into practice, with a line that begins something like, “Right! And the way to go about it is by . . .”

Dealing with a few of your points:
    Nicholas Slattery in blockquote:

It is known to psychologists that if a person becomes the victim of bullying, he or she is usually ill-advised to keep trying to “walk away.” Walking away from bullies is usually understood as a sign of weakness and an invitation to greater liberties. The bullied child at school would do better to fight back (and even lose) than constantly run away. Running away only makes sense for the weaker party when the weaker part can run away for ever. This is not an option with movement organizations and therefore they need to turn round and fight, however weaker they are and however likely they are to lose. Walking way, or ignoring intimidation is seen by those who practice the intimidation as a sign of weakness and an invitation to “up the ante.” Pro-white groups which are the subject of intimidation and violence will be subject to increased intimidation and violence until they are silenced forever, unless they are prepared themselves to react in kind.

Andrew Vachss had written with great insight into the topic of bullying, which can take all manner of forms, but is always aimed at controlling you through fear. Once the foundation has been laid, it is very easy to amplify it and extend it. Yet, WNists have always been bullied into submission, one way or another, with a few very rare exceptions. The end point for them has always been our impotence in practice, and our demoralization as the basis for our having as little to do with publicly being identified as WN’s as possible. Not a shot was fired (save Rockwell), and the results have been no less effective as if many, many shots were fired at us, and were fatal to a man.

So much for description, now for prescription.

We could do what the effective have done, as Generation Identitaire has done, and hold speech societies where we learn to discuss and debate (among ourselves) our issues until we have coherent and cohesive policies, and the people to proclaim them. I am not ashamed to admit that I stole this idea from Harold Covington. If you must steal, steal from the best.

Activists not only have a crucial role to play in reacting robustly to any kind of bullying and intimidation, they also have a constructive and peaceful role to play. In this role, they should be seen as helpful members of society.

And the most effective members of our society would be those who use the skills they learn in THIS society as the foundation for their extension and practice in OUR society, our Homeland, the Northwest Republic. Yet, even now, identifying yourself as one of us publicly assures you no shortage of enmity, both official and unofficial. That’s why I keep mentioning the importance of sending money to counter-currents, each and every month. Yet, a speaking society would give us a start in terms of how we appear in public; old t-shirts, satin robes and pillowcases as formal attire, or Hart, Schaffner and Marx three-piece suits? Screaming and hollering about what is being done TO us, or speaking softly and with dignity as to what WE can do FOR ourselves? We have had so much of the former, and so little of the latter, it is hard not to believe that this is by accident. We can change that. Can, and should.

What we need is a metapolitical context, a temporal framework for the outworking of that metapolitical context, and a nostalgia for the future we deserve. Counter-currents offers the first, the Northwest Republic offers the second and third.

The focus of activity and thought should always be on what is to be done, not on what was done in the past and above all not on organizations and historical events which belong to history books and cinema. Desperately needed are new symbols and new flags to replace the worn out and discredited flags and symbols of the dying nation states.

Flags? Your wish has already been answered by Harold Covington with his Northwest Republic series of novels, and websites.

If I might restate your formulation slightly, a components of it might be this: We will never win by being against everything; we will only prevail when we are For something, something much better.

A second restatement might be that the need is there for an organizational model we can grow into. Covington has addressed that, too, but I have a few ideas that might be helpful, which I will address in a follow-up answer.

Thank you for having the courage to speak forthrightly on these issues.

In Britain, an organization the Socialist Workers’ Party has been in the forefront of anti-white campaigns, acting with impunity, recently organizing a demonstration in front of the American Embassy in London, demanding as they put it “justice for Trayvon Martin.”

Which means their beliefs are softly supported by the real power in Formerly Great Britain. Period. They says what Governance wishes others to believe, in a manner not yet acceptable to the Daily Mail, or the Independent. Think of them as the Guardian with voices, or, it might seem, the Labor Party with the Fabian Facade.

There are a number of political parties in Britain which claim to be pro-white as well as several associations. They should have been there to take up the SWP invitation for anyone to take the microphone and speak! Such action is vastly more important and constructive than futile and costly election campaigns.

After the evisceration of Nick Griffin on Question Time, many were demoralized, and said it was all but over. Remember, the public speakers are attacked with impunity, and neutralized, or worse, to make very effective examples. What ever happened to Emma West? Actions always speak louder than words.

“Unfair treatment from police and the courts” AND your employer AND your former associates as you are now a marked man, all is a high price to pay. A more effective approach would be to forgo the political process as such in favor of a more subtle, and more effective process, of mutual aid and mutual support, with a reading society starting as a foundation that can spread openly and honestly. At the end of the day, this is a battle of Ideas, which will prove most effective when they aid temporally as well as intellectually.

As to the patrolling of trains, again, you must have a deep understanding of the use of force/use of deadly force continuum, and know you will be tested. This is courageous, and we have something like that with the Guardian Angels. Proper clothing – a uniform “look,” if you will, will help you gain legitimacy. Think of the Boy Scouts on steroids, but well-dressed and masterful in their interpersonal relations.

Finally, you must teach your members how to debate intelligently, always avoiding the trap of using terms that only cost you respect and support. A series of linked smartphones would go a long way, as well as only traveling in pairs. Just pretend to be like Mormon missionaries building a new church in a regressive land.

“Wise as serpents, and peaceful as doves.”

Two smartphones, both transmitting to the cloud in case they are commandeered by others.

Thanks for your good thoughts, and initiative.
