Longtime Trav readers know that I am a big fan of what I like to call “time capsule movies”, that is to say movies that only could have been made at a specific time and place. Movies about a short-lived fad while the fad was still ongoing are particularly a favorite of mine. “LARPing” is short for live-action role playing, but in the political sphere it does not literally mean playing some sort of role-playing game; rather, that participating in life and politics in an unrealistic way that could only bear fruit in an idyllic fantasy. LARPing tends to be associated with weapons, prepping, and survivalism.
Over the years, any semblance of realism in these fields has eroded into a true and utter “LARP.” (more…)

What is the relevance of what I call the Old Right — German National Socialism, Italian Fascism, and related interwar national-populist movements — to White Nationalism today? The question would not even arise, of course, if there were no connection at all. Many White Nationalist ideas are either direct descendants of Old Right ideologies, or they are their cousins, meaning that they share common ancestors, that they are branches of the same ideological tree.
