In early April, a young Londoner called Finbar Sullivan was pointlessly stabbed to death in the suburb of Primrose Hill, allegedly by a pair of non-whites called Oliuwadamilola Ogunyankinnu and Khalid Abdulqadir, whose very names evoke the final faint moans of a dying alphabet. Unlike his reported attackers, Finbar Sullivan came from a well-off, well-adjusted, upper-middle-class white family: his grandfather was a Hollywood cinematographer on movies like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Elsewhere in London during this same time-span, it turned out the real-life Planet of the Apes had already dawned. (more…)

I see that an American golfer I had never previously heard of, Fuzzy Zoeller, has just died. Despite him apparently being a major and successful figure, having won the 1979 Masters and 1984 US Open, this is how the print version of The Times summarized Fuzzy’s life in the one-sentence strapline to his obituary: “Golfer who tarnished his reputation with a racist joke about Tiger Woods.” (more…)

On Saturday 1 November, there was a mass stabbing on a London-bound train in the southern English town of Huntingdon. As news broke, the authorities braced themselves for the bad news that it would probably turn out to be yet another instance of jihadism. Yet within a matter of hours, the authorities were loudly broadcasting the police’s exceedingly hastily arrived at conclusion that there was “no evidence” the attack was terror-related. (more…)

Guess what Great Britain’s National Education Union (NEU) might be? That’s right, it’s the main national educational union for teachers in Great Britain. The odd thing is, though, for a supposedly “national” organization, it does not appear very much to believe in the validity of the existence of the British nation state at all, at least not as a continuing homeland for the British people. Did you know there was once a black African monarch of Scotland called King Ken the Nigger? No? That’s because there wasn’t. King Kenneth II (r.962-967), or “King Kenneth Niger”, or “King Kenneth Dubh”, as he was sometimes known, probably just had black hair rather than black skin, dubh meaning “black” in Gaelic, with niger meaning the same in Latin. Black fatigue UK

Not all imports from America to the UK are healthy, but there is one which is definitely welcome in beleaguered Britain, tariff or no tariff: black fatigue. This construction has gone viral in the US, and British commentators are beginning to follow suit. It’s an interesting little buzz-phrase, “black fatigue”, because it means two totally different things at the same time. The term has cognitive dissonance. (more…)

Reni Eddo-Lodge is a journalist and commentator about race and feminism. She – I hope I’m not assuming gender here – is of Nigerian ancestry and resides in Britain. The cover of her book seems like a promise. At first one might see “Why I’m No Longer Talking About Race” and shout, Al Hamd’ulIlah! Maybe underneath the cover it’s an empty notebook for doodling or journal entries, huh? On closer examination, one sees that there are also some nearly-invisible letters, and the full title actually is “Why I’m No Longer Talking To White People About Race.” Hey, I’m at peace with that too; haven’t we already heard more than enough skintellectuals sullenly speechifying?
