Jonathan Bowden was born 61 years ago today, on April 12, 1962. He died on March 29, 2012, just short of his 50th birthday. Jonathan was a painter, novelist, essayist, playwright, actor, and orator. He was also a friend. His ideas and personality have had a real and permanent impact on my approach to New Right metapolitics. I wonder what Jonathan would have written in the last eleven years. I wonder what he would have made of Donald Trump, the Alt Right, Black Lives Matter, and other developments. We would have gained much from his insights and guidance. (more…)

Seeing the fuss being made about the death of George Floyd in the mainstream media in May 2020, and gathering that it was if anything worse on social media, I started keeping a “Black Lives Matter diary” to record subsequent events and my thoughts about them. Two years later, having concluded the diary, I edited it to make it more readable and, dreaming that it might one day be published, wrote an introduction. (more…)

This essay is a continuation of my series on “Heidegger’s History of Metaphysics.” With Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling (1775-1854) we have reached a significant milestone, in a number of ways. Behind us, in our journey toward Gelassenheit, we have Plato, the philosophers of the Middle Ages, Descartes, Leibniz, Kant, and Fichte. Ahead of Schelling we have only two more philosophers to discuss, Hegel and Nietzsche, before we turn to cover in more detail Heidegger’s response to the metaphysical tradition and to modernity.
