Why I Write

Matt Parrott

1,026 words

Several months back, I saw one of these “Why I Write” articles and resolved to write my own. I came up with several good reasons why one should write: to serve as a lightning rod around which to organize dissent, to expose my ideas to constructive criticism, to arrive at a rhetoric which is both radical and relevant, and so on. Those are all perfectly good reasons, but they’re unfortunately not my reasons. For me, writing is a compulsion, an itch that I can’t not scratch.

There are other things I really should be doing. The movement has other writers, writers who are more knowledgeable, more intelligent, and more enjoyable to read. My time is certainly more profitably invested in street organizing and systems design — two roles within the movement that are more sorely needed than yet another blogger. But here I am, writing a blog post about writing blog posts. It’s a sickness, one that you’re enabling by reading this.

And why do I suffer from this sickness? Because I’m White. A defining characteristic of our people, one that’s manifested by a solid fraction of White men and scant few men of other races, is this insatiable impulse to create. This impulse finds different expressions with different men in different contexts, but how many non-White men, including Asians and Jews, have workshops in their garages? Is there an Asian equivalent of Leonardo DaVinci’s notebook? Has there ever been a Jew as creative as Shakespeare? Can India boast of a single polymath as prolific as Ben Franklin?

Comparing accomplishments is innately subjective, but Charles Murray tried mightily to arrive at an objective comparison between civilizations in Human Accomplishment. His formulas arrived at the intuitively obvious — that we overshadow the rest of mankind in this regard. How many non-Whites have their own private laboratories? How many non-Whites waste their time and energy contributing to open source projects? Who else pursues hobbies with the passion and focus of the White male?

Contributing to the open source movement is the quintessential act of compulsive creativity in today’s world. The open source programmer is, in my mind, the 21st century equivalent of yesteryear’s gentleman scientist. For many of us, the labs and workshops have been replaced with workstations, but the creative impulse remains the same. Just as naturally as a snail leaves a trail of slime, White people leave a trail of creation. Whole new worlds unfold within the folds of our cerebral cortices. While we could congratulate ourselves for our immeasurable contributions that have benefited all of mankind, it’s a compulsion we’re powerless to suppress if we wanted to.

To illustrate my point, I went to the leading host of open source software, Sourceforge, and tried to look up the creators of the top ten projects for this week.

DC++ (Jacek Sieka) :: White

Audacity (Dominic Mazzoni) :: White

GIMP (Spencer Kimball & Peter Mattis) :: White

PortableApps (John T. Haller) :: White

NVDA (Michael Curran) :: White

Vuze (Tyler Pitchford) :: White

eMule (Hendrik Breitkreuz) :: White

7zip (Igor Pavlov) :: White

BitTorrent (Bram Cohen) :: Jew

Pidgin (Mark Spencer) :: Half-White / Half-Egyptian

Methodology: I skipped FileZilla, VirtualDub, and Shareaza because I could not determine the races of Tim Kosse, Avery Lee, and Tim Stokes. They seem like White names, but that’s insufficient. I also skipped Ares Galaxy and PDFCreator because the developers are apparently anonymous. I used the lowest possible standard of determining whether somebody was Jewish (a single unsupported reference identifying him as such). Not to quibble, but the “Egyptian” Mark Spencer could have probably boarded the Mayflower without raising any eyebrows.

Now, I grant that there’s somewhat of a “digital divide” with Whites being the first ones to have access to the Internet. But that’s largely because Whites, through tinkering and experimenting in labs and garages throughout the West, invented the Internet (and Al Gore is not Jewish). Not that it entirely explains it. Eastern Europeans are overrepresented in the rankings, despite surely having less access to personal computers and Internet connections than African Americans. The most glaring omission comes from the Far East. Asians may be intelligent, honorable, and orderly, but they quite clearly lag the West when it comes to creativity, experimentation, and innovation.

We had a forest behind my home where I grew up. I never really  played in it that much — I worked in it. I designed an elaborate system of trails with a yard rake, borrowed a spade from a neighbor and created a dam that produced a small pond when it rained, built flimsy bridges over ditches with sticks, and created little forts from fallen logs. Then, when back in the house, I drew detailed maps in my journal of the trails and landmarks I had created. While I don’t play in the woods much anymore, the same basic impulse has only grown stronger as I’ve grown older.

I’m not saying my habits are typical of White people, but I’m atypical in a typically White way. I’m a geek. As a teenager, I was diagnosed by one psychiatrist with Asperger’s Syndrome, which could explain why the mortal terror of public ridicule that freezes many would-be activists in their tracks doesn’t phase me. I can’t even call it courage in my case, as I barely perceive the threat. I lie awake at night worrying about losing, not about being laughed at, marginalized, or deemed unworthy of respect by this regime’s self-appointed arbiters of respectability.

According to Ayn Rand, the fountainhead of human progress is greed. In her case, and for her people, that may well be the most succinct way to define their “progress.” For me and my people, our progress is measured in terms of creativity. For me as an individual, that creative compulsion often finds expression in the form of writing. Before I started writing frequently for the movement, I wrote frequently on anthropological topics that eventually led me to outspoken advocacy. After we’ve secured a sovereign stretch of homeland for future generations, I’ll move on to writing about other topics that I find fascinating, yet unworthy of my focus in the midst of our existential crisis.

But I’ll always write, and I’ll always write because I’m White.

    Great article – your discussion of the world of open-source software and how ‘white’ it is chimes with some similar thoughts I’ve been having on the subject recently. The highly creative, collaborative and self-organizing communities that exist around open-source software projects are signs of real hope. To those who would organize politically, their methodology also has much to teach.

    “The movement has other writers, writers who are more knowledgeable, more intelligent, and more enjoyable to read.”

    And I read you because of your white Christian heart. I wish you would write an essay about what an asset this heart is to our people. Few issues are as dividing in “our scene.” Few understand that the ecumenical details hold little for us free-ranging CI/Kinist/Mormons, and that we are our own harshest critics.

    Those who hold nothing greater than themselves need an eloquent wordsmith to explain the strength inherent to a true Christian warrior.

    I think Rand said it was man’s “ego” (not “greed”) that is the fountainhead of human progress.

      Touche.

      I’ve found an abundance of articles describing her philosophy in terms of “greed”, but can’t find her defining it as such.

      Perhaps it would be more appropriate to replace “greed” with “selfishness”, which she has defined her philosophy in terms of. I reckon “ego gratification” could work, too.

      Toe-may-toe, toe-mah-toe.

    I read dozens of blogs, comments, etc. everyday. This one is exceptional because it is flat honest (another trait our race alone seems to value).

    Now we need to be creative with our crisis like never before.

      Yeah, you guys should try bombing black establishments or screaming “faggot” at gay people. That would be a great tactic.

    Matt;

    Inspiring stuff, as usual.

    I’ve always been a fan of your writing, since I first read you on Occidental Dissent in its glory days. There were a few really intelligent commenters there – you, Trainspotter, Kievsky, Chechar and others. Where do you all hang out now? Hoosier Nation, Fair and Delightsome, CofCC seem to have gone dormant.

      I have a bad habit of bouncing around feverishly from blog to blog. I’m working on a couple posts for C-C, just ran a few through InMalaFide.com, have a couple up at TOO, am a bit more actively lately at Hoosier Nation. I really need to create a personal Twitter account where I maintain a feed of all my different posts at all my different sites.

      Since the topics are so varied, and often inappropriate for one site or another, I don’t have much choice but to bounce around.

    I simply don’t understand (or maybe I do and just don’t want to believe) how someone as talented (especially in writing) and intelligent (especially in composition of thought/argument) as yourself can’t see something as simple as your own inherited position of white privilege. Do you really believe that white heterosexual males are disproportionately dealt injustice; do you think that white hetero males have it hard because gays, people of color and women are starting to get a (superficial) footing on equal ground by having a few (mostly superficial) grants and policies created in their favor; are you just a smart dude who knows how to rationalize an egocentric, childish complaint? Or something else? Granted, I’m choosing not to be polite or mince words. Unlike American liberals and conservatives, I don’t use political correctness to mask my contempt for the white supremacist-victim attitude. The questions remain.

    I spent a lot of time writing comments on your blog. Even if you decide to erase all the other ones, I hope you decide to answer this comment. I won’t bother to get into a flame thread with ya, but it would surprise me if you didn’t write back. I hope ya do.

    To anyone who has a critique of antifa and ARA members because they have the guts to get down in the streets and bash back, I recommend watching “Why We Fight”. Easy to find on Youtube, it’s an account from the nineties of the reason and rise of the anti-fascist movement. It applies here in the U.S., in my opinion, because of the uncanny similarity between the BNP and the American Tea Party(ies). If you have the guts to both disagree and watch the full one-hour doc, then kudos to you.

      Puls:
      “how many non-White men, including Asians and Jews, have workshops in their garages? Is there an Asian equivalent of Leonardo DaVinci’s notebook? Has there ever been a Jew as creative as Shakespeare? Can India boast of a single polymath as prolific as Ben Franklin?”

      Uh, just let me get this straight. Workshops in garages mean what? Asians don’t create things? Just how much time do you spend researching Asian culture? And brown people, namely Arabs (gasp–terrorists!) invented modern mathematics. White people couldn’t even come up with a concept for “zero” without them, and our entire mathematical and scientific disciplines depend on it.

      And I thought Jesus was a Jew? Also, count the Bible out, too, cause brown people did that. Well, shoot! It looks like your argument is egocentric garbage. I’m detecting a pattern!

      I just can’t figure you out. Simultaneously excellent as a writer, and dirt-dumb in reasoning.

        Ben,

        Just for the record: are you Gentile or Jewish, or perhaps a non-White? The answer to your questions depends on who you really are.

      2. Matt Parrott says:
        April 10, 2011 at 8:56 pm

        Ben,

        If you would ease up on the stereotyping and prejudice, you would see a different picture.

        Workshops in garages mean what?

        It means that Whites are inclined toward creativity in a way that other folks aren’t.

        Asians don’t create things?

        They most certainly do, but they’re less inclined to envision new systems and processes. They can create excellent works of art, masterful symphonies, and marvelous devices, but they’re typically merely improvements on and refinements of existing systems and processes. The acts are also typically done in a different manner and spirit – more methodically and intentionally – lacking in the spirit of play, the essence of the hobby that’s more typical in the West.

        And brown people, namely Arabs (gasp–terrorists!) invented modern mathematics. White people couldn’t even come up with a concept for “zero” without them, and our entire mathematical and scientific disciplines depend on it.

        See, there you go with the presumption that I’m “anti-Arab” when I’m demonstrably not. Before becoming a more prominent target, I actually had an antifa guy in Indianapolis take my picture at an anti-war rally. Little did he know he was shaking hands with his arch-nemesis…

        Arabs are just fine in Arabia. And, as you noted, have made definitive contributions to human progress.

        And I thought Jesus was a Jew? Also, count the Bible out, too, cause brown people did that.

        I don’t hate brown people. I don’t count out the contributions brown people make. The Japanese have demonstrated how a nation can be confident about its heritage and destiny, while shamelessly plucking good ideas from people who wouldn’t necessarily be welcome to become Japanese citizens.

        Well, shoot! It looks like your argument is egocentric garbage. I’m detecting a pattern!

        Did you mean ethnocentric instead of egocentric? You dismissed my argument as garbage before I even responded to it.

        The pattern I’m detecting is one of you cramming me into this childishly simple Manichean template.

    2. Matt Parrott says:
      April 10, 2011 at 9:52 pm

      Do you really believe that white heterosexual males are disproportionately dealt injustice;

      Behind the overarching racial issues is an intra-racial status competition between working class Whites and the White and Jewish overclass. I believe the former are being disproportionately victimized, marginalized, and driven out of their communities. I believe the latter, the overclass, are teaming up with a brown underclass against us. When the Blacks were brought over here, they were brought by rich Whites to undercut working Whites. The Mexicans being brought over here now are being brought for the same reason.

      The globalist warmongers, the corporate fatcats, the banksters, the International Jews (and gentile sidekicks), etc… are the primary source of funding and support for “diversity”, “multiculturalism”, and neo-colonialism. White Nationalism is the very last stage of the steady rollback of Western colonialism, of the very nations that have hosted these global parasites throwing them overboard. The future I envision is one where the people are in control…not the creepy abstract global “proletariat” of Marxist dogma, but genuine people who have distinct ethnic nationalities, religious beliefs, traditions, and ways of life.

      We both perceive ourselves to be fighting the same enemy, we’re just perceiving the problem through different frames. Within my frame, this isn’t about Whites being “privileged” or about White “guilt”. It’s about securing a future for every national identity, form of religious expression, culture, and way of life against the global plantation owners who see all of the things that make humanity diverse as barriers to profit. Borders are barriers to profit, religions are barriers to profit. The only common thread behind everything that liberalism, modernity, and multiculturalism seek to promote is their usefulness in this context.

      You continue to be suspicious about my motives, which is sensible. At the very least, be skeptical. Always be skeptical. But you might want to look behind you with a skeptical eye, as well. Does it not concern you even a bit that SB590 is being defeated right now by GOP insiders? Does it not concern you that McDonald’s spends millions on a zippy “Black 365” campaign while my group isn’t even allowed to meet up there?

      I am the true enemy of White Supremacy – by demanding that American Whites stop trying to rule the world and start acting like a normal healthy nation. I am the true promoter of diversity, by struggling against the forces that wish to grind away all the cultural differences and promote one global “humanist” moral construct. I am the true friend of the Mexican laborer, by fighting his exploitation by wealthy businessmen. I am the true friend of women and gays, by securing a future in which they’re not threatened by Latin American chauvinism and Islamic homophobia.

      do you think that white hetero males have it hard because gays, people of color and women are starting to get a (superficial) footing on equal ground by having a few (mostly superficial) grants and policies created in their favor;

      Look, I’m a political activist. My people are understandably upset about Affirmative Action and I am with them against explicitly anti-White legislation. However, please understand that I really don’t care about Affirmative Action. In fact, I love it and secretly hope it stays (don’t tell anybody). Every time a young White man is bounced back home by the oligarchy is a victory for my people. The Whites I actually “pity” aren’t myself, or other relatively bright office monkey types who would be affected by Affirmative Action. They’re the working poor, the factory workers and construction laborers who never competed for a “quota” seat at a University.

      I sympathize with the Black American men who are also being driven out of work and humiliated by a system that is eager to push them out of the economy in favor of cheaper and more docile Mexican laborers. But they’re not my people. They have their own leaders, their own culture, their own past, and their own future. Unlike liberals, I don’t wish to exploit them as my political minions. I just wish for me and mine to go a separate way. Black men are adult human beings, and should be empowered to determine their own sovereign destiny as a people.

      are you just a smart dude who knows how to rationalize an egocentric, childish complaint? Or something else?

      You can accuse me of being “clever” or of being duplicitous. But my record, both written and walked, is one of being a full-throated advocate for my people and my way of life against the global imperialists. I treat non-Whites respectfully, and tipped the non-White waitstaff at the MCL Restaurant handsomely for years before you and your goons terrorized them. The Black woman at the hotel that canceled on us was scared of you, not us.

      I don’t expect you to actually come around to my way of seeing things. But I do ask you to step back and consider that people who disagree with you may be something other than egocentric scoundrels driven by blind hatred. I also ask that you not scare elderly people who are going out for breakfast. Given that the local police are on your side – another DOES NOT COMPUTE thing for a man alleging to be fighting the system, all I can do is ask.

      I recommend watching “Why We Fight”

      I’ll make time to watch that later this week.
