It is the season of giving, and in that spirit I would like to give a Christmas present to the Christians within our ranks as a gesture of good will. I’ve recently taken interest in the Bible — probably too much interest. I suppose I’m now “clinging” to the Good Book along with my .410 squirrel gun. I’ve even listened to Alexander Scourby’s excellent readings of the King James Bible while driving, and watched numerous TV/Internet documentaries on the historical and archeological aspects of the Biblical stories. Notes sur Moïse l’Egyptien, Partie 2

Note de l’Auteur :
Ensuite nous discuterons les livres ultérieurs d’Assmann : The Price of Monotheism, Of God and Gods: Egypt, Israel, and the Rise of Monotheism, Religio Duplex: How the Enlightenment Reinvented Egyptian Religion, et le livre à paraître From Akhenaten to Moses: Ancient Egypt and Religious Change.

(more…)

The following text is an experiment. It is the first of a series of “notes” on select chapters of Jan Assmann’s Moses the Egyptian
. My primary aims are to encourage more people to read the book and to shape how they read it.
