Missouri Senator Josh Hawley grilled US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas about the crisis on the Mexican border on February 2, stating in part that Mayorkas’ performance was “despicable” and that his unwillingness to provide answers was “absolutely atrocious.” Mayorkas attempted to deflect blame by stating that he is the child of a holocaust survivor, thereby implying that he, and by extension most Jews, should be above criticism.
It was hard to tell if he was being devious or if this is what he actually believes. Mayorkas’ blunder was so egregious I wouldn’t be surprised if Jonathan Greenblatt gave him a call afterwards about feeding “problematic anti-Semitic tropes.” (more…)

Theodore John Kaczynski, the Bedraggled Genius Prophet of Techno-Doom, was found dead in his North Carolina prison cell in the early morning hours this past Saturday. He was 81 years old. The cause of death is currently unknown, and I wouldn’t trust the federal prison officials to be honest about it, anyway. The New York Times is already spreading rumors that he committed suicide. When I headed to the nineteenth American Renaissance conference last weekend (held once more in the beautiful Montgomery Bell State Park in Dickson County, Tennessee), I was uncertain as to what the mood would be. A common sentiment one encounters among Leftists is that their opponents have a moral obligation to “unlearn” their views (see this post). Leftists from conservative backgrounds insist that they changed their minds because they “thought for themselves,” and order all Right-wingers to do the same — or else.
The claim that they “thought for themselves” is easily disproven. Truly thinking for oneself is difficult. (more…)
