In keeping with my annual Christmas season ritual, I am currently enjoying a much-needed vacation with extended family in Appalachia. Every year, my aging aunt graciously hosts my family: me, my children, and our dog. This year the experience has been all the more special because she bought a DVD copy of It’s a Wonderful Life, the 1946 Christmas classic starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, and last night we gathered around her flatscreen to watch it. We all know the parable of the Good Samaritan: the story of the foreigner willing to go out of his way to save a stranger. It is a favorite story of particularly leftist Christians, who like to use it as a bludgeon against conservative insularity and preference for the family and the nation over strangers.

The actual meaning of the story, however, is not at all how it is interpreted in popular culture. Indeed, there is good reason to believe that this false interpretation belies the worship of an un-Christian, and more political kind of God.  (more…)

Pak mě ale napadlo: „Na co se vlastně šetříš?“ Potřeboval jsem spánek, abych si zachoval svou krásu? Všechno, co ušetříme, stejně musíme vydat, jelikož smrt nikomu nic nenechává.
