Guide to Kulchur
Episode 1: They Live

Counter-Currents Radio

91 words / 70:55

Counter-Currents author James J. O’Meara joins Fróði Midjord on the new podcast series, Guide to Kulchur, to discuss John Carpenter’s 1988 classic, They Live, about a man who discovers that an alien tribe has enslaved the Earth without anybody noticing through mass media control, making people believe that they are human when in fact they have “formaldehyde faces,” in the words of the central character. Erkenbrand, The Great White Strike, and the American midterm election are also discussed.

Listen to “Guide to Kulchur (guest: James O’Meara) – episode 1, ‘They Live'” on Spreaker.

Carpenter is a fairly typical American white leftist of that generation yes. You can find interviews of him on youtube frowning and lamenting the ‘really nasty’ racism in the South and so on, as if it was some personal injustice upon him. But like a lot of American white leftists of that generation, they only take their leftism so far, and it only exists within a wider concept of Americanism, to which it is always subservient to.

And like a lot of old people, the reality of the world has sped past him and he’s got a bunch of standard boomerish responses to what he thinks are contemporary social ills. To him it’s still 1960 or something.

It’s really sad the ADL and SPLC forced him to go on Twitter and make a statement. I’m guessing it was them prodding him to do it. They probably said ‘Do this or you’re a Nazi sympathizer’. It’s just a way of scaring an old man who doesn’t know what’s going on.

The Aliens got to him in the end.
