Britain is about to get her sixth Prime Minister in seven years. Sir Keir Starmer announced his resignation from the highest political office in the United Kingdom from outside the famous black front door of Number 10, Downing Street on Monday, and will apparently leave in September. This is a fast-moving story, and as I write there is talk about Starmer leaving office in July if there is no leadership contest. (more…)

Donald Trump could have easily covered up Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes. All he needed to say is: “I have been promising for years to release the Epstein files. I’ve created a lot of expectations. Now that I’ve actually looked at the files, they are worse than I ever imagined. If I released these files, it would bring down the government. We would spend the rest of my term embroiled in the Epstein scandal. Yes, justice would be done for a few dozen criminals and a few dozen victims. But at what cost? Basically, at the cost of the MAGA agenda. Deportations, prosperity, peace: all would be sacrificed. You would all suffer. And that’s too high a price to pay. One of the points Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn bangs home a lot in his classic work of historical research, The Gulag Archipelago, is that political prisoners in the Soviet gulag system were of lower status and were treated worse than actual criminals, such as rapists, thieves, and murderers.
