Editor’s Note: The following is a transcript by John Morgan of a British National Party stump speech, once thought lost, that Jonathan Bowden gave in Liverpool on November 28, 2008. The title is editorial, and versions of the speech online have also been titled “An Anglosphere Call To Arms” and “Jonathan Bowden ‘We’re Not Ashamed’ Commemoration.” The video this transcript is based upon, which can be viewed at The Jonathan Bowden Archive here, is cut in many places. The cuts are indicated by asterisks in the transcript. If you have a complete audio or video recording of this speech that you are willing to contribute, please contact us. Like the Roman, I seem to see “the Tiber foaming with much blood.” — from a speech by Enoch Powell
Enoch was the best parliamentarian I ever knew. — Margaret Thatcher
Enoch Powell was arguably the greatest Prime Minister Great Britain never had. He looms large in the national consciousness largely because of a speech he gave in 1968 at a hotel in his home town of Birmingham to an audience of Conservative Party members. There were no crowds outside attempting to cancel or deplatform him; that would come later. (more…)

Enoch Powell, poslední tory
English original here
Enoch Powell by nesjpíš v roli vůdce britského nacionalistického hnutí působil jakoby nepatřičně i v lecjaké alternativní historii. Oddaný voják Impéria, příslušník establishmentu, osobitý klasický učenec a nepředvídatelný, byť poctivý student politické strategie Powell totiž rozhodně nebyl žádný pravicový radikál. Byl to konzervativec až do morku kostí, podle vlastního vyjádření „se jako toryovec už narodil … jako člověk s neotřesitelnou vírou v instituce. (more…)

The recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II is a sad occasion. It’s comforting that she lived to an advanced age, however. Moreover, she remained physically able, kept her wits about her, and the end was peaceful and not prolonged. Fate was kind to her in that regard. Enoch Powell: Politics and Ideas in Modern Britain
London: Oxford University Press, 2019Before reading this new biography of Enoch Powell (1912-1998), I’d expected it would be a rollicking Roy Jenkins kind of Parliamentary biography, full of witty asides in the smoking room and dark mutterings through the Octagon. Actually, it’s a detailed, often dry, but generally surprising survey of a political career. (more…)

The single most talked-about Member of the British Parliament today was a lowly backbencher who was kicked out of the shadow government of his party. The cause of this strange situation is the farsightedness of the man combined with his extraordinary eloquence. The backbencher’s name: Enoch Powell. (more…)
