On November 4th, there were several special elections across the US that have inspired much doom posting in Republican circles. The most important wins are Zohran Mamdani for New York City mayor, Jay Jones for Virginia’s Attorney General, and Prop 50 in California, which will redraw Congressional districts to favor Democrats as retaliation for Texas doing the same to favor Republicans. But these elections were all in blue states, so the results were unsurprising.
In truth, these elections were bad news only for the Republican Party of Mitt Romney and the policy preferences of Montgomery Burns or the CATO Institute. They are not bad news for the nationalists and populists who are the future of the American Right. (more…)
