Years ago, in the pages of his own publication, Spearhead, John Tyndall, then leader of Britain’s National Front, wrote approvingly that in Europe in the 1930’s “strong men came forward” to restore authority and a sense of purpose to their respective nations. The Low Countries (“The Netherlands”) is the name given to the area comprising the present-day states of The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. The language spoken in this area is largely Dutch, but in the south there is a strong and expanding influence of French. Belgium is divided into a Dutch-speaking and a French-speaking area, whose inhabitants are referred to as “Flemish” and “Walloons” respectively. (more…)

The European Union Parliament elections have come and gone. While some results were being finalized just this morning, the dust has settled more or less and we can take stock of what occurred.

France

We’ll start with what is arguably the most momentous election result. In France, National Rally, of which Marine Le Pen is a member and which is now led by the handsome and charismatic Jordan Bardella, won 31% of the votes and gained 12 seats in the EU Parliament. (more…)

Stories cannot substitute for historical facts, even when people want them to be true — but as a result of Black Lives Matter’s influence, resurrecting the atrocities of Western colonialism has become fashionable. George Floyd’s death revived a torrent of anti-colonialism in Western societies fueled by resounding demands for governments to atone for colonialism’s sins. Although, the colonial legacy of the Western powers is tainted by dastardly acts, exaggerations of violence must be condemned. Using history as a political tool only pollutes public discourse in the long run. (more…)

I would like to introduce Counter-Currents’ international audience to the largest annual Dutch-Flemish nationalist event in the Low Countries: the IJzerwake. In Dutch, this refers to a wake or prayer on the river Yser. It could also be translated as “wake of iron,” as ijzer means iron. It is a perfect example of successful nationalist activism.

The event began as a split from the older IJzerbedevaart, or “pilgrimage to the Yser,” which was taken over by Leftist influences around 2003. (more…)
