Although the book is not polemical or sensationalistic, still less speculative (de Benoist is no Dan Brown), it is nevertheless provocative. There is provocation in the very title chosen: L’Homme qui n’avait pas de Père, the man who had no father. If there is originality in this book, it is in its insistence on the importance of closely examining Jesus’ family tree, of stressing its importance and weighing up the evidence of his parenthood and family relations. Ninguém há que se ponha a estudar seriamente a história do cristianismo, sem deixar-se impressionar pela quase completa inexistência de documentos concernentes aquele cujo nome está intimamente ligado a esta grande religião mundial, a saber: Jesus Cristo. Não sabemos sobre ele, senão o que nos é falado nos evangelhos – vale dizer: praticamente nada; isto porque, se os mesmos são pródigos em relatar-lhes as passagens miraculosas, nada dizem que nos esclareça sobre sua pessoa e, sobretudo, sobre sua origem.
