One of these days Harper Lee is going to kick off and have great big posthumous laugh at our expense. Bwah-hah-hah! Because right there in her Last Notes and Testament, we will find an answer to that puzzlement that has troubled the publishing biz for a half-century or more.
Namely, why didn’t Harper Lee write any more novels after To Kill a Mockingbird?

Like all of you, I was heartbroken and enraged by the unveiling of what has been going on for years in Rotherham. I was particularly moved by Andrew Hamilton’s article “Rotherham: The Product of a Diseased Ruling Class.” While it is true that no one outside the ruling elite could have definitively stopped this horror, any one of us could have acted to make the number of victims 1,390 instead of 1,400, for example. Recent news reports about the ongoing, systematic physical brutalization, prostitution, rape, and sexual exploitation of at least 1,400 white, underage English girls in the city of Rotherham in northern England over many years by South Asian immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and elsewhere, has prompted the “explanation” that police, politicians, social service workers, and other state employees let it happen because they were “afraid” of being called racists if they tried to stop it.
