“Crank Cuckoldry” is the single greatest obstacle to getting any authentically tribal and traditional opposition to multiculturalism and modernity off the ground. I’m not talking about the “cranks” who merely make us look bad, scaring off new recruits and hobbling advocacy. That may be a problem, but that’s a rounding error compared to the less obvious and more insidious ways the more virulent cranks paralyze our work and impede all attempts to unify against our enemies. On my way to my first Counter-Currents retreat, I passed a large sign immediately before the airport exit: the exit to Peoria. I kept going, symbolically committing myself to personally and publicly sticking to a radical position instead of exhaustively attempting to reconcile what I actually believe with “Will it play in Peoria?”

Despite its pretensions, Modernity presents at least as many taboos and behavioral limitations as the stuffiest Victorian ball. One must never discriminate, one must never judge, and one must never be a dreaded hypocrite. If America’s social and political trajectory should be summed up in a pithy phrase, perhaps it could be “a complete lack of judgment.” To judge is to ascribe value to things, an intrinsically hierarchical, discriminatory, and anti-egalitarian exercise.
