Chaos in the North: Decline & Fall Edition

The excruciating psychic pain of being around people who do not know that their country is in steep decline is acute these days. Most Canadians are blissfully unaware or too busily preoccupied by subsistence-level everydayness to notice. Bread and circuses abound as the Toronto Blue Jays were in the World Series facing the Los Angeles Dodgers, the hockey season has just begun, and gridiron football is well underway. In a hard-fought series, the Dodgers ultimately prevailed. Even though the panacea of sportsball fever distracts from our elected and non-elected officials’ subversive scheming, hopefully more people will wake up to the fact that our erstwhile prosperous country is being destroyed in real time. Here are a few news stories that provide a glimpse of what is going on here in the chaotic north.

It turns out that some Canadian judges are handing out lenient sentences to immigrants guilty of sex offenses. The justification, according to Revolver news, is that these adjudicators would rather mollycoddle these rapacious migrants to shield them from deportation instead of dealing out real justice. That is the extent to which Canada has descended into the nadir of Leftist insanity. We have seen this pattern repeat itself throughout the West as Counter-Currents readers well know. Speaking of depraved interlopers, an Indian immigrant is guilty of spying on women with hidden cameras. He was given a lenient sentence.

A Tim Hortons franchise in Grand Bend, Ontario, changed ownership. Located in Southwestern Ontario on the shores of Lake Huron, Grand Bend is a picturesque tourist town with a population of just under 4,000 people. In October 2025, the news that their local Tim Hortons was purchased by new owners from Brampton, Ontario, caused a stir on social media as the entire local staff was fired at short notice. Brampton is synonymous with east Indians. They have essentially taken over the city. The new owner of this branch of Tim Hortons is, lo and behold, an east Indian who predictably fired all of the white staff, and it is anticipated that they will be replaced with newly arrived Indians. Tim Hortons, the ubiquitous Canadian coffee shop, has been abusing the Temporary Foreign Worker Program for years. As the author of the piece points out the “TFWP was created as a temporary measure, not a permanent staffing policy. If franchise owners are dismissing Canadian workers to rehire through federal visa channels, that represents a clear abuse of the system.”

The investigative news website Blacklocks reported on October 24, 2025, that 32,000 criminal foreigners are awaiting deportation from Canada. This information was provided by the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA). Although these numbers pale in comparison to countries with larger populations like the United States, this remains a significant figure for a country like Canada. I took the time to watch part of the proceedings in the parliamentary committee meeting to witness the fiery exchanges between Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) Frank Caputo and the Liberal Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree. The impression given by the government representative, was that the 32,000 in question were not being adequately monitored, were on house arrest, and were essentially lost in Canada’s vastness or ethnic enclaves. Incidentally, crime rates in Canada have risen at a rapid rate compared to the United States according to a news story in the Canadian Press.

Transgender insanity caused a Vancouver city councillor to weep. Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioner Scott Jensen and other council members apologized effusively for a Harry Potter themed outdoor event in Vancouver, British Columbia (BC). “Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience” was billed as a magical nighttime walk in the city. This emotive virtue-signalling was precipitated by the hysterical transgender war against J.K. Rowling and the ubiquity of Leftist idiots.

Another disturbing trend in Canada’s westernmost province involves the confiscation of property rights from unsuspecting owners in favour of native tribes. To virtue signal their way into Leftist ideological nirvana, homeowners are being dispossessed of their holdings. After promising to uphold property rights, the far-Leftist government of BC announced just the opposite. A writer for the independent news websites True North Wire and Juno News, Cosmin Dzsurdzsa, likened it to communist Romania: “Land expropriations are always communist, even when dressed up in First Nations garb.” Dzsurdzsa goes on:

Canada’s mainstream legacy press is talking about federal immigration levels as if they’re on the wane when they’re still sky high. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced to a group of wide-eyed university students that immigration levels are being cut, but the actual numbers tell a different story altogether.

Canada imported 36.5% of its population in the last 10 years, which is irresponsibly insane. An article on Zerohedge confirms this fact with substantiation from one author, Tony Keller, who has written a short book on the subject, which focuses on the last five years of immigration levels:

In one year, Canada took in as many immigrants, relative to the size of its population, as the United States during the four years of the Joe Biden administration. And that Biden-era immigration surge was the biggest in U.S. history, topping the peak of arrivals at Ellis Island more than a century ago.

Relatedly, Elon Musk and Joe Rogan had the same discussion but in an American context recently. Canada’s current Liberal regime is doing the same thing and has been for decades. Canada suffers from the very same affliction: the propensity of Leftist politicians to import masses of foreigners into the country for the sake of replacing the native white population and expanding a slavish voting block.

In other news, a military base in the province of New Brunswick only serves Halal chicken. There are other items to be had of course, but all the chicken served in the mess hall is 100% “Halal certified”. It may seem trivial, but it is not. An anonymous source informed Juno News that this was indeed the case. Nick Drescher Brown, an official at National Defence, offered this explanation: “Canadian Forces Base Gagetown is the only confirmed base that offers 100% Halal chicken in its mess hall at this time,” he said. “The CAF are committed to providing its members with a variety of nutritious food options, including those which accommodate dietary restrictions whenever possible.” Halal slaughter practices are brutal, throat slitting affairs where animals are treated like lousy beasts; this constitutes another step in Muslim cultural ascendancy and should be opposed at every turn.

Canada is a trading nation that depends on exports for its wealth. Our largest and most important trading partner, the United States, is angry with us once again. President Donald Trump was incensed by an advertising campaign launched by the government of Ontario to appeal to Americans. The advertisement featured Ronald Reagan talking about tariffs and free trade. It effectively sabotaged talks between Canadian and American officials who ought to be hammering out a new trade deal between the two countries.

Tiff Macklem, the Governor of the Bank of Canada, said that a recession is a possibility and could already be underway in the country. Moreover, a recently published Bank of Canada Monetary Policy Report stated that Canada’s standard of living is in decline: “Our standard of living as a country, as Canadians, is going to be lower.”

At the time of this writing, Prime Minister Mark Carney’s federal ministry is set to deliver an eagerly anticipated budget for the first time in what seems like an age. It is, in fact, the first budget of his tenure and it is months overdue. Justin Trudeau’s reckless fiscal ways doubled Canada’s national debt in ten years and as it stands there is much to be worried about as debt, deficits, and the cost of living continues to mount. The budget earmarked $140 million to expedite the process for refugees, asylum seekers, and temporary foreign workers (TFWs) to become permanent residents, which will continue the deluge of foreigners in the country. According to Juno News, fiscal restraint is off the table:

The Liberal government has finally tabled its budget, projecting a national deficit of $78.3 billion this year, fueled by a massive $38 billion increase in spending to a total of $581 billion. Outside of the pandemic era, Carney’s budget deficit is the largest in Canadian history.

It is laughable when the Left howls with shrill moralizing fury at the prospect of systemic racism when there’s none to be had. The reality is that the only systemic prejudice that exists in most Canadian institutions is anti-white bias. A perfect example is Canada’s state broadcaster the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). According to right-of-centre news website, The Hub, in 2024-2025, the CBC went over and above its “equity representation” hiring targets. In the last fiscal year, 84% of all new hires were “Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, and racialized people”. As the article points out, the goal for the year was to have 65% of new employees reflect those three lofty categories; the state broadcaster exceeded that goal by 19 percentage points.

Chinese influence in Canada is so pervasive that Beijing has essentially taken over the country. According to American intelligence sources, Canada has been “overrun” by Chinese infiltrators that pull the strings of the elite. China has gone from “elite capture” to “nation capture.” Unfortunately, Prime Minister Mark Carney has picked up where Pierre and Justin Trudeau left off.

The foregoing was by no means comprehensive but offers a glance at the state of an ailing country. Things could be worse, though, the Blue Jays could have lost the World Series to those pesky Los Angeles Dodgers. Oh wait, that did happen.
