That was an overall great podcast, but why does he keep praising Ray Bradbury? Bradbury is a journeyman prose stylist popularized by English teachers because he was woke and left on race before everybody was. Name one good tale by him. He is cloyingly sentimental in his best stories, antiwhite in his worst. For instance the Martian chronicles is an allegory against white colonialism. In one story Way in the Middle of the Air all the blacks are departing from earth to mars to escape white tyranny. Whites don’t want them to go and try to convince them to stay. A black boy calls out the white man, identifying him as a klansman who torments blacks at night. This is why whites don’t want blacks to leave; we will have no one to terrorize at night!
Great SF stylists are Clark Ashton Smith(incomparable), Jack Vance(named as an influence on herbert; read The Last Castle as a nice self contained exemplar), AE van Vogt in Slan(about the jq).
Oh no, please don’t go! Lol
I didn’t know that about Bradbury. I remember his short story The Pedestrian, where police arrest a man for “walking, just walking!”. Everyone is indoors watching TVs the size of entire walls.
Enter 2020 and this literally happened to me. I was out walking during COVID a police stopped me and harassed me for no reason (now I know how blacks feel! Haha!) and said to me “People shouldn’t be in other places they’re not supposed to be”, and while I wasn’t arrested it was more or less at their discretion and they even had a joking good cop- bad cop conversation about whether to arrest me or not.
I really don’t like the police. And the entire time I was thinking of The Pedestrian and how it has basically come true. A good prediction for what, 1955 or so?
Everyone knows Fahrenheit 451 too which is also good. And another one where they do a travel in time safari and trample on a mosquito which destroys the timeline. (That might be Asimov or some one else, to be fair I can’t remember).
But that is some radioactive bad take from Beadbury. Who will Whites terrorise indeed. That’s utterly wack. That’s actually psychotic.
Fahrenheit 451 is not a very accurate prediction in my eyes. It assumes the authorities will have to burn books to keep them from being read. In our reality, information is the most readily available it has ever been and the majority just don’t access it because of laziness, stupidity, distraction. That’s much closer to Brave New World.
For Trevor Lynch,
Your Classics of Right Wing Cinema is the best movie review book you’ve written since the first one. A totally unexpected excellent read for me was your review of “The Searchers”. This is my personal favourite review your’ve made. In fact, you inspired me to buy the book that the movie is based on, by Alan Le May. I must say it is a classic, an incredible novel. Few novels I have read portray the differences between Whites and Indians as good as this books, with great literary skill. Thanks for your review, Mr. Lynch. You continue to be an inspiration with your movie reviews!
My only question is: Did Amos in the novel actually fall to a squaw’s bullet?
Thank you. I am planning out volume six.
Can your loyal readers expect in 2024 the following books?
NANR Volume 3
The (much anticipated) Great Replacement?
No, neither of those will be ready this year. I have a backlog of projects to finish before then.
Good discussion, I hope the term antifa’remen sticks.
As it’s already been superlative, I am very much looking forward to any future Frank Herbert coverage on C-C regardless of what future cultural effluent DV expels with the Dune branding. The upside of the responses to these movies and the reappraisal of the books and prior related media is that they’re a wonderful Rorschach test.
FYI the link on this page is currently pointing to the previous podcast and not to the CCR-Dune-Part-2-Mar-9-2024 file.
And please excuse the additional spergery (not enough RAM to be a mentat) but regarding Yueh’s ethnicity, Herbert-sanctioned artist John Schoenherr did depict him as asian so make of that what you will.
I very much enjoyed the discussion. It was rich with thoughtful points. I dislike podcasts for the time they take, but I’m tempted to “tune in next time”.
I skipped past the part about the film and started listening at about 49:00. These three voices joined in a graceful discussion of great depth and range, bringing all the issues together. I listen to my favorite podcasts and AMAs to drift off to sleep at night, then many times again–not because they’re boring; quite the contrary–but because they’re soothing. There’s something optimistic about driving toward a conclusion. I’m a huge fan of AmRen and J. Taylor, but his videos are often very disturbing: on the order of “There’s someone breaking into your house right now!” I listen to them in the light of day.
Everyone’s voice here is clear and pleasing; all are extraordinarily articulate and offer incisive analyses. This was the most sense I’ve heard from anyone about the Palestine/Israel issue to date.
What a great team!
