Another Civil War? Don’t Get Your Hopes Up

Jim Goad

Michigan Militia members, who will presumably be in the front lines of whatever civil war the US ends up having.

1,149 words

A friend from Oklahoma recently texted me:

How close are we from civil war anyway?

My reply came suddenly and effortlessly, almost as if a higher power had seized my typing fingers:

I don’t think Americans have their shit together enough to even pull off a civil war.

My friend agreed, and we moved on to cheerier topics.

But many of the carcass-pecking buzzards in the professional pundit class are not only certain that another Civil War is right around the corner, they’re so perceptive that they know that white people will be to blame for it! And “racism”! And “right-wing white men who worry about changing demographics, stagnating wages, and how the shift to a multi-racial and multi-ethnic America will affect them.”

“Is Civil War Ahead?” The New Yorker recently asked. “Is America heading to civil war or secession?” CNN wondered aloud. Two books released in January — How Civil Wars Start: And How to Stop Them and The Next Civil War: Dispatches From The American Future — seem assured that American Civil War II lurks right around the corner.

In Toronto’s Globe and Mail, Thomas Homer-Dixon wrote:

By 2025, American democracy could collapse, causing extreme domestic political instability, including widespread civil violence. By 2030, if not sooner, the country could be governed by a right-wing dictatorship.

Actually, a Right-wing dictatorship would provide far more stability than another Civil War. But so would a Left-wing dictatorship. But from sea to shining sea, I don’t think America has enough stability left to pull off another Civil War. It barely has enough energy left to fall apart gracefully.

In 2020, Business Insider published a poll claiming a majority of Americans felt that the US was already in the throes of a “cold” civil war. Last year, a University of Virginia Center for Politics poll found that most people who voted for Donald Trump in 2020 wanted their state to secede from the Union after Trump was not declared the winner. The same poll found that two-fifths of Biden voters said it may be “time to split the country.” In February 2021, a Zogby poll found that more Americans believe a future civil war is likely than don’t. In December 2021, Harvard’s Kennedy School released a poll that found that a third of Americans under 30 expected “a civil war” within their lifetimes.

I think they’re all being way too optimistic. I’m so pessimistic, I feel that even a civil war is beyond our capabilities.

I believe America is doomed as a nation — so doomed, it won’t even be able to pull off another civil war. To have a functional and ripping good civil war, you need to have only two sides, each so devoted to their cause that they’re willing to die for it. But demographically, geographically, and ideologically, the US is far too complex to split into two easily discernible “sides.” Both individually and collectively, latter-day Americans have proved to be too dumb and lazy to devote much attention and discipline to the rigors of a full-blown domestic ground war. They can’t even handle losing their wireless connection for a half-hour.

I believe we are broken as a country — but there’s a crucial difference between breaking into two pieces and shattering into a thousand. Two pieces would signify another Civil War; a thousand pieces would mean a total collapse.

You can buy Jim Goad’s The Redneck Manifesto here.

Our last Civil War was so much easier to define — North vs. South, with a neatly drawn Mason-Dixon Line. Many seem to think that if another Civil War were to erupt, it’d be Red vs. Blue states.

Oh, if America’s social situation were only that retardedly simple.

Even the Red and Blue states are split between their urban and rural factions.

White Americans are split between the Goodwhites and Badwhites.

And then there are whites versus everyone else . . . including in volatile places such as the military.

Coasts versus Flyover Country.

Upper and lower classes united against everyone in the middle.

English-speaking versus Spanish-speaking.

Generation against generation.

Native-born versus immigrant — and “indigenous” against both.

In a world where even feminists and trannies can’t get along, how do you expect to rope us all off into only two groups?

If a house divided against itself cannot stand, then a cheap motel divided against itself doesn’t stand a chance in hell.

The population is sufficiently multicultural to prevent any large-scale show of unity against the government. Most of the proles’ energies will be drained merely through screaming at one another. Color me paranoid, but I suspect this may have been multiculturalism’s endgame from the get-go.

There’s no middle anymore. But that doesn’t mean there are only two sides. There are a thousand sides, but no middle. If there is to be a civil war, it will be an intersectional civil war, with every possible side at battle with every other side. The only impartial observer will be the government.

Even the much ballyhooed but essentially fangless white-supremacist militias that we’re told are cocked and locked and perched to overtake the federal government lack a crucial advantage that the Rebel soldiers had when fighting the Yankees: They had the entire weight of the Southern legal and professional classes behind them.

Perhaps average Americans get so wrapped up in what the Second Amendment supposedly guarantees them that they’ve forgotten that it doesn’t allow them to have nukes or F-15s in the same way that the First Amendment doesn’t afford them the federal government’s massive surveillance capabilities.

I suspect that what’s coming is less of a coup or an attempted insurgency than simply a long and depressing spate of ethnic, ideological, and regional brushfires where non-governmental agents slaughter one another while the feds film everything and then perform cleanup.

So it won’t be a civil war; it’ll be an ongoing war between civilians, with the government taking notes.

Have you tried getting a package delivered through the US Postal Service on time recently? Have you tried calling any kind of professional office during working hours without getting a recording telling you to call back during working hours? Have you noticed that over the past couple of years, everything has unspooled and America seems to have sunk from a First World country to a Third World country without even pausing to wink at the Second World? When they told us we’d be transitioning to a service economy, no one warned us that all the servants would be this dumb, fat, and lazy.

So if you can’t even find a fast-food worker to deliver your order without a mistake, don’t expect any of these dim bulbs to make it through an hour of Basic Training without going AWOL.

I sincerely try not to think about how deeply fucked this country is, but every day this country does something to remind me.

There will be more chaos. More decay. More murder. More division. More despair. But nothing so organized that it’d deserve to be called a Civil War.

Insightful article, but depressing in its realism. With American Independence Day about a month away, does anyone else feel like there is nothing left worth celebrating about America? That rather we should use the day to wish its accelerated demise?

There is no escape from the collapse. USA will be like Brasil in two decades, maybe less. You eventually learn how to stay alive and live in a country like that.  If you have to stay in the cities: you move to a “good neighbourhood” with cameras all around, and private security guards around, you avoid the streets after the sun goes down, you carry (and have ready at home) a weapon even when its against law (i.e. in Brasil is impossible for a law abiding citizen to buy a weapon legally, but the mongrel delinquents even have ARs and AK’s), you learn to defend yourself barehanded (and stay in shape), and most important of all: you have no fear of them (niggers and mongrels thrive on fear, and if you show no fear they hesitate, and even flee….been there, done that).

White Nationalism is dead. It died in 1945. The enemy has already won. Every single political attempt of our cause since then has ended badly. No exceptions. The “cultural struggle” is just mental masturbation and pipe dreams, at best, or cowardice at worst. We are ghosts wandering in the battlefield, knowing that we are already dead but incapable of leaving the place. Today there is nothing we can do. Nothing.

While your first paragraph is accurate and probable, I rouse myself from my convalescence to condemn your second paragraph, which is nothing more than some kind of “presentist” fallacy. What was must have been determined to be; what is now is what will forever be. The historical record offers no support for this view. Men have been repeatedly surprised by the unfolding of events which sometimes come to seem to have been nearly inevitable in distant retrospect, but other times appear to have been  dependent upon a few highly contingent factors. The only predictions which can be made with any degree of confidence are those pertaining to the physical, biological and psychological constants of life, including:

        men need food and water
        men want women
young men are prideful, and some percentage will fight for respect
        people want basic physical security
people prefer higher to lower standards of living.

The situation whites face today, in the USA and increasingly across all of Europa, is totally unnatural as it violates core “life constants” in multiple ways. That which is unnatural (against nature) eventually dies out. The reason WN has been so ineffective (though I also question the extent to which there has been even a single, serious “political attempt of our cause”, at least in the USA since my adult life began in the late 1970s) has been analyzed by many people, including Greg Johnson here at CC. I believe it comes down to two features: first, whites have been mass-brainwashed (in no small part deriving from WW2 propaganda, followed by the war’s ‘moral’ aftermath) into thinking that racism is immoral (which is arguably correct, depending, of course, on precisely how “racism” is defined), and that any expression of white racial solidarity and concern for our collective (racial) wellbeing and even preservation is “racist” (which does not follow logically and is incorrect); and second, the vast bulk of whites, throughout the long decades of our ongoing and intensifying dispossession, have nevertheless been able to secure tolerable lives for themselves in terms of the “constants of life”. Whites as a whole suffer from interminable alienation (especially the wiser among us) and especially injustice, but few of us have been reduced to a physically intolerable state.

But the day is coming, and perhaps sooner than later (though it’s hard to say, as periods of intensifying white dispossessionism tend to breed backlashes, which then temper the rate of – though never [yet] actually reverse – dispossession, thereby forestalling real rage from becoming rebellion), when whites’ brainwashing will hit hard against unavoidable physical realities. How much decline in real living standards (including physical security) are whites willing to tolerate in order to cling to their racial delusions and faux- morality? One cannot presume that the indignities and trade-offs and sacrifices in wealth and safety that whites made in the past, in eras of greater white security and physical power and economic prosperity and confident control, will be tolerated forever – especially as the moral and political case for white racial activism that is being developed by sites like this one gets ever more widely disseminated.

The death of the West is being driven by moral sentiment and political apathy, and these can pivot rapidly and dramatically based on the steady accumulation of counter-sentiment. CC’s mission is, therefore, objectively, neither useless nor hopeless.

Your immediate options are any rural area outside the Deep South, which is littered with blacks, or the Deep North or Midwest away from the cities, but most of these cities in the Great Plains are unpopulated and homogenous.

As for long-term options for Europeans…I think the only person making any sense on this topic is ironically Millennial Woes. All European peoples should return to Europe and evict the nonwhite squatters back to wherever they came from.

I lived and traveled in Europe for 6 months, and while it certainty isn’t easy, it is something we can all adapt to like our ancestors did in the opposite direction. I no longer care that our traitorous ancestors left their homeland, learned a new tongue/custom, while shedding the old and even fought for multiculturalism in wars against their fatherlands.

I just don’t see America or any other former colonial outpost as the land of Europeans anymore just because we captured it for a few centuries. Holding onto foreign spoils at all costs reminds me of the stupidity of the German refusal to withdraw during Barbarossa when the battle was being lost because at some point blood and soil necessarily become decoupled. Yet nationalists foolishly choose the soil each time over blood despite one being recoverable and one being unrecoverable once it is lost.

Re: places to move to. That entirely depends on what you can afford and the existing job opportunities. Having grown up in a wealthy small town in Southern New England, I can tell you that it’s its own brand of fresh hell.

Small town America isn’t some bastion of conservative traditional values that has been preserved through geographic isolation from the cities. It’s just America writ small, the only difference being that its White population is above the nation’s average.

      What you can expect:

      – Kids and young adults who couldn’t be less interested in politics or just go along with the current thing.

      – Bizarre ethnic restaurants. While not necessarily a problem, we dropped the ball by not doing implicitly pro-White business practices by setting up continental European restaurants. I have to travel to New Hampshire to find a decent German restaurant.

      – Homeless people. Even in my ritzy ass hometown, I could spot grubby homeless Blacks at traffic stops with cardboard signs especially after the Summer of Floyd. Bear in mind my town was and still is 95% White.

      – Drug addicts. This is especially a problem in rural towns adjacent to rundown mill cities where the opioid epidemic hit them hard. My cousin died of an overdose a few years back, and despite all the court ordered rehabs and arrests, she still couldn’t kick her habit.

      – Local culture captured by insane libtards. This is a huge problem because these people are almost without fail involved in your town’s politics especially schoolteachers. Not only are they educating your kids and taking in massive amounts of taxes when some don’t even have the courtesy to live in the same town, they tend to be quiet active in extracurricular activities. Non-educators are no different. They sponsor functions that funnel all the proceeds to various liberal causes. If they’re religious, they attend churches with rainbow flags and BLM signs. These people are very comfortable being active in the community and shaping its character. Consequently, all commerce is controlled by them aside from independent contracting, construction and blue collar labor.

      – Conservative/Trump people generally uninterested in local history, identity is very consumptive. If they’re politically active, they’re almost always pathetic. Their ideas of activism include standing on the major thoroughfare outside the local Wal-Mart with “Fuck Biden” signs and trusting the plan on some up and coming Republican politician. Either way, they’re unorganized, isolated and generally have no interest in networking with likeminded people to better set up viable alternatives to libtards, let alone challenging their power.

      – Gay shit. Holy shit, is the LGBTQ+ stuff ubiquitous. Your local library or Target now has children’s books about rejecting the gender binary.

The only places you will avoid all of this is in places nearly bereft of people and businesses, and let me tell you, those places tend to be stricken with poverty. My grandpa’s hometown on the Canadian border of Upstate New York barely changed in a century, and 25% of working age men are below the poverty line.

It will be tribal warfare that destroys the industrial revolution and leads back to agrarian lifestyles with continuing tribal warfare over farmland.  High tech has already shown itself to be unsustainable in a diverse country, plus it depends on minerals and suxh from China, so its crashing. With its crash is ensuing tribal warfare that never ends.

I’m English and haven’t visited the US in over 20 years.  At the end of the 1980s, when I was in my late teens/early twenties,  the US was very attractive to ambitious young white Brits.  Now I can’t imagine any white European, particularly men, wanting to go there.  Why go to a country that will discriminate against you?

I’m not saying that the US lost anything when I decided to stay at home.  But from this side of the Atlantic, it’s hard to believe how the view of the US has changed so much and so quickly.

I hope that Jim, Greg and the white Americans whose ancestors built a great country manage to take it back, failing that manage to take enough of it back for their culture to endure.

I always roll my eyes when I hear references to the ‘Civil War 2.0’ as a great panacea because it almost exclusively comes from people who will not have to fight (women or draft-dodging Cuckservatives who were against Vietnam when it affected them, but have loved every war ever since since it no longer affects them). It is even more ridiculous considering that the right wing lost the Civil War, which only then descends into the ahistorical revisionist sophistry of DR3 (Dems R the Real Racists), rather than acknowledging the political realignment, which occurs every generation or two.

The first Civil War made zero practical sense to begin with because it ended up being fought between the separatist CSA South (which then made their multicultural region into a rump state far less white than the original USA) against the Unionist North, which itself became a de facto whiter ethno-state.

That is a strange observation, indeed, about the types of people whom you hear reference another civil war looming. I have never, ever heard a conservative woman — or any normal woman, for that matter — mention the possibility of another civil war. The only people I hear discussing it are journalists and the type of men who are always nattering on about their personal weapons stockpile and ammo supply.

Most of the proles’ energies will be drained merely through screaming at one another. Color me paranoid, but I suspect this may have been multiculturalism’s endgame from the get-go.”  Amazon/Whole Foods had leaked documents indicating that the more diverse the workforce the less likely they wanted to organize, hence the desire for more diversity.  This seems to be the inflection and breaking point of classical pro-union leftist stance to the modern woke leftist capitalism.

The only way I see another civil war happening is if the similar circumstances that preceded the first civil war happen, that being the nullification crises or if a state or states subvert federal law.  If Abbott really wanted to get serious on the border he could have DHS secretary Mayorkas arrested in a show of force for the federal government to get serious on controlling the border.  What Mayorkas is doing is the ultimate form of subversion, using the “muh federal law is the supreme law of the land” as the instrument of his subversion.  Of course, that will never happen what with all the hot stinky federal money and cheap Mexican labor both wealthy Republicans and Democrats just can’t get enough of.  Getting serious on the border was all Kabuki theater until Trump got elected.  All these wignats LARPing as revolutionaries aren’t going to accomplish anything and will rue they day try.  There could be a scenario where red states amass the political power to subvert federal subversion.  County deputy pulls over federal judge, breaks the taillight, fines the federal judge for the taillight he just broke.  County judge tells the federal judge Polk county is a county of rule of law and no one is above the law, not even a federal judge.  But again, hot stinky federal grant money…

I think Goad is right,  America will just slowly collapse in on itself as it becomes more fractured unless there’s some sort of unifying event which I find highly unlikely.  I don’t think even another 9/11-tier event would be uniting.  I was on an airplane recently and had an interesting conversation with the guy next to me.  He was saying that America is pretty much just a giant mall with no culture or community.  The protestant gods of America’s founding are no more, America’s god is mammon.  Kamala Harris saying, “I’m vice president” reminded me of Tyrion in Game of Thrones saying, “if you have to say you’re king, then you’re aren’t king.”  Eventually people in say Utah are just going to say, “fuck it” if the US Marshalls come in and try to force kindergarten Mormon kids to watch twerking trannies.  Even some of the US Marshalls may say, “fuck it” at that point, “I didn’t sign up for this shit!”

While things are not getting better, I don’t see need to panic.  America has been in decline but so has much of the west.  Our economic dominance seems likely to recede in the way many countries of the EU have.  But seriously, do you imagine we are going to need to turn to France, England, Italy or Hungary to save us, as if they are not suffering similar challenges.  Spain has had a much more serious problem with Basque separatists than the US currently faces.  But that situation and the Uighurs in China are worth following to understand what tactics work and fail.

Steve Sailer’s “Unicultural Edge” details some of the actual proof of government debates on whether globalism is apt to work.  I believe many in the Left are gambling that globalism around the world is inevitable to some degree, and the mission of the US is simply to do it better than everyone else.  But China and Russia are the mightiest holdouts, with China the greatest threat.  I firmly believe progress is to be made by appealing and converting centrists and swing voters, especially as they age and gain some Churchill-ian wisdom.  The women especially love to appear as sensitive do-gooders by championing leftist causes that haven’t hit their neighborhoods yet.  But when they start feeling the pain of their policy decisions themselves they will find a way to rationalize their flip to the other side in a flash.  So I encourage readers and scribes here to not see the left and the middle as eternally the enemy, but an opportunity to enlighten them on things the usual media outlets keep hidden.

Modern Militiaman A Journal of the Modern Resistance Movement
    Issue #6, July 4, 1997

    http://pastorlindstedt.org/lindstedt/mmmisu6.html#mm62

There Ain’t No Such Thing As A “Constitutional Militia”

The Congress shall have the power to . . . To provide for organizing arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress; — Article 1, Section 8, Constitution of the United States

This quote from the Constitution should conclusively prove the foolishness of those militiamen who want to claim they are part of a “constitutional militia.” Ask them for the piece of paper which shows that they have been organized, armed or under a code of military discipline directly derived from Congressional authority and they will draw a blank. If they claim to be a state militia, then ask them where is their appointment from the state governor giving them an authority to train their enlisted militiamen. Again a blank. Which reflects reality. None of these so- called “constitutional militia” are any such thing. All they do is claim to be something they really are not.
    . . . .

SO WHY, in the founding of the militia movement over three years ago, did its founding leadership insist that they were “Constitutional militias” when there is no such thing, as such extra-legal private paramilitary organizations are by a reading of the Constitution prohibited? I shall attribute it to in large part moral cowardice, with a good deal of stupidity thrown in. They refused to face reality, which demanded that certain unpleasant facts be faced, met and matched. Their unwillingness to think explains their stupidity. Rather than speak plainly and warn the common people about the consequences of shielding criminal government, such as annihilation and the collapse of civilization following total civil warfare, altogether too many of us “militia generals” have preferred to sugar-coat the truth because we were scared to look like ‘terrorists’ or ‘extremists.’ Few, if any of us, have faced the fact that getting our rights back entails the absolute extermination of evil men who infringed on those rights motivated by nothing more than their personal greed for wealth and power. Since these evil men will not surrender themselves to justice voluntarily, it will become necessary to use force to bring them to justice. The use of force entails violence. Violence implies killing. Patrick Henry’s most famous quote should be updated to say: “Give me my liberty or I’ll give you your death.” And let this message stand for those who would protect criminals from justice. The stupidity that accompanies moral cowardice can be best diagnosed as selective moral blindness brought about by fear. Listen up, ‘Constitutional Militia’ generals: Supposedly these militias were founded in opposition to federal government abuses. With the restrictive gun laws passed in defiance of the 2d Amendment willfully passed by Congress, it passes belief to expect this very same rabble of politicians to arm popular militia organizations with modern weaponry sufficient to challenge government rule. Even the Congressional mattoid majority can figure out that these militia organizations have a different ideology other than politics as usual, and thus will not train them on how to use military force in opposition to their rule. As far as Congressional discipline is concerned, all that has come out of the halls of power has been “anti-terrorism” legislation which nervously targets the means for potential popular insurrection.
    . . .

On July 4, 1997 two Missouri Highway Patrolmen rolled up some Missouri militias and started criminal proceedings against others known as The Missouri Twenty who were the common-law court feebs. My two Southwestern Missouri militias were on the outs with the Kansas City 51st FiBbI militia. They called us Klansmen and Christian Identity private gangs and I ridiculed them for being suburban whiggers buying $150 Russian SKSs for Troost Avenue KC negroes. The Timothy McVeigh trial was ramping up so I told what was left to go back underground.

There are probably 4-5 times as many private survival groups in the Ozarks as there were back in the early 1990s. Stay away with any ZOGbot retards calling theysselfs “militia”.

Soon ZOG shall fall apart along with over 90% of the ZOGlings. The form of government which shall prevail is local theocratic military dictatorships — The Ten Thousand Warlords.

    Hail Victory !!!

“Civil War” does not have to be an actual event involving guys and gals in camo fatigues running around the woods with ARs.

Civil War a myth  in the sense that Georges Sorel promoted the General Strike. It is a metapolitical organizing principle which unites a broad front of dissidents and and provides a way for them to disengage psychologically from the Regime.

I’d relate it to the current popularity of the term “Secession.”  Secession could be the formation of a White ethnostate in North America. Or a division of the country between Red and Blue states. Or conservative counties forming new states but within the overarch of the Union and ignoring federal directives on things like gun control. Or individuals disengaging from the system and forming their own Fifth Generation info ops networks for communications and crypto-currency.

One objective is to isolate the Regime.  If a sizable sector of people in the Homeland do not cooperate with the Beltway Class, the Regime will collapse in the first serious crisis (like an economic crash or lost war). And then the dissidents can pick up the pieces.

[The Confederacy] had the entire weight of the Southern legal and professional classes behind them.

The Dissident Right needs to concentrate agitprop efforts towards these classes today in the 21st century. Win them over and they provide the ideological cover and (especially) financial support for a mass nationalist movement. Divide the elites.

Consider the recent purchase of a social media corporation by an oligarch who is promising online Free Speech. Then think in terms of two, three many Elon Musks. It’s electrifying.

Save your memes, the ethnostate shall rise again!

I call BS on this entire article. Populism is on the rise. Biden has been such a disaster that he has lost the Spanish vote for  Democrats. Conservatives have successfully labeled liberals as groomers and they are too involved to realize their protrans stances only makes them look more pedo. Transvestites dancing at high schools? Come on this is madness, Americans don’t want this. We don’t want $6 gas and food shortages, we dont want criminals released after violent crimes. We don’t want bad DA’s who are more compassionate towards the criminals then the victims. The majority will not stand for liberal madness, we will become populist and populism will rule the global economies.

From 1936 to 1939 Spain managed to have a ripping-good civil war in which both sides consisted of factions temporarily united but ultimately opposed. Two of these actually fought each other, e.g. the POUM and the Republican government (Homage to Catalonia, Orwell). On the Nationalist side there were Catholic Conservatives, Falangists, Carlists et al. All reflecting deeply conflicting views and willing to fight each other if it came to that. That problem was partly addressed by Franco when he forced the unification of the Falange and the Carlists.
If Nationalist Spain could unite to deny Stalinist Russia ownership of their land and a toehold in Western Europe (adjacent to Gibraltar), the American right can unite for our continuing existence as a nation and people. It’s possible.
