A critical piece of financial protection advice was mentioned in this episode: umbrella insurance policies. These plans are actually quite inexpensive, only a couple hundred dollars per year for $1 million in coverage. What’s more, by holding an umbrella policy you may be entitled to the legal resources of your insurance company, or at least coverage of your legal fees, if someone sues. If the Charlottesville defendants had had umbrella policies, the outcome, if it went to trial at all, might have been very different. If you’re going to engage in high-risk political activism, buy an umbrella policy.
Agreed.
I’d like to see some articles and/or podcasts on legal insurance policies for activist movements.
