Great discussion on addiction and the idea that the stigma and humiliation of being “that guy” is one of the worst aspects of it. It rang very true.
Re The Sopranos, I’ll just say: I watched it at the time it was originally shown and I loved it. It was easily my favorite show at the time. I re-watched it recently and I literally hated every single character on the show. Just a bunch of psychotic, low IQ, asshole bullies who are violent with anyone who is weaker or lower than them on the food chain. A great ending would have been Tony and Christopher dying in that car wreck. And yes, Steven Van Zandt’s acting was laughably hammy. Plus his character, like Paulie’s, was just a mindless kiss-ass. Damn, my views on this thing have changed.
Anyway, enjoyed the show, guys!
K Nick, what’s your story brother? You grew up in the U.S. went to high school, college…right? You speak and write English (I assume) perfectly, and without an accent…whatta hey?
Sorry to disappoint, but nope, haven’t even been to an English-speaking country.
Really enjoying this podcast 30 mins. Gotta say fellas, I am weak for Susan Sarandon, love the eyes, body, the accent, the whole nine. Her role in Bull Durham is the magnum opus of her career.
By the by, my 70s crush was the late Marcia Strassman. Best stems on the tube back them. Mr. Kotter was a very lucky guy.
As far as Sopranos, I adored the consigliere Silvio. Totally ruthless looking and devoted to Tony. Frank Vincent RIP was his usual magnificent self as Philly Leotardo.
Frankie Valli’s role as Rusty Milio (?) was decent for a singer. The best ever singer thespians have to be Cher, and ol Blue Eyes in From Here To Eternity
