This was great. The song from Ryan’s Daughter is pretty iconic, “it was heaven, just to be with you.” Also, Passage to India is a good Lean film, although people might assume it was merchant ivory.
I’m watching Howls moving Castle in anticipation of the Taylor anime podcast.
Dr Johnson on Critical Race Theory: (1:25:06ff)
The Left can’t win on its own. They only win because of the acquiescence, the cowardice, the weakness of the Right. But it’s a threat to everything. It’s a threat basically because it paralyzes the forces that preserve civilization.
I’ve said this before, I’m fond of it, sue me if you’ve heard it too many times. You wanna know how to destroy a country? Just make it against the rules to say no to Black people and they will do all the rest. You can just sit back and watch everything go to hell.
You can’t arrest them, you can’t say no to their dumb ideas, you have to walk on eggshells around them, you can’t get anything done, civilization will grind to a standstill.
And that’s what’s going on now. Critical race theory is basically paralyzing the ability of White societies to prevent themselves from being destroyed by the sort of chthonic churning madness of the black and brown underclasses that we’ve invited in…and it dissolves everything into chaos, unless we resist it.
Prejudice and discrimination are the mechanisms that protect the nation.
Morgoth: “miserable city in the north-east called Middlesbrough” : Oy! That’s my home town!
Middlesbrough was the first major British town to be bombed during WWII. And get this : when I was a lad, my dad had to call the police to remove a German bomb we found in the attic! To be clear, it hadn’t come crashing through the roof and no-one had noticed the gaping hole since the war. A previous owner must have found the bomb in local wasteland and thought it would make a cool memento. It would have been “funny” if the bomb had gone off and I’d been officially recorded as the last fatality of the war.
“Get Carter” – classic movie. Being a local boy, I knew the Blackhall Colliery conveyor in which Michael Caine disposes of Ian Hendry at the film’s climax. I only remember passing it at night-time when it was wet and cold and The North Sea looked particularly lethal.
I was saddened when the conveyor was dismantled as it did have a certain “satanic” glamour – it was so brutally functional, with zero concessions to ideas of beauty, that it perfectly encapsulated The Industrial Revolution.
Dear Greg Johnson,
I want to say thank you for bringing back Counter-Currents Radio (CCR). You interview interesting people and have a lot of material to discuss with your guest.
Since the holiday of Halloween is upon us here are eight recent horror movies your friend Trevor Lynch can review for the webzine. They are: Trick R. Treat (2007), It Follows (2014), The Shallows (2016), Mandy (2018), Hereditary (2018), Pet Cemetery (2019), Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (2019), and Crawl (2019).
It Follows is a really interesting and deep film, even if it’s not scary in the traditional sense. Lots of wn content there.
Hey, I would request an interview with Ryan Dawson. Does Greg know him?
Morgoth sounds like the voice of the white man itself, speaking to us from across the centuries.
Morgoth could have made a better stand for Yorkshire bands, specifically Sheffield. Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, Human League, Cabaret Voltaire. And don’t forget Mick Ronson from Hull.
But he was spot-on about David Lean.
